Is President On The Side of America or Iran?

Today in Washington, D.C. - March 2, 2015
Tomorrow, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will address a joint session of Congress. Some Democrats including VP Biden have threatened to boycott our esteemed ally in the Middle East sending a signal, no matter how much they deny it, that they support the President efforts to appease the Iranians advancement of nuclear weapons.

In Feb., 2015, Wayne Allan Root noted his opinion in a lengthy article titled "Even if Obama Never Said ‘I Will Stand With Muslims,’ It’s Exactly What He Meant" the following: "Yes, Obama’s words are open to interpretation. He did not say “I will stand with the Muslims” verbatim. There was nuance.

"There was a second part to the statement. He couched his statement based on unfair prejudice and even internment. Obama did exactly what his mentor Saul Alinsky taught him to do – disguise your statements, distract the masses, camouflage your true intentions, hide your radical agenda. But at the root of Obama’s statement was the truth.

"I believe Obama’s actions make the true meaning of his words clear. Obama may not have said the exact words “I will stand with the Muslims,” but he sure meant them. Now we know what side he’s on. The real question is – just how far will he go?"

We we should be concerned. Why should the Obama administration support Iran opportunity and access to develop nuclear weapons which can and may be used against either Israel, whom they have sworn avowed hatred, or the United State whom the call the "Great Satan"?

The House reconvened at Noon today, It will do a couple parliamentary items and then recess.  It will reconvene this evening at 5 PM today.

The Senate will reconvene at 2 PM today and will resume consideration of the House message to accompany H.R. 240, the Homeland Security appropriations bill. Around 3:30, the Majority Leader will file cloture on the motion to go to conference with the House on H.R. 240.

At 5:30, there will be a cloture vote on the motion to go to conference.

On Friday, Senate Democrats refused to hold the president accountable for his unilateral changes in immigration ordered in the fall of 2014, filibustering Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) bill to reverse them.

Prior to that vote, the Senate voted 68-31 to pass an amended version of H.R. 240, which would fund the department through Sept. 30th. Later that evening, the Senate passed H.R. 33, as amended to fund Homeland Security through this week, by unanimous consent.

The Wall Street Journal reported yesterday, “The leadership of the most powerful pro-Israel lobby in the U.S. publicly broke Sunday from the White House over the issue of Iran policy during the first of a three-day policy conference in Washington attended by 16,000 of its members.

“Leaders of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, or Aipac, outlined a strategy moving forward of working through Congress to disrupt any nuclear agreement with Tehran that is deemed too weak in denying the country a nuclear weapons capability. This would be achieved, they said, both by seeking to impose new sanctions on Iran and to block the White House’s ability to lift standing U.S. sanctions, which would be required as part of any comprehensive agreement.

“‘Congress has a critical role’ in determining this deal, Howard Kohr, Aipac’s executive director, said in opening remarks aimed at rallying the group’s membership. ‘Congress’s role doesn’t end when there is a deal. Congress must review this deal.’ Mr. Kohr and other Aipac leaders believe any final agreement with Iran must involve the complete dismantling of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, something Obama administration officials have said is no longer on the negotiating table.

“Aipac also is seeking to impose new sanctions on Iran if there is no agreement by a late March deadline and to legislate an up-or-down vote in Congress. The White House is opposing both legislative actions.”

Indeed, Reuters reported on over the weekend, “President Barack Obama would veto a bill recently introduced in the U.S. Senate allowing Congress to weigh in on any deal the United States and other negotiating countries reach with Iran on its nuclear capabilities, the White House said on Saturday. . . . The Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act would require to submit to Congress the text of any agreement within five days of concluding a final deal with Iran. The bill would also prohibit Obama from suspending or waiving sanctions on Iran passed by Congress for 60 days after a deal. . . . Republican Senator Bob Corker, one of the bipartisan group of sponsors of the bill, said it was ‘disappointing that the president feels he is the only one who speaks for the citizens of our country.’”

And last month, the president said he would “veto proposed bipartisan legislation to impose new sanctions on Iran so long as diplomatic negotiations over a nuclear deal remain underway,” as ABC News reported at the time.

At the same time the White House is threatening vetoes of legislation designed to ensure any agreement actually halts the Iranian nuclear program, according to Politico, Samantha Power, the U.S. Ambassador to the U.N., still assured AIPAC delegates today that Iran will not acquire a nuclear weapon. “A nuclear-armed Iran will not happen, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations told a meeting of a large pro-Israel lobby Monday, seeking to allay fears about ongoing negotiations over that country’s nuclear program.

“Speaking to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee’s annual conference in Washington, Samantha Power said the relationship between the U.S. and Israel ‘transcends politics, and it always will.’ ‘The United States of America will not allow Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon. Period,’ she said to applause.”

And yet, according to The Wall Street Journal, “Aipac leaders believe any final agreement with Iran must involve the complete dismantling of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, something Obama administration officials have said is no longer on the negotiating table.”

As Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said on the Senate floor today, “[T]omorrow, here in the Capitol, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will address a joint session of Congress. It’s an important speech that comes at an important time. Iran’s long-standing determination to develop nuclear capabilities poses a threat to Israel, America, and the world — it’s a threat Netanyahu is singularly capable of explaining at such a critical moment in U.S.-Israeli relations.”
