Woodward: Obama "Not Correct" On Sequester . . .
The Truth: Obama Admin Came Up With Sequestration, Not House Republicans |
Monday night, President Obama declared, “[T]he sequester is not something I proposed, it’s something that Congress proposed. It will not happen.”
But Politico reported yesterday, “Bob Woodward says President Barack Obama got some of his facts wrong on sequester at Monday night’s debate. Woodward’s book ‘The Price of Politics’ has been the go-to fact check source for the president’s answer, in which he claimed the idea of using deep, automatic, across-the-board domestic and defense spending cuts to force Congress to address the nation’s burgeoning federal deficit originated from Congress, not from the White House. ‘What the president said is not correct,’ Woodward told POLITICO Tuesday. ‘He’s mistaken. And it’s refuted by the people who work for him.’ . . . Woodward reports in his book that White House Office of Management Director Jack Lew and Legislative Affairs Director Rob Nabors took the proposal for sequestration to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and then it was presented to congressional Republicans.”
So, the first part of Obama’s statement is clearly wrong. Why? President Obama should have his facts straight and not be playing politics and offering untruths to the public. Maybe he is just incompetent not lying. But the second part of his statement also raises questions. If Obama is determined that the sequester and accompanying huge defense cuts “will not happen,” he has yet to do anything to prevent this outcome. Both situation evidence, Obama is not and has not been presidential.
Back in July, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said, “Just as the next President will take the oath on inauguration day, we too take an oath as Senators. We have the responsibility to raise and support Armies and provide and maintain a Navy. If we let sequestration as currently written go forward and do not act we will have failed. And that’s why I am so disappointed with the President’s failure of leadership on this issue, and that of Senate Democrats. Both House and Senate Republicans have offered proposals to replace the savings from sequestration with more thoughtful and targeted spending cuts. Both of those proposals also either eliminated or reduced the sequester on non-defense programs. . . . It is simply outrageous that this President and Senate Democrats are missing in action on this issue.”
Agree completely with McConnell's final statement! Obama is AWOL - failing as President and thus Commander-in-Chief - and he remains in office without a reasonable excuse.
