Taxing Those With Money

The quote actually read: “There was no doubt that the ones with money were about the only ones that could pay anything, but after all these darn rich ones are the ones the rest of us got to live off of. If the Government takes all their money in taxes it don’t leave any for their folks that work for ‘em.” Although a lifelong ‘maybe yellow dog’ Democrat, possibly by heredity, Roger's comments often contained a great deal of common sense. After all, if one doesn’t have money, how can they make payrolls for those depending on a pay check to live?
The often repeated statements coming from many ‘professional politicians’ in campaign mode, as well as in office, ends up meaning "tax the rich not paying their fair share." Which is just what the present income tax does as it is ‘graduated’ so that as incomes increase the tax rate increases. Today, when Government takes something in taxes, it costs 90 cents of every dollar to run the government bureaucracy.
When Amendment XVI was ratified on Feb. 3, 1913, it read: “The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.” It has been documented that the argument put forth to get the State Legislatures to vote for ratification was that the Income Tax would be one half of one percent of incomes over a large amount, possibly $100,000. They lied, didn’t they?
That one sentence Amendment has resulted in the establishment of the IRS and today's abusive tax monstrosity under most of us suffer each year, This is except for those living on an inheritance, the criminals running illegal operations, U.S. owned businesses keeping it's derived income out of the U.S. and a serious number of IRS employees and other Federal employees who have not paid their income taxes. In my opinion, the Amendment should be repealed and replaced with something better, simple and more fair.
There was absolutely no provision in the original Constitution for a tax on incomes. Up until World War II, income taxes were due and payable on or before March 15 of the following year. Some people had to go to the bank and secure a short term loan to pay their income taxes. During the War, the FDR administration with the co-operation of the Democratic controlled Congress instigated the ‘payroll deduction’ system now used for employees. This payroll deduction system was to have ended when the War ended. Big Government didn't do it! Also, those with great wealth found that they could set up trusts to fund their children's needs and those progeny now escape much bother of paying income taxes.
A fairer and more reasonable method of taxation would be one that would bring everyone into the paying of taxes. The FairTax was created by first asking the American people what they wanted out of a tax system, and then having a team of respected economists design a tax system that met those demands. The FairTax replaces the income tax and all other federal income-based taxes with a national consumption tax. The FairTax is levied only once, at the point of purchase on new goods and services. The simplicity of the FairTax frees Americans from our current overwhelming tax code and unshackles the U.S. economy.
The “FairTax” requires repeal of the XVI Amendment before the FairTax is implemented. Space here does not allow for a complete explanation of this proposed alternative. The "FairTax" is a consumption sales tax on purchases of new goods and services items by everyone and would be collected by business / vendor and remitted to the State taxing agency for subsequent forwarding to the Federal Treasury Department less a small service fee. Further, it provides for a “prebate” for EVERY citizen of the locality estimated tax for the necessities of life, paid in advance, thus the very poor would in effect pay no tax. And all those big ticket items purchased by the wealthy would be taxed. Also, none of us would have to file income tax returns - April 15th would just be another normal day in our lives.
The savings would be in the multi-billions of dollars! Since its development, the Fair Tax bill has been repeatedly reintroduced in each new Congress. The current bill is H.R. 25 "The FairTax Act of 2015." Encourage your member of Congress to sign on as co-sponsor.

Interesting article and essentially accurate. However, while HR-25 calls for the repeal of the 16th Amendment, which authorized taxing income, it does NOT require repeal before the #FairTax can be implemented.
