Thankful Now
The below letter to the editor is by Robert "Bob" McDowell, Jr. He is a Professional Engineer and Geologist with over 50 years experience in creating drilling prospects, supervising drilling, well completion, production operation, and pipeline design for oil and gas including repair of problem wells. McDowell is a conservative and active in the Oklahoma Republican Assembly.
By Bob McDowell: We come to that time of year when the USA has historically paused to observe a day of thanksgiving for all the blessings bestowed on it and its people by GOD. The very first such day was observed by the pilgrims who, despite severe privations living in a harsh climate that caused the loss of about half their number, felt gratitude to GOD for allowing them to move to a land where they would be free to worship in their own way. Previously, they were persecuted in nations that were basically theocracies where the 'national church' ruled the land. Often the king, such as even now in England, was the titular head of the church, but then even he, or she, would be subservient to the Vatican in Rome.
This nation, by contrast, was founded by a group of truly, in my opinion, inspired men who possessed and practiced a deep faith in GOD. Yes the GOD of the ancient Jewish faith, since after all Christianity was originally deemed to be a sect of the Jewish church, and still uses the Tora as part of our holy scriptures calling it the "Old Testament".
Despite the unfortunate rise of atheistic followers of the Communist/Socialist world wide movement that have succeeded in gaining control of the national Democrat Party, a number of the so-called "Mainstream" Christian denominations and most of the government operated "public" school systems and making inroads even into the national Republican Party, we still have much to be thankful for.
We are still able to worship, or not worship, with the congregation of our choice. We are able to come and go pretty much as we please. Our stores are loaded with goods to be bought at our will and as our finances allow. We are free, if we have school age children, to take them out of the government schools and have them educated at home or in private schools. We, for the most part, can depend on our fire units to come to our place of need and police units to make a great effort to solve the crimes that might affect us.
Unfortunately, our people have very much turned away from GOD and, somewhat due to the mis-education occurring in the government schools, have several generations of citizens that have more interest in the less moral activities available. Our military is being weakened by a move referred to as "Political Correctness" to the point where the command staff seems to be less dedicated to the defense of the Nation than to changing the programs. All this serves to put the very survival of the USA as a "Representative Republic" at risk.
However, if we who are worshiping people will stand up and be counted, this decline can be slowed, stopped, and reversed. It is possible for this Nation to be returned to its former stature as one of the greatest in the history of the World. It won't be easy, but then nothing worthwhile ever is, and there are always 'nay-sayers' who talk, or even work, against our efforts.
We are, whether we like or admit it, are in a true 'world war' with the radical believers of Islam who live, and die, for the conquest of the World and the establishment of an Islamic World Order. This would lower all to the level of slaves, living in true poverty, or dying at the whim of the dictatorial leaders.
Incidentally, a recent story in the daily paper covered the beginning of a "Worship service for atheists" at one of the Unitarian churches in Tulsa. This action establishes atheism as a religion and may work to our benefit in the battle to keep crosses, stars of David, and the Ten Commandments displayed in public places. GOD will protect us if we confess our sins and return to service to and belief in him. GOD Bless America.
