Correction: SRLC changed its name after scheduling the event to RLC.
--------
Bill Smith, Editor: I will not be at Republican Leadership Conference (RLC) 2011 this year [Formerly aka SRLC]. I will be heading north to be with conservative activists covering RightOnline 2011 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In addition, I've partnered to exchange event info with fellow friends and activists like Col O.P. Ditch of Vets For Palin (Facebook) who will be covering RLC 2011 in New Orleans.
Two Republican leaders in Arkansas headed for RLC 2011 took time to share their reasons for going to RLC 2011. Rita Hamilton, Arkansas Republican Party National Committee Woman, said, "I like meeting up and networking with other Republicans and with friends like Sue Everhart, Chairman of the Georgia Republican Party." Edna Fusco, President of the Twin Lakes Republican Women's club in Baxter County, Arkansas, will be making the trip with her daughter Danielle Fusco. Both consider themselves "political junkies." Edna said, " I like to be able to have an up close and personal view of each candidates - "one-on-one." She also likes to "gather with conservative friends in groups where they share common ideas and beliefs."
Liberty Today: The Republican Leadership Conference is this week and will include nine presidential candidates and three governors. In some ways, it will represent the kick-off of the presidential campaign, according to Charlie Davis, the conference president.
Davis addressed the media at the Baton Rouge Press Club at noon on Monday. The Republican Leadership Conference will be held from Thursday, June 16 through Saturday, June 18, 2011, at the Riverside Hilton in New Orleans.
Davis said the nine presidential candidates — or potential candidates — who have confirmed that they will speak are:
• Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich of Georgia
• Former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson
• Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman
• Herman Cain, ex-CEO of Godfather’s Pizza
• Former Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota
• Congressman Ron Paul of Texas
• Congresswoman Michele Bachmann of Minnesota
• Former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania
• Former Louisiana Gov. Buddy Roemer
Also scheduled to speak are Govs. Rick Perry of Texas, Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, and Haley Barbour of Mississippi. Perry is also being promoted as a presidential candidate.
Former Gov. Mike Huckabee, who recently took himself out of the presidential running, will speak. Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina, who helped engineer the election of several staunch conservatives to the U. S. Senate, was recently added to the program.
Delegates are expected from 38 states and a Presidential Straw Poll will draw a lot of interest.
The event will be held at the New Orleans Hilton, which is located on the Riverwalk. . . . Davis said the food, music, and many tourist attractions of New Orleans have helped boost attendance and make the Crescent City a major draw for both candidates and attendees. . . .
