The Mueller Conspiracy?
Editorial Cartoon by AF Branco |
This week’s unfairness, insanity, irritation, frustration and downright infuriation has to do with the Special Prosecutor, Robert Mueller.
When Rod Rosenstein, the assistant Attorney General, chose him as the Special Prosecutor, all we heard from the right and left media was that he was an honest, sincere, impartial previous FBI Director who was a Republican and who had been appointed by President George W. Bush. It seemed universal that Rosenstein had made a wonderful choice. That Mueller would honestly and efficiently look into the possibility of Russian collusion with the Trump election campaign. Many on both sides, especially conservatives, sighed a sense of relief that non-partisan objectivity would ensue.
Well, that didn’t last very long. We all now know that he and fired FBI Director James Comey are really good friends and they had discussions concerning Comey’s testimony before he gave it to the Senate Panel. Well, that doesn’t smell right, does it? And now we’re told he is investigating President Trump for Obstruction of Justice in addition to campaign collusion.
Then, this week, we are informed that Special Prosecutor Mueller has hired multiple lawyers to help him with the investigation. Problem is, at least four of the lawyers aren’t neutral when it comes to President Trump, Republicans and even Hillary Clinton.
One lawyer defended Hillary Clinton in the investigation into the Clinton Foundation and all four lawyers have donated heavily to the Democratic Party, Obama and Hillary Clinton. Not hard to figure out who they’re rooting against in this investigation. Does anyone really expect them to be impartial and fair? Could they be expected to also look into Hillary Clinton's or Loretta Lynch's possible illegal activity? I doubt it.
My frustration over the above unfairness is only added to when I realize that the Republicans are essentially silent allowing this travesty of an inquiry to continue as long as it is headed up by Mueller and his four chosen lawyers.
Lastly, Attorney General Sessions had to recuse himself from the investigation into Russia. It is a fact that assistant Attorney General Rosenstein, in a letter to President Trump, recommended Comey’s firing and also chose Prosecutor Mueller. Remarkably, he may now be called to testify as a witness concerning the charge of Obstruction of Justice by the man he chose to lead the investigation. He too may have to recuse himself.
What's next? Eric Holder being asked to join the Special Prosecutor's Team? The ways things are going, it's not that impossible or ridiculous.
WHO CAN MAKE THESE THINGS UP? WILL IT EVER END?
