Wrong Way Down On a One-Way-Street - Part 4
From the heart of the The Ozarks, the following letter to the editor is by aka "Buck Angler." Buck is a mainstream, voting, middle class, God-fearing citizen concerned about America. This letter is from his reflections titled: Wrong Way Down On a One-Way-Street. Buck will be sharing in the ARRA News Service more of his reflections via a series of open letters.
By Buck Angler: My continued personal observations!
WRONG WAY: "ObamaCare - you should care!"
Regarding Obama-care, you might consider a couple of unsettling situations involving Medicare. The first experience involved a close friend switching from his wife’s employment insurance to Medicare Part B. This was to have taken place the month after she retired. Apparently, the paper work had been completed and processed.
This individual had very few medical visits so he didn’t discover until about five months later that Part B had not been assigned to him when he began receiving denied medical bills. It wasn’t until six months later after contacting more than a dozen different representatives throughout that duration that the issue was straightened out. He figured out what was probably the glitch after about the fourth contact. Do you think they would listen to my friend’s reasoning or follow up on it….NO!
He actually talked to about three or four reps that really cared or did what they said they would do; the rest were either, indifferent, judgmental, or incompetent. One of them insinuated that my friend was a liar and another one hung up on him when he specifically called to talk to a supervisor. I think that an average 5th grader could have solved the problem if they had privy to Medicare’s documents on this person.
The second situation is still ongoing. It involves a claim that my wife and I first mailed in December 2011, and re-mailed twice more — January and early June 2012 by certified mail. Eventually, eight months after the first submission, a disposition on the claim was received. The claim was denied because supposedly it was past the time limit to file the claim. It certainly was by the time they processed it!!! Two of the three reps we talked with in the long process seemed somewhat helpful; the last one contradicted the previous reps and insinuated an appeal would also be denied because the health care provider was not listed as a Medicare provider.
The previous rep knew the situation and told us an appeal would likely be honored. Personally, my most critical health issue is from dealing with Medicare reps! I’m taking a short break to deal with the disillusionment and chaos before I attempt an appeal. Do you think that this might be a prelude to Obama-care? How long do you think a private insurance company would last with this kind of service? Unfortunately, you don’t have options if the Federal Government is sole dispenser of the health care decisions. Incidentally, “ObamaCare” will be managed by several thousand IRS agents—isn’t that reassuring! RESEARCH, RELATE, AND THINK
WRONG WAY: Oh! Woe is me!
I’m really strung out listening to Democrats, including Bill Clinton at the DNC convention, making the excuse that Obama’s four years in the White House are the toughest any president has faced since President Roosevelt and the Great Depression. If anyone had tough situations to deal with, it was President George W. Bush. No president since we became a nation had to face a more difficult task than responding to and dealing with the 911 attack on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon.
The crisis was complicated even more by the lack of cooperation by members of Congress and the U.N. regarding action against the terrorists who masterminded the attacks. Since the British burned the Capitol and the attack by Japan in 1941, what other president has had to deal with a "major attack" on the U.S. soil? The situation was so bad that you only saw an occasional jet stream in our sky for months. And, it put our economy in a tail-spin!
If the main-stream media scrutinized President Obama like they did President Bush, he probably would have thrown in the towel after his first two years in office. President Bush was isolated and persecuted ruthlessly by the liberal media. On top of these two points, he also had to deal with an all-Democrat Congress for his last two years in office. By the way; did that Congress get any of the media flack for the “Bush slumping economy?” I’m not rating President Bush. I'm just comparing his trials and tribulations to Obama’s. It’s like comparing confrontation with a hungry lion to confronting an angry house-cat.
Republicans in the national limelight face extreme criticism, distortions, half-truths by the liberal “main-stream” media who also withhold favorable news on events that support conservatism. For instance, I would stake my life on George Bush taking out Osama Bin Laden had the opportunity manifested itself. He would have loved to have called that “shot”! Maybe you didn’t like his politics but there is one thing that you can’t deny: George W. Bush is a patriot!
Do you think the mainstream media would dare make such an assertion public — not if it would give him equal or more favorable status than Obama or other liberal politicians! When I say mainstream “liberal media” whom am I specifically referencing? NBC and ABC and their affiliates lead the pack, with CNN and some other cable networks probably relatively close behind. Recently, CBS seems to have been showing some objectivity and fairness. I consider FOX NEWS to be leaning toward conservatism. But they are also more objective, present opposite points-of-view, and are comprehensive (not hiding news that would affect public opinion) in presenting important and critical news events. RESEARCH, RELATE, AND THINK
