John Kerry Defends Giving Nuclear to Iran, Endangers Israel
by Dr. Gordon James Klingenschmitt, Contributing Author: The New York Times reports President Obama's Secretary of State John Kerry is defending the idea of giving nuclear energy to Iran.
"Secretary of State John Kerry sought Tuesday to rebut critics of a potential nuclear deal with Iran, making his case on Capitol Hill just a week before Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel is scheduled to deliver his broadside against the emerging accord in an address to Congress.
"Anybody running around right now, jumping in to say, ‘Well, we don’t like the deal,’ or this or that, doesn’t know what the deal is," Mr. Kerry said. "There is no deal yet. And I caution people to wait and see what these negotiations produce."
"At another point, Mr. Kerry asserted that Mr. Netanyahu had been wrong about the Obama administration’s policy toward Iran in the past. The prime minister, Mr. Kerry said, had denounced a 2013 interim accord to freeze much of Iran’s nuclear program, only to acknowledge belatedly that it was in Israel’s interest."
"Mr. Netanyahu, however, reiterated his criticism of the nuclear agreement that the Obama administration is now trying to negotiate, charging that it would do too little to constrain Iran’s nuclear program and would leave Tehran in a position to pursue the development of nuclear weapons when it lapsed.
"This agreement, if indeed it is signed, will allow Iran to become a nuclear threshold state," Mr. Netanyahu said. I agree with Prime Minister Netanyahu, and I disagree with John Kerry. Giving nuclear energy to Iran is not a roadblock to weapons, rather it paves the road to nuclear weapons in the hands of militant Islamists who vow to wipe Israel off the map of history.
Netanyahu may get more help from Saudi Arabia than Obama
Just before Prime Minister Netanyahu's breathtaking speech to Congress, it was revealed that Saudi Arabia may help Israel defeat Iran's quest for nuclear weapons, even as the Obama Administration tries to help Iran.
"In private talks with European sources, the Saudis have expressed their willingness to cooperate with Israel on Iran, including use of Saudi air space by the IDF for a possible air strike," reports The Jerusalem Post, Rueters, and Israel's Channel 2 News.
"Cooperation with Saudi Arabia would not come free, however. According to the report, the Saudi officials said they would need to see progress between Israelis and Palestinians before having enough legitimacy to allow Israel to use their air space.
"Arab governments, not only Israel, have been expressing concern over the development of a deal with Iran over its nuclear program," the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.
"Talks with Iran over its nuclear program have instilled fear within some major Sunni states, such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates that a nuclear arms race will break out in the region, and brought about speculation regarding the possible extension of a US nuclear umbrella to its non-nuclear-armed Middle East allies.
"According to the Wall Street Journal, concerned Arab states said that a nuclear deal allowing Iran to keep its nuclear-producing technologies would likely drive nations in the region to develop nuclear capabilities in order to match those of Iran's.
"An Arab official, according to the WSJ, said that the collapse of negotiations with Iran is preferable to a bad nuclear deal - a comment similar to those previously iterated by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu." I find it sad commentary that President Obama, VP Biden, and 60 Democrats boycotted Netanyahu's speech, and now Saudi Arabia may help Israel more than America. What has become of our political leaders? Israel is America's strongest ally in the middle east, and must remain so forever.
"The Obama administration is going all out to see that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is defeated, but the campaign of veiled threats and anonymous leaks is backfiring: Instead of sinking in the polls, Netanyahu is rising..." reports Washington Post.
"While White House officials were threatening Israel, the news broke that Obama’s 2012 national field director, Jeremy Bird, was headed to Tel Aviv to manage a grass-roots campaign to oust Netanyahu."
"Bird would not be working to defeat Netanyahu if he thought Obama opposed it. Can you imagine Karl Rove going to London while George W. Bush was in office to help conservatives oust Prime Minister Tony Blair?
"It further emerged that the group behind Bird’s anti-Netanyahu effort has received State Department funding and lists the State Department as a 'partner' on its Web site...
"Obama is clearly hoping that Netanyahu will lose the March elections and that a new, less hawkish Israeli government will be in place to back him on delaying sanctions before the March 24 deadline comes to pass." Obama is so disliked in Israel now, that his campaign against Netanyahu will actually help Netanyahu gain votes. Israeli's are fed up with Obama's support of Iran, and tired of being bombed with rockets by Muslim terrorists. I predict the Israeli elections in March will move them further to the right. Netanyahu's real challenge comes from hawks to his right, not from Obama on his left.
