(Baxter County, AR) The Ozark Tea Party, founded in 2009, bases itself in traditional conservative principles. Simply put, we believe in freedom. We believe that to achieve our nation’s potential we must unleash the American entrepreneur by limiting government power and spending. In 2010 we fought for and elected political leaders who we believed shared these same basic principles. Unfortunately, self proclaimed conservative Congressman Rick Crawford proved us wrong with his proposal of the Shared Responsibility in Preserving America’s Future Act.

1st Ozark Tea Party, April 2009
The Ozark Tea Party strongly opposes Congressman Crawford’s plan to increase taxes on America’s job creators. The Wall Street Journal reminds us that “the top 1% of earners in America pay about 40% of the nation’s federal income taxes.” This leaves us with one question for Congressman Crawford, how much should they pay?
Our country is in the greatest economic turmoil since the great depression. Our economy is struggling and our people need jobs. Instead of punishing job creators, we must lower taxes and regulations on them. We are here to remind Congressman Crawford the same thing that Ronald Reagan told the American people so long ago, government isn’t the answer to our problems, government is the problem!
The Ozark Tea Party strongly urges Congressman Rick Crawford to withdraw his support for this progressive and job killing tax increase. Rather, he should work to shrink the size of our unsustainable federal government bureaucracy.
We applaud Congressman Crawford’s efforts to put a balanced budget amendment in the United States Constitution. However, this new plan goes against our principles of supporting American capitalism, lower taxes and smaller government.
We will continue to fight the liberal idea of larger government, less freedom and more bureaucracy no matter what party name it hides behind.

Proud of the Ozark T'Party!!! Nice post Bill!
I hate to say this but he is making enemies in his own district. He needs to re-cant or he may be coming home to find a real job.

"A balanced-budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution , is exactly what is needed. As congress is in a gridlock over how to handle the national debt and with spending - out of control -, it is past time that something be done to fix it.
Those of you who closely follow the current news events are aware that several states are working on legislation to call a
constitutional convention to do just that. However many are afraid that would open up the opportunity to make other changes to our U.S. Constitution.
I personally think that Congressman Rick Crawford's bill should be on the table as one of the proposed solutions.
Perhaps we should give it a chance by supporting his effort to do something.
Thank you,
Bob Cohee

Bob, A few words, I agree with a Balanced Budget Amendment but one with fixed spending limitations . I do not agree with securing a BBA as a trade off for a Millionaire's tax. Doing so is not morally right even if it could be passed. It is covetousness and envy of the rich.
Congressman Crawford is also a member of the Republican Study Committee (RSC) which has offered proper responses of "Cut, Cap and Balance." All three things are needed and their new proposed 2013 budget (not the Ryan Budget) would eliminate deficit spending in just 5 years. I posted on this today.
We will not resolve the debt and spending issues using class warfare or political gamesmanship. It can only be done by a responsible conservative approach such as one promoted by the RSC. Of course, I personally would advocate even more cutting of Government by eliminating numerous agencies but even then these people would need access to real jobs in a growing economy.
In 2010, a new beginning was made in electing the more street savvy conservatives to office. However, we will need to elect a significant number of responsible conservatives in both the House and Senate in 2012 election if we are to confront and fix the damage. Giving the Dems another means of confiscating wealth as a trade off for a Balanced Budget Amendment is not a solution.
In truth, when my house is burning down, I am not so interested in food not being in the freezer. Our top concern is the direction of the WH and the various administrative agencies. They seem will to be set on destroying the Republic and eliminating individual liberty and freedom.
The bull's-eye is directly on the middle class. All countries even totalitarian (Communist, dictatorships, theocracies) governed countries have extreme wealthy people (maybe via confiscation of other people's wealth by those in power). They also have extremely large numbers of low income people and almost no middle class. Only where freedom reigns do countries have a vibrant - large middle-class. America is the bastion for people achieving and living in the middle class. Unfortunately, those in power often get tired of having to answer to an educated middle class and prefer for them to be silenced.
Regards,
Bill
Thank you Bill,
I really have no disagreement with what you are saying. However, Rick's approach will certainly get more attention on the matter.
Our governments spending is totally out-of-control.
I agree, our country is in big trouble and a lot more conservatives need to be elected to office in November
