Democrats' Hypocrisy On Dark Money In Politics Exposed Again

... As They Seek To Shut Down The Voice of "We the People"!

ARRA News Service - Again, news reports have exposed Democrats’ ongoing hypocrisy when it comes to spending on elections and the value of political speech. Politico writes today, “Democrats love to cast Republicans as the party of big money, beholden to the out-of-touch billionaires bankrolling their campaigns. But new numbers tell a very different story — one in which Democrats are actually raising more big money

" ... thanks to a spike in massive checks from increasingly energized labor unions and liberal billionaires like Tom Steyer and Fred Eychaner. . . .

“So … even as Democrats like Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid are working methodically to turn conservative megadonors like the big-giving conservative billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch into the boogeymen of 2014, the [Democratic] party itself is increasingly relying on its deepest pockets as the best chance of staving off a midterm wipeout forecast by oddsmakers.

“... Steyer, a retired San Francisco hedge fund billionaire, on Aug. 15 stroked a $15 million check to his own NextGen Climate Action super PAC that single-handedly exceeded the combined monthly total raised by the two GOP congressional campaign committees. And ... may give more to his super PAC than his $50 million pledge, ...”

Reid has spent months attacking the Kochs on the Senate floor, even declaring them “un-American,” and spending time on a radical constitutional amendment that would gut the core political speech protections of the First Amendment, all in service of Democrat complaints about money being used to speak in election campaigns.

Yet, as Politico points out, Democrats are spending even more money than the conservatives they are attacking for this supposed transgression. “In this year’s races, Democrats have essentially adopted a plank attacking Republicans as in the pocket of the Koch brothers — with Reid repeatedly taking to the Senate floor to make the case — even as Democrats have in some ways surpassed Republicans in the big money chase. . . . [T]elevision station data analyzed by Wesleyan University showed that Senate Majority PAC had actually aired more spots than even [Koch-affiliated] AFP.

“And … Senate Majority PAC raised nearly $6 million in August . . . from a collection of unions (which combined to give $2.3 million) and rich liberals like the Chicago media mogul Eychaner (who gave $1 million, bringing his midterm tally to the PAC to $5 million).”

Further, Politico explains, Senate Majority PAC “is affiliated with a 501(c) secret-money nonprofit group called Patriot Majority that has reported spending more than $7 million boosting Democratic candidates.” This exposes another bit of Democrat hypocrisy, given their frequent outcries about “dark money.”

Earlier this month, The Washington Post reported, “The Senate Majority PAC, fueled by billionaires and labor unions, has been the biggest-spending super PAC of the 2014 midterm contests. Together with an allied tax-exempt group, Patriot Majority, the pro-Democratic effort has poured at least $36 million into ads and voter outreach, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonpartisan research organization. . . . Some of the financial backing behind the effort remains hidden.

“As a tax-exempt ‘social welfare’ organization, Patriot Majority — which is running TV ads and an under-the-radar field program — is not required to disclose its contributors.”

Recall, that Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell identified that “[W]ith the Democrats’ fragile Senate Majority hanging by a thread, it seems they’re done playing by the normal rules of democracy. It seems they’d rather just rewrite the rules altogether to shut up their critics and shut down their opponents. Even as they continue to give a pass to the left-wing tycoons they like — folks who preach higher taxes and more regulation for everyone else, while jealously guarding pet projects and sweetheart deals for themselves.

“The aim here, just like with the IRS scandal, is to use the levers of power to shut down the voice of We the People when We the People don’t see things their way. The First Amendment is the only thing standing in the way.”

The actions by present Democrats is far more than hypocrisy.  It is dangerous.  While crying out against the use of free speech and being unsuccessfully in their movement to amend the 1st Amendment, they have proceeded  in their efforts of using "so-called" "Dark Money."   Their short term goal: to defeat Republicans so as to preserve their False Prophet of the Senate, Harry Reid  and to preserve their ongoing use of their "nuclear option" to pack the Federal Courts.  They understand that this will aid their efforts far into future generations.   The long term goal of the progressive democrats is to diminish "We the People."   They desire a total rebuff of the Tea Party movement in America.  They desire this even more than they desire the defeat of Republicans. For democrats, defeating conservatives is a stepping stone to silencing the voice of We the People.
