Closing Out Day 2: Speakers at the 2016 GOP Convention; Trump & Pence Nominated

Bill Smith, ARRA NEWS SERVICE: Day 2 of the 2016 RNC Convention in Cleveland is "in history books."

Trump-Pence Were Officially Nominated: Last night, delegates to the 2016 Republican National Convention officially nominated Donald Trump and Indiana Governor Mike Pence to be the party’s 2016 presidential and vice presidential candidates. Governor Pence will accept his nomination this evening in one of the Convention’s most highly anticipated speeches.

This morning, I shared the finalized list for Day 3 scheduled speakers. Some of yesterday's prime time speakers almost "blew the roof off" the convention. The list of speakers were business owners, entrepreneurs, elected officials, and professional athletes who are looking for a leader with the experience to get America’s economy up and running. They spoke about their experiences and express their support for a Republican administration – led by Donald Trump and Mike Pence – that will create a climate for job creation by getting government out of the way and unleashing the untapped potential of American workers and businesses.

Today, some of the speakers will have links to the video of their speech and a brief summary of what they addressed. The other had more dynamic speeches and their video is displayed so you may watch it on this page.

Sharon Day, Co-Chairman of the Republican National Committee
Sharon Day was elected Co-Chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC) on January 14, 2011, and was re-elected on January 25, 2013. From 2009-2011 she served as RNC Secretary. She has served the Republican Party at the local, state, and national levels for more than 20 years. Day has also built several businesses in the insurance and marketing industry, creating jobs for hundreds of individuals and families. Day noted in her speech: "“Hillary Clinton wants you to vote for her simply because she will MAKE history. She repeatedly plays the gender card. In fact she boasts….”deal me in.” Well Mrs. Clinton consider yourself dealt in." . . . “As a Senator you paid women staffers LESS than men. As head of a Foundation you accepted TENS OF MILLIONS of dollars from foreign countries who enslave women and treat them as second-class citizens." Video

Dana White, President, Ultimate Fighting Championship
Dana White is the president and business visionary behind the success of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). A self-described political independent, White has expressed his gratitude to presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump for helping the UFC succeed. Trump hosted the once-controversial mixed martial arts competitions at his Trump Taj Mahal casino property when other venues shunned the sport. He received a standing ovation when he said, "I have been in the fight business my whole life. I know fighters. Ladies and gentlemen, Donald Trump is a fighter. And I know he will fight for this country." Video

Governor Asa Hutchison, Arkansas
Asa Hutchinson is serving his first term as Governor of Arkansas. His main priority is bringing more jobs and economic growth to his native state, and he is working hard to make Arkansas an attractive place to locate a business.Video

Leslie Rutledge, Arkansas Attorney General
Rutledge’s election in 2014 was the first time a woman or a Republican had been elected Arkansas Attorney General. Rutledge has joined Arkansas with Texas and other states in challenging the constitutionality of the Obama administration’s executive orders on immigration and court filings to protect personal property rights. She nailed Hillary - follow the money! Video

Michael B. Mukasey, Former Attorney General
Michael Mukasey served as Attorney General of the United States from November 2007 to January 2009. Prior to serving as Attorney General, Mukasey served as a judge in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, including a tenure as Chief Judge from 2000-2006. Mukasey noted in his speech, "Over the years, Hillary Clinton has done a lot and said a lot to show why she should not be president. But how she treated government secrets as Secretary of State, and what she said before and after she was caught, sums up the case against her. She sent and received secret, and top-secret, and beyond-top-secret emails on an unsecure private email system instead of on the secure government system – and she did it without authorization."

Andy Wist, Businessman
Andy Wist founded the Standard Waterproofing Company in 1979. Beginning in his mom’s basement in Brooklyn, Andy grew the company into one of the largest roofing, waterproofing, and landmark restoration companies in New York City, which today counts more than 180 employees and is headquartered in the Bronx. In addition to his business, Wsit also noted. "I’m also the trustee of Teamsters Local 522, because like Donald Trump and Mike Pence, I believe that working men and women still matter in this country and we have to look out for them.

After 8 years of President Obama, I don’t see the American Dream like I did when I was starting out. All I see is too many people out of work… too many jobs shipped overseas… and too many politicians who don’t care.

Donald Trump is a builder. He’s a leader who will bring us together. He’ll make America work again, so we can believe again."

U.S. Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wisconsin)
Elected in 2010, Johnson has been fighting to get the country’s fiscal house in order. He is focused on reining in government spending and bringing jobs back to the people of Wisconsin. Before being elected to office, Johnson started a polyester and plastics manufacturing business, PACUR, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Running this small business, Johnson did everything from operating the equipment to keeping the company books.

Chris Cox, Executive Director of NRA Institute for Legislative Action
Chris Cox directs NRA’s nationwide legislative and political efforts. As a champion of the right to bear arms guaranteed by the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, Cox has directed NRA’s electoral efforts at every level. He has been at the forefront of efforts resisting Obama administration gun control initiatives as well as abuses of power, including the Justice Department’s Operation Fast and Furious effort that knowingly allowed guns to “walk” to Mexican drug cartels. Chris' video was reported on yesterday here.

Natalie Gulbis, Professional Golfer
Natalie Gulbis is a professional golfer playing on the U.S.-based LPGA tour. The California native has played golf since the age of four and earned second place in Rookie of the Year points during her first year on tour in 2002. Gulbis starred in the 2005 and 2006 reality show, The Natalie Gulbis Show, which aired on The Golf Channel. Gulbis wrote a much-talked about piece on golf.com entitled “The Donald Trump I Know” in which she voiced her strong support for Donald Trump to become President of the United States. Video

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky)
U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell has represented the state of Kentucky since 1985, making him the state’s longest-serving senator. McConnell also serves in the Senate leadership; he is currently the Senate Majority Leader, which is the chamber’s highest-ranking Republican. Previously, he served an eight-year term as Senate Minority Leader. He noted: "The American people are tired of hearing about the bounty of government while the cost of just caring for a family or meeting daily expenses grows out of reach."

"Over the past few years, they’ve seen government officials abuse their office and get rewarded for it. They’ve seen the middle class shrink."

"And in the midst of all this they have raised a simple complaint. Who is looking out for us?" . . . "[A] terrifying mosquito-borne illness threatens expectant mothers and their babies along the Southern Coast."

"And just last week, Clinton Democrats in the Senate blocked a bill aimed at eradicating that virus before it spread."

"They blocked a defense funding bill. A bill that would support the brave men and women who are right now defending us overseas. What do these people think public service is about?"

U.S. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI-1)
U.S. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan is the chairman of the 2016 Republican National Convention. Born and raised in Janesville, Wisconsin, Ryan has spent his life advocating for real solutions that help increase opportunities for all Americans. He first won election to the U.S. House in 1999, and during his tenure, he has become known for his leadership on budget and fiscal matters. Video

A fourth-generation resident of Kern County, California, he grew up in a working-class family and ran a small business, Kevin O’s Deli. He has applied this background to his work on behalf of small businesses and reducing the burdens of taxes and regulations. Video

Governor Chris Christie, Governor of New Jersey
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was a candidate for president in the 2016 Republican primary. First elected governor in 2010, he was re-elected to his second term in 2013. Chris Christie had the delegates involved with his Indictment of Hillary Clinton. Video:

Tiffany brought down the house with a heartfelt speech, leaving the audience moved by her love and respect for her father. Video:

Kerry Woolard, General Manager, Trump Winery

A graduate of the College of William and Mary, Kerry has 15 years of winery management experience and has contributed wine columns for the Wine Gazette and USA Today. In her role at Trump Winery, Kerry oversees all operations and has worked with Donald Trump to make the business a huge success. Woolard noted, "The Trumps have also given a gift to those who know them, an approach and an outlook to life which will always guide me. Because of them I now think bigger, and in ways I thought might not even be possible. Donald Trump has told me that a person’s own drive and work ethic are the only limitations to success, and I now believe that and know it to be true."

Donald Trump, Jr., Son of Donald Trump and EVP, The Trump Organization
Donald J. Trump, Jr. is an innovator and leader in today’s business world. As an Executive Vice President at The Trump Organization, Donald Jr. works in tandem with his siblings Ivanka and Eric to expand the company’s real estate, retail, commercial, hotel and golf interests nationally and internationally. U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-West Virginia)
When elected in 2015, Senator Shelly Moore Capito achieved two historic firsts: she became the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate in West Virginia’s history, and in garnering more than 62 percent of the vote and winning all 55 counties, she secured the largest margin of victory for a Republican in a statewide race in the history of West Virginia. Capito has already sponsored more than 100 pieces of legislation in the Senate and is the only freshman to chair a subcommittee on the Appropriations Committee. Capito previously served in the U.S. House of Representatives, where she represented West Virginia’s Second District for 14 years. Video
