Trump Or Establishment Reoublican Candidate?
by Debbie Pelley, Contributing Author: Sinking Fast. I recently read the article, "7 Reasons Conservatives Should Kiss Donald's Ring." Donald, of course is Donald Trump - in case someone doesn't know his name by now. Just a mention of his name can erupt into a heated debate.
The article summarized the positives of Trump's unbelievable triumphant phenomenon and explained why people are delighted he's been able to do what no other politician has - trample political correctness and make people like it. Four points of their article follow:(1) "Before Trump, we were begging our candidates to lie to us because we knew the truth wasn't sayable. Trump has stated his truth and stood even when they demanded his head. This has emboldened the other conservative candidates, and emasculated the bully-statists on the other side."
(2) "Before Trump was in the race, illegal immigration was off the table for the GOP candidates." Republicans evidently believe they must pander to illegals to get the Hispanic vote even though Romney would have had to get 73% of the Hispanic vote to win but only 4% increase in the white vote. Pandering to illegals results in loss of white votes.
(3) "Before Trump, capitalism was a losing tune...Trump made capitalism cool again! Not just capitalism; but raw, thorny, John Wayne/Clint Eastwood...capitalism is cool again."
(4) "Before Trump, conservatives had about as much chance of defeating a Bush tumbleweed primary victory as Rosie O'Donnell has of winning Miss America." Remember how the establishment-picked candidates Bob Dole and John McCain fared!" First Compare this to establishment candidate Jeb Bush's dishonesty in the debate: "We're at the verge of the greatest time to be alive in this world." What world is Bush living in? Trump says it right- "This country is in big trouble. We dont win anymore...We lose to everybody."
There is a real caveat however in evaluating Trump - illustrated by an incident in my grandsons' lives. One day my daughter and I were observing four-year-old Andrew, and two-year-old Zach, talking to a carpenter next door. When they came in, my daughter said, "Andrew, you know you are not to talk to strangers." Andrew nonchalantly answered, "Oh, Mom, it's okay; Zach has already asked him if he's a mean man." Unfortunately many voters and legislators are just as naive, judging candidates by what they say rather than on their record.
Conservatives know the record of the establishment Republicans well - our country is sinking FAST. So we are looking for someone of a different cloth. Fortunately, we have two candidates with proven records, Ted Cruz and Scott Walker, both of whom have stood the test but in a less bombastic way. I hope to vote for one or both of them. However, if my choice is Jeb Bush or another establishment Republican, I would take the chance and vote for Trump.
