German Politicians And Media Demonize Israel
. . . German Foreign Minister meets with German funded NGOs that slander the Jewish State.
by Joseph Puder: In April of this year, German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel made his inaugural visit to Israel, which sparked a full-blown diplomatic crisis between Israel and Germany. FM Gabriel insisted on meeting with German funded Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) that demonize Israel. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu canceled the planned meeting with Gabriel as a result of the diplomatic insult.
It was quite audacious on the part of the German FM on his maiden visit to the Jewish state, to meet with anti-Israel NGO’s instead of focusing on issues pertaining to bilateral relations. Gabriel’s choice to meet with these NGO’s, when the Palestinian Authority is inciting Palestinian youth to murder Israelis with knifes, guns, and car ramming’s, was particularly offensive. It is especially unnerving when millions of Syrians are trapped in a brutal civil war, while Bashar Assad, the Syrian dictator, and his helpers, Iran, Hezbollah and Russia are murdering hundreds of thousands of Syrians. Iran’s repressive regime funds terrorism and fuels regional instability. Hezbollah and Hamas rule Lebanon and Gaza respectively by terror and intimidation, and Turkey imprisons political opponents and journalists.
Israel is a fellow democracy whose policies and measures taken to protect its people should be most clearly understood by Germany, the perpetrator nation that murdered more than a third of the worlds Jewry. Instead, German politicians have arrogated themselves the right to preach to Israel, the state of the Jewish people, on human rights. In February this year, Chancellor Angela Merkel postponed the annual bilateral German-Israeli cabinet meeting to express her anger over Israel’s decision to legalize certain settlements.
Nazi Germany murdered Six million Jews and a majority of German Jews. Angela Merkel’s Germany has now imported over a million Muslim immigrants, most of them harboring anti-Semitic prejudice they absorbed from their families, governments, mosques and school systems. These immigrants seek to make Germany and Europe part of the Islamic domain. Many of these political and economic migrants carry the anti-Semitic virus and Jihadist sympathies, if not outright terrorist inclinations. The influence of about 6 million Muslims in Germany contribute to what Professor Manfred Gerstenfeld described as “Tens of millions of contemporary Germans demonize Israel.”
The Nazi propaganda media characterized the Jews as an inferior race. In today’s Germany the media similarly demonizes the Jewish state, portraying Israelis as Nazis in its alleged treatment of the Palestinian-Arabs. It appears as though the moratorium over Germany guilt and shame over its role in carrying out the Holocaust is over. German politicians and media have adopted aggressive and offensive anti-Israel positions as a strategy to assuage their guilt over the greatest crime in memorable history. They do it by using perverted moral equivalency.
The moral equivalence German politicians and media often use is equating German Nazis murder of innocent Jewish civilians including 1.5 million Jewish children, throughout Europe, with Palestinian-Arab “victims,” who imbibed their murderous Jew hatred from Nazi Germany’s anti-Semitic propaganda, and whose champion was Haj Amin al-Husseini, the Mufti of Jerusalem, Hitler’s friend and ally. It is especially outrageous when such moral equivalence comes from Germans. Moreover, Yasser Arafat, the leader of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) and renowned murderous terrorist, was trained by Hitler’s favorite Nazi commander, Otto Skorzeny, the Austrian born SS-Obersturmbannfurer (Major) in the Waffen-SS. Skorzeny was also the conceiver of “werewolf warfare,” roving bands of guerilla fighters sporadically attacking different priority targets and then disappearing into the background. He was the grandfather to today’s Palestinian-Arabs, Al Qaida, and ISIS terrorist cells and tactics.
Since its birth in 1948, and even in decades before that, Israel has had to endure Palestinian-Arab murderous terrorism. Currently, to protect its population from suicide bombers and other forms of terror, Israel has built a protective fence and erected checkpoints to prevent Palestinian-Arab terrorists in the West Bank (Judea and Samaria) from entering Israel. German anti-Semites do not however, recognize Jewish-Israeli rights of self-defense. For them, the Jews should always be as they were during the Holocaust years, defenseless sheep, willing to be slaughtered. German anti-Semites, in the guise of anti-Zionists, clearly ignore the Palestinian-Arab anti-Semitic hatred that is nurtured by the Palestinian Authority, its media, its educational system and its mosques. They overlook the incitement to kill Jews, and only see the Palestinian-Arab terrorist as a victim – yes, a victim of his/her own attempt to kill a Jew.
In a 2007 Bertelsmann foundation poll, Germans were asked whether they agreed with the statement ”What the State of Israel does today to the Palestinians is in principle the same as what the Nazis did during the Third Reich.” 30% of respondents agreed. However, by the time the question was asked yet again in 2013, the number of German respondents agreeing with the statement had risen sharply to 41%, a figure much higher than the findings of previous polls.
In 2013, Germany’s most widely-read daily newspaper “Suddeutsche Zeitung” used a cartoon featuring Moloch, the Canaanite deity associated with child sacrifice to accompany a review of the book by liberal Jewish American commentator Peter Beinart. The caption beneath the cartoon read: “Germany is serving for decades now, Israel has been given weapons, and partly free of charge, Israel’s enemies think it is a ravenous Moloch,” alluding that Israel is using German arms to kill Palestinian-Arab children.
According to Professor Gerstenfeld, in 2004, the University of Bielefeld undertook an opinion poll in Germany asking if interviewees agreed with the statement that Israel was conducting a war of extermination against Palestinians. Sixty-eight percent of those interviewed agreed. Norbert Blum, former Christian-Democrat federal (of Angela Merkel’s party) minister, in a 2009 speech, linked Nazi persecution of the Jews with atrocities against Palestinians.
Professor Gerald Steinberg, Founder and Director of NGO-Monitor, wrote in April, 2014 that, “(German) taxpayers money provided to NGO’s, political foundations and church groups are central to the de-legitimization (of Israel). European money in general and German funds in particular, pay for the fuel and ammunition for the political warfare strategy adopted in the infamous NGO forum of the 2001 Durban Conference, whose participants declared their objective of ‘the complete international isolation of Israel as an apartheid state.’ In many parts of Europe, including Germany, particularly on university campuses, churches and trade unions, this insidious form of warfare has been successful in demonizing Israel.”
Steinberg added, “One of the most egregious examples is the German support for and cooperation with a notorious ‘one–state’ (meaning no Israel) NGO known as Zochrot, whose mission is to ‘raise public awareness of the Palestinian Nakba’ and to support the so-called Palestinian ‘right of return’ (a formulas for Israel’s demographic destruction). Zochrot repeats modern blood libels, in the form of accusations of ‘ethnic cleansing’ and ‘forcible displacement and dispossession of Palestinian people.”
The latest outrage was committed by Stefan Krawielicki, the German ambassador to UNESCO on July 4, 2017, in Krakow, Poland. Once again, a German diplomat exercised moral equivalency between the murder of 6 million Jews and Palestinian “victims” in their own terrorism campaign against Israel. Krawielicki stood up to honor the Palestinian “victims” as if they were equal to the Jews murdered by the Nazis only a few miles away from the conference hall.
The self-righteous posture of the German government and media cannot and will not erase the eternal debt Germany and Germans owe to the Jewish people and the Jewish state.
