ISIS Threatens The West, Hypocrisy Takes The Stage, Trump's Tour De Force
Editorial Cartoon by Glenn McCoy |
Before we move on and forget what happened to Father Jacques Hamel, here are some of the latest details. There is a mosque just a block away from the church were Father Hamel was murdered. Ironically, the mosque sits on land that was donated by the Catholic Church.
According to French reports, the community around the mosque is "known to be an anchor of the jihadist network," and the mosque has produced several terrorists. In addition, the church where Father Hamel was murdered was found to be on an ISIS hit list.
Think about this. Islam means submission. Some say it means peace. But look at how the faith is practiced: Muslims get on their knees and prostrate themselves en masse bowing to Allah in submission.
What did the Islamic supremacists do to Father Hamel? They forced him to his knees. They made him bow in submission and then they killed him.
A nun who witnessed the attack said the Islamists also started "preaching in Arabic in front of the altar." I have not seen a translation yet of what the jihadists preached at the altar, but I suspect it could have been the Shahada: "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah."
Were French authorities monitoring the mosque given its history? Are French authorities and the French people willing to tolerate churches being on hit lists? Are European leaders prepared to confront this evil that is threatening Judeo-Christian civilization?
Sadly, as Europeans have become ever more "enlightened" and progressive, they have abandoned their traditional faith. The great churches of Europe are largely empty. Many have been converted to mosques. And as Europe imports more and more Muslims, Islam is filling the void left by a decaying and decadent culture.
By the way, ISIS is now warning that London and Washington are next on its hit list.
Hypocrisy Takes The Stage - Day two of the Democratic National Convention saw some history and a whole lot of hypocrisy. For the record books, Hillary Clinton became the first female presidential nominee of a major political party. But Hillary's moment of glory wasn't without controversy as a large contingent of Sanders delegates walked off the convention floor in protest.
But beyond that, yesterday's lineup of speakers was surreal. For example, members of "Mothers of the Movement," mothers of black men and teenagers who have been killed in altercations with the police, took the stage. As I noted yesterday, one of the women was Lezley McSpadden, the mother of Ferguson teenager Michael Brown.
Brown's death triggered the Ferguson riots and gave us the myth of "Hands Up, Don't Shoot." Michael Brown was not a victim of anything but his own illegal behavior.
Almost immediately following this tribute to black lives was an address by Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood. Obviously, Richards doesn't place much value on the lives of black babies.
Later on, actress Lena Dunham took the stage. You may recall that Dunham made news for accusing a Republican acquaintance of raping her while they were in college. Then we found out that it never happened.
Now, don't get me wrong, folks. I'm not trying to belittle police brutality or sexual assault. I am belittling the Democrat Party's elevation of myths over facts -- something we have seen far too much of over the past eight years.
But then after all the talk about women's rights from Cecile Richards, Lena Dunham, Meryl Streep, Senator Barbara Boxer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Democrats turned the stage over to . . . Bill Clinton -- an accused sexual predator!
You can't make this up. With all the Hollywood glitz and glamour on display last night, did no one question the optics of this line up? Where was the continuity team? The hypocrisy is just stunning!
Bill Clinton has been accused of sexual assault by multiple women. We know he abused his position of power and a young intern in the Oval Office. He was impeached and lost his law license because he lied under oath and attempted to obstruct justice. He paid a huge settlement to Paula Jones.
Bill Clinton IS the war on women. He should be shunned, not celebrated.
Now They Care - Outrage over the likely Russian hacking of DNC computers continues to grow today. Suddenly, all these pacifist Democrats in Philadelphia sound like they are ready to go to war.
Over the last eight years, the Russians, the Chinese and the Iranians have hacked the State Department, Pentagon, the White House, dozens of banks, a dam, and seized almost all vital information on virtually every current and past federal employee.
The reaction of the Obama Administration to each attack was largely muted. But when the DNC is hacked, that's beyond the pale. And if the Russians hacked the DNC, I guarantee they hacked Hillary's private server too, and they have her missing 30,000 "personal" emails.
Trump's Tour De Force - Democrats have never seen anything like this. Quite frankly, Republicans haven't seen anything like this -- a candidate who breaks all the rules.
Usually, candidates go dark during the opposition party's convention. The media are focused on the convention and the candidate takes a break from the grind. But not Donald Trump.
Trump stepped up his activities this week, and today he delivered a tour de force. He did what Hillary Clinton has been afraid to do for months. Trump called a press conference and told reporters to ask him anything.
There's not enough room to explain everything that was discussed, but here are some comments that do explain why Trump is gaining more traction than Mitt Romney or John McCain ever did.
Referring to Obama's legacy, Trump said:
And Trump is gaining momentum. The latest CBS poll has Trump up one point. The latest CNN poll has Trump up three points. And the most recent Los Angeles Times poll has Trump leading Hillary Clinton by seven points!
