The U.S. government spends more money on war-making equipment (and defense) than all other governments in the world put together). Surely that is enough. Can't be serious about spending cuts while policing the world and nation building.
Avery, avery, avery. don't you know that the same people that gave us the debt and deficit and socialized medicine, suddenly become infallible when making decisions regarding defense and foreign policy?
The U.S. military is used today like the private security force for many profiiteering companies. Fear is used to gain the assent of the middle class and poor. At least the British East India Company paid for their own security. Peter Singer wrote a great book called "Corporate Warriors: The Rise of the Privatized Military Industry" that contains an excellent history of military financing.
Smedley butler's "war is a racket" is a must read
"I don't agree with Ron Paul on foreign policy and his disengagement around the world, but we're going to end up where he is because we don't have any money," DeMint told The Daily Caller." http://www.cnn.com/2012/01/13/opinion/welch-paul-libertarianism/
So is DeMint saying the government should keep policing the world even though it can't afford to? Is that ridiculous?
Military Industrial Complex...duh
