One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics
is that you end up being governed by your inferiors. -- Plato

Investor's Business Daily Editorial: First Amendment: Just over a year ago, Obama assured Arab Spring Muslims he'd help protect their "universal right" of "free speech." Today he's trying to gag American filmmakers who offend them.
In a May 2011 State Department speech in which he boasted of planting the seeds of the Arab Spring that started in Tunis and spread to Cairo and Benghazi and beyond, Obama said he would use "all of the diplomatic, economic and strategic tools at our disposal" to help supposed Muslim reformists transition to democracies that guarantee "free speech, the freedom of peaceful assembly, the freedom of religion, equality for men and women under the rule of law, and the right to choose your own leaders — whether you live in Baghdad or Damascus, Sanaa or Tehran."
Now that Obama's heroic Muslim "freedom fighters" have used their new found freedoms to storm our embassies, burn our flags and slaughter our diplomats allegedly to protest an offensive expression of free speech in this country, what does our president do?
Frog-march the offending Muhammad filmmaker and demand Google censor his movie trailers — all to protect the delicate feelings of the foreign Muslim troglodytes who have forsaken him.
With the feds now going after filmmakers who offend Islam, it's clear we have surrendered to unwritten speech codes imposed by Islamofascists.
Other examples of post-9/11 censorship and suppression include an incident two years ago, when Obama asked Defense Secretary Robert Gates to call fringe Florida pastor Terry Jones to plead with him not to burn a copy of the Quran. Even normally rock-ribbed Gen. David Petraeus condemned "any disrespect to the Muslim faith," effectively apologizing for the exercise of First Amendment rights, offensive or not.
Last year, a jury in heavily Muslim Dearborn, Mich., blocked Jones from peacefully demonstrating outside a mosque. Also last year, more than 700 newspapers refused to run a "Non Sequitur" cartoon drawn by syndicated artist Wiley Miller simply because it contained the phrase "Where's Muhammad?"
In 2010, after receiving death threats from Muslims, the creators of the animated comedy show "South Park" refused to air an image of Muhammad in a bear suit even though the episode mocked Jesus and other religious figures.
Following the South Park firestorm, a "Seattle Weekly" cartoonist suggested an "Everybody Draw Muhammad Day," but then quickly apologized and went into hiding after Muslims threatened her life, too.
In 2009, Yale University Press cut images of Muhammad from a book on the deadly Danish cartoon riots. It even removed an old illustration of Muhammad from Dante's "Inferno."
Another book publisher, Random House, ditched a romance novel about Muhammad's wife, "Jewel of Medina," citing the safety of the author, editor and other employees involved in the project.
Americans are being extorted by violence to shut up about a religion that promotes violence. We are being told that Muslims' First Amendment right to religion is more important than non-Muslims' right to speech. We are also being told, in effect, that offending Islamists is a worse form of terrorism than Islamists terrorizing us.
Eleven years after Muslims attacked our buildings and slaughtered 3,000 of our fellow citizens in the name of Islam, we are letting them attack our Bill of Rights in deference to Islam. What cowards we have become.
