Who Should Confront the Iranian Time Bomb - Obama or McCain

Dr. Bill SmithBill Smith, ARRA Editor: With the presidential election upon us, many people are also focused on the economy. However, we know from history that we will be able to correct our economic problem even if it takes longer than our American tendency to want instant solutions for everything. However, because of the economic crisis, many voters are ignoring the most significant issue that our next president is directly responsible to address. That issue is the very real global threat to America's very survival. Since confronting this threat every day is not part of our personal daily routine and responsibilities (until it is too late), we tend to be myopic and look at the "me things."

If inexperienced or burdened down with domestic and economic cares, voters may not comprehend or may even forget the bigger picture -- surviving the very "real" foreign enemies that literally hate our culture, democracy, traditions, freedoms, religions, materialism, and way of living. In fact, they hate us (i.e., you). In our daily bickering over small things, we tend to ignore the big dangers because we can we do nothing about them individually.

To put "just one" of the threats into perspective, consider an article in the October issue of Imprimis published by Hillsdale College that addresses Iran. The article was adapted from a speech by Michael Ledeen. Michael Ledeen is the Freedom Scholar at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies and a contributing editor at National Review Online. Previously, he served in the White House as a national security advisor and in the Departments of Defense and State. He is author of more than 20 books, including The Iranian Time Bomb. His articles have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, the American Spectator, International Economy, Commentary, and the Washington Times.

The article is too long to quote here so I encourage you to visit and the read the article online. However, below are Lendeen's closing words which highlight just one of the many countries whose government leaders hate America and who wish our demise as the principle leader of the 'free world":
"The bottom line is that Iran is our principal enemy in the Middle East, and perhaps in the entire world. It is also a terribly vulnerable regime, and it knows that—which is why it makes up stories about airplanes and missiles that it doesn’t have. As for the question of nuclear weapons, it seems hard to imagine that Iran does not already have them. Iranians are not stupid, and they have been at this for a minimum of 20 years in a world where almost every major component needed for a nuclear weapon—not to mention old nuclear weapons—are for sale. A lot of these components are for sale nearby in Pakistan. And if the Iranians do have a weapon, it is impossible to imagine that, at a moment of crisis, they will not use it. The point is, we have an implacable enemy which has no intention of negotiating a settlement with us. They want us dead or dominated, just as our enemies did in the 1930s and ’40s. You can’t make deals with a regime like that.

Our choices with regard to Iran are to challenge them directly and win this war now, to do so only after they kill a lot more of us in some kind of attack, or to surrender. There is no painless way out, and the longer we wait, the greater the pain is going to be."
So, who is best to challenge Iran and other enemies of our Nation - Obama or McCain? The most critical and therefore, important issue is not "change" but survival -- how will America continue to physically exist as a country and a democracy with guaranteed individual freedoms and rights. Who will be the best president to protect us from our foreign enemies (even while we continue our internal domestic bickering over almost everything)?

Do we pick Obama - a younger inexperienced (i.e., non-experienced) smooth talking candidate who is an anti-traditional family values advocate and unfortunately already has a past full of bad choices and savory associations? Following the mantra of "Change" is not the answer because the issue is then "change from what and to what" and importantly, the consequences of the "change." Change can mean a lot of things. We have recently experienced a lot of negative economic change which can be directly associated with Obama's associates in and out of Congress. And how can a person who voted "present" verses "yes or no" on a majority of his votes in the Illinois and US Senates be prepared to address the most important issues of our time? Voting present is not good enough when dealing with threats to America. Obama promises talk and compromise and appears willing to concede ground to our enemies (i.e., using an appeasement approach).

Or, do we pick McCain -- an older but scarred and proven warrior who is the straight talking man who is called a maverick for taking consistent stands and speaking the truth even within his own party? An experienced candidate who understands the threats to our country from outside our borders. A man who served his country in war and understands the pain and suffering. A man who while addressing the enemy understands compassion and forgiveness towards those who even tortured him. McCain is willing and able to clearly detail to our enemies (those who wish us harm and / or even destroy us) the limits of our tolerance and a clear understanding of the consequences for pursuing further aggressive acts, actions that threaten America.

The American people have voiced poll after poll their continued negative opinion of the present Congress lead by Democrats and have given the Democrat leadership the lowest ratings in history. It is from this pool of Democrats that a junior inexperienced member has come forth to be their candidate for president. Not a person who stood on principles against his own failing political party leadership but instead pandered for items he wished and voted absent or present on the other issues. If Obama were to become president, he will be again supporting these same failing "tax and spend" liberal leaders: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. And then who will save us from our enemies?

Congratulations, Democrats -- You Did It!

by Gary Bauer, Campaign for Working Families: Nancy Pelosi and congressional Democrats have kept their promise. They took control of Congress in 2006 partly on a campaign promise to lower the price of gas. And even though Nancy Pelosi kept her plan a secret while gas prices skyrocketed to record levels for the past two years, the Speaker from San Francisco has finally delivered. Gas prices are down, and the Democrats can take all the credit for it.

Now, before you start thinking I’ve lost my mind, let’s go back about six months. In an End of Day report on April 2nd, I wrote the following about high gas prices:
“There is one way guaranteed to get prices down fast – a deep U.S. or global recession. People without jobs to go to certainly use less gasoline. And if Democrats in Congress follow-up on their threats to raise taxes and continue to bash the capitalist system that has given our country great wealth, a deep recession may be exactly what we get. And when that happens, I doubt any of us will be applauding the lower prices at the pump.”
What’s happened since April 2nd? Just the mortgage meltdown, which triggered the stock market crash, and the global credit freeze and rising unemployment, virtually of all of which can be traced back to the liberal policies of Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton in the Community Reinvestment Act. Not to mention the practices of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, which were championed by ACORN and vigorously defended by congressional Democrats like Senate Banking Committee Chairman Democrat Chris Dodd and House Financial Services Chairman Democrat Barney Frank, as well as the second largest recipient of campaign cash from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- Barack Obama.

Congratulations, Democrats, you did it. You tanked the economy and lowered gas prices. No wonder Congress has an 18% approval rating. Anyone applauding now?

Idaho man bags monster bull elk

"Take a break from politics." Oh yea, since guns are involved, don't tell a liberal democrat. By Ted Dawson, KIDK News: AMMON, Idaho - Denny Austad is a hunter - he has been since he was a little kid hunting with a squirrel gun back in Minnesota. But he came to the West because he wanted to hunt big game and boy has he succeeded - with more than 30 trophy elk.

Austad even makes his own guns and back in September, he took one of those guns to Utah to hunt a giant 9-year-old elk called the Spider Bull. And with just an hour of sleep, Austad bagged the world famous bull with one shot. Now, Austad is waiting to see if his Spider Bull is a world record. He won't know for sure until this spring, but no matter what, Austad is living every hunter's dream.

Thoughts on the 2008 National Election

From the heart of the Ozarks, a Letter to Editor by Fred Polich of Bull Shoals, Arkansas: These are hard economic times for many. The mainstream media and other liberal influences, like Hollywood, want the public to believe it is all the fault of the Bush Administration. However, it was the Carter and Clinton administrations and policies that pushed for easier lending guidelines for home buyers who couldn't afford to make a down payment and their mortgage payments. It was Democrats in Congress that pushed legislation that promoted the lending to buyers who should not have received mortgages. However, the failed housing market, collapsed lending institutions, and the recent Wall Street tumble and economic downturn has turned the polls to favor the Democrats. At this point in the election campaign, should the focus be only on the economy?

I am a conservative with mainstream values who is very concerned with the ultimate outcome of the 2008 election. Protecting the unborn; the right to bear arms; marriage being only between a man and a woman; keeping "In God We Trust" on our currency and the pledge of allegiance with the words "under God" in it; and honoring our flag are some of my core beliefs. It is these core values and beliefs that a Democrat victory would be a seriously threaten. I am concerned that if Barack Obama were elected with both the Senate and House remaining under the control of Democrats, the consequences will be devastating.

Why am I concerned? Because Obama said his first action would be signing the "Freedom of Choice Act." A law that would open all avenues to abortion and prohibit limitation or restrictions by the states. Also, I anticipate legislation that will threaten mainstream traditional core values, disregard the intent of our Founding Fathers, twist our Constitution, and violate our Bill of Rights. I fear that immigration problems and terrorism will become an even greater threat because of "softer" policies. I'm concerned that our military capabilities will be compromised. But, my number one fear is the life-time appointments of replacement Supreme Court judges and other federal judges. Most assuredly their judicial philosophies will mirror that of Barack Obama and the liberals in the Senate who confirm judicial appointments. Therefore, the decisions of these new justices and judges would most likely be extremely liberal, long lasting and likely devastating to people holding to traditional values.

It is a voter's patriotic duty before voting to know the voting record and core values of the candidates (presidential and congressional). Consider Barack Obama's associations with a terrorist (Bill Ayers) and with other outspoken critics of our Nation, such as his pastor, Jeremiah Wright. Also, consider his ties with ACORN, an organization under investigation in thirteen states for voter fraud. Obama has a vested interest in ACORN because he was a training instructor for their volunteers and a recipient of benefits. You can find out more about ACORN and the individuals previously mentioned by searching the Internet, reading sites like the ARRA News Service, the Family Research Council and Focus on the Family, and listening to conservative talk radio and FOX NEWS. You will learn a LOT that the other main stream media doesn't tell you because of their liberal posturing.

Remember Sen. John McCain endured a lot of pain in the stockades and never compromised his Country or his values. My friends and fellow countrymen please don't "sell out" your values and God given rights to a hurting pocketbook during tough economic times. Please do your homework and vote wisely. Arkansas Resident Battles for Ohio Votes

Allan Hundley, Baxter County Arkansas works the phones for John McCain in OhioBill Smith, ARRA Editor: Al Hundley, a Baxter County, Arkansas resident, asked me "where can I best make a difference supporting John McCain for President." As National Political Director, Let's Get This Right, I asked "are you willing to travel and pay your expenses." As we talked, I emailed him a list of swing state offices and phone numbers. He said "yes I'm going!" and now he is in Ohio! Cleveland's WKYC TV 3 reported last night on Al Hundley's and Bob Klitzkie's work for the John McCain campaign in Ohio:
BRECKSVILLE -- Al Hundley and Bob Klitzkie are both a long way from home helping John McCain try to put Ohio in the victory column. Both men are retired, both are dedicated McCain backers, and both are bankrolling the cost of their travel, hotel room and food out of their own pocket. Both men asked to be assigned someplace where their work could make a difference.

Both are working at McCain's Brecksville campaign office for free, doing everything they are asked. That could include making calls, dropping off signs, running errands and helping set up rallies.

Hundley says, "I'm here to help John McCain win the Presidency. Whatever I can to to turn the tide and carry the day." Bob Klitzkie is from Guam in the Pacific. That means he cannot vote for President. Al Hundley is from Arkansas. Both men plan to stay through the election and both predict they'll be celebrating the outcome in Ohio. "The Klitzkie poll says Ohio's going for John McCain," Klitzkie predicts. [Video available]

McCain for President

By Charles Krauthammer: Contrarian that I am, I'm voting for John McCain. I'm not talking about bucking the polls or the media consensus that it's over before it's over. I'm talking about bucking the rush of wet-fingered conservatives leaping to Barack Obama before they're left out in the cold without a single state dinner for the next four years. I stand athwart the rush of conservative ship-jumpers of every stripe -- neo (Ken Adelman), moderate (Colin Powell), genetic/ironic (Christopher Buckley) and socialist/atheist (Christopher Hitchens) -- yelling "Stop!" I shall have no part of this motley crew. I will go down with the McCain ship. I'd rather lose an election than lose my bearings.

First, I'll have no truck with the phony case ginned up to rationalize voting for the most liberal and inexperienced presidential nominee in living memory. . . . McCain the "erratic" is a cheap Obama talking point. The 40-year record testifies to McCain the stalwart. Nor will I countenance the "dirty campaign" pretense. The double standard here is stunning. Obama ran a scurrilous Spanish-language ad falsely associating McCain with anti-Hispanic slurs. . . . McCain's critics are offended that he raised the issue of William Ayers. What's astonishing is that Obama was himself not offended by William Ayers. . . .

The case for McCain is straightforward. The financial crisis has made us forget, or just blindly deny, how dangerous the world out there is. We have a generations-long struggle with Islamic jihadism. An apocalyptic soon-to-be-nuclear Iran. A nuclear-armed Pakistan in danger of fragmentation. A rising Russia pushing the limits of revanchism. Plus the sure-to-come Falklands-like surprise popping out of nowhere.

Who do you want answering that phone at 3 a.m.? A man who's been cramming on these issues for the last year, who's never had to make an executive decision affecting so much as a city, let alone the world? . . .Or do you want a man who is the most prepared, most knowledgeable, most serious foreign policy thinker in the United States Senate? A man who not only has the best instincts, but has the honor and the courage to, yes, put country first, as when he carried the lonely fight for the surge that turned Iraq from catastrophic defeat into achievable strategic victory?

There's just no comparison. Obama's own running mate warned this week that Obama's youth and inexperience will invite a crisis -- indeed a crisis "generated" precisely to test him. Can you be serious about national security and vote on Nov. 4 to invite that test? And how will he pass it? Well, how has he fared on the only two significant foreign policy tests he has faced since he's been in the Senate? The first was the surge. Obama failed spectacularly. He not only opposed it. He tried to denigrate it, stop it and, finally, deny its success. The second test was Georgia, to which Obama responded instinctively with evenhanded moral equivalence, urging restraint on both sides. McCain did not have to consult his advisers to instantly identify the aggressor. Today's economic crisis, like every other in our history, will in time pass. But the barbarians will still be at the gates. Whom do you want on the parapet? I'm for the guy who can tell the lion from the lamb. [Complete Story]

Gov. Sarah Palin at to Bass Pro in Springfield

The "Road to Victory" with Sarah Palin is making a stop in Springfield today - at Bass Pro! The rally with Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin has been moved from Missouri State University Friday to the Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World to accommodate the already expected overflowing crowd. The rally will be held at a parking lot outside of the Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World at at 1935 S. Campbell (corner of Campbell and Sunshine) at 11am. Gates open for the Friday, October 24 event at 9 a.m. with the program beginning at 11 a.m. No tickets are required! However, there will be a special section for those who stood in line and got tickets for the rally, but tickets are no longer needed to come see Palin speak.

Originally the rally was to be held at MSU but in only a matter of hours people quickly snatched up original 4,000 tickets and multitudes from Missouri and Norther Arkansas were disappointed and wanted to to see and hear her speak. The local GOP officials quickly worked out an arrangement with Bass Pro Shops which has a very large parking lot at its Springfield location. Gov. Palin draws large crowds where ever she goes. Bass Pro is not new to accommodating Presidents and other dignitaries and making its property available to fishing and hunting sports enthusiasts from all walks of life. It seems only fitting that Alaska's Governor Sarah Palin, herself a hunting and fishing enthusiast, should speak at Bass Pro.

House Democrats Aim to Remove 401k Tax Breaks

Do you invest in 401K plans through your employer? If so, be sure to read the following!
By Duane Lester, All American Blogger: In Grover Norquist's new book, "Leave Us Alone: Getting the Government's Hands Off Our Money, Our Guns, Our Lives," he writes:
When Ronald Reagan was elected in 1980, less than 20 percent of American households owned stock directly. Today, 50 percent of households own stock and two-thirds of all voters in the past elections were shareholders.
The reason for the increase is the creation of the 401(k) plan. As people understood the plan and with the expansion of the mutual fund industry, more and more people are taking advantage of this. For those who don't know, here's what it is in a nutshell:
Employee 401k contribution are automatically deducted from their paycheck each pay period. This money is taken out before the employees paycheck is taxed. The contributions are invested at the employees direction into one or more funds provided in the plan. Employers often "match" employee contributions, but are not required to do so. While the investments grow in the employees 401k account, they do not pay any taxes on it.
The individual is using his or her property to ensure a prosperous future before the government has a chance to seize it. It is a great plan. I take advantage of it at work, as do many of my co-workers. You should see how attentive some of these folks are to the stock market.

The key part of the plan is found in the last sentence of the above quote. House Democrats are considering abolishing those tax breaks:
Powerful House Democrats are eyeing proposals to overhaul the nation's $3 trillion 401(k) system, including the elimination of most of the $80 billion in annual tax breaks that 401(k) investors receive.

House Education and Labor Committee Chairman George Miller, D-California, and Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Washington, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee's Subcommittee on Income Security and Family Support, are looking at redirecting those tax breaks to a new system of guaranteed retirement accounts to which all workers would be obliged to contribute.

A plan by Teresa Ghilarducci, professor of economic-policy analysis at the New School for Social Research in New York, contains elements that are being considered. She testified last week before Miller's Education and Labor Committee on her
proposal.

At that hearing, the director of the Congressional Budget Office, Peter Orszag, testified that some $2 trillion in retirement savings has been lost over the past 15 months.

Under Ghilarducci's plan, all workers would receive a $600 annual inflation-adjusted subsidy from the U.S. government but would be required to invest 5% of their pay into a guaranteed retirement account administered by the Social Security Administration. The money in turn would be invested in special government bonds that would pay 3% a year, adjusted for inflation.

The current system of providing tax breaks on 401(k) contributions and earnings would be eliminated.
So, instead of getting around 15% on my 401k investments, I'll get a government bond at 3%. Why don't they just kick me straight in the groin while they are at it? Seriously, this is what passes for a reform to Democrats?

John Belluardo, president of Stewardship Financial Services Inc. said it best when he said, "From where I sit that's just crazy...If the tax deferral goes away, the employers have no reason to do the matches, which primarily help people in the lower income brackets."

But the problem with the 401k plan is it's seated in individual and personal responsibility. And another big factor is the billions of dollars the Democrats don't get to tax. Both of those run counter to the Democrats philosophy of having government be the nanny of the masses.

The Democrats simply cannot get enough of your property and they won't hesitate to create new ways to take more of it. Here is a plan, the 401k plan, that is far more credible than Social Security, and they want to take money from it, essentially taking money out of the economy, and give it to government bureaucrats for their failed inter-generational Ponzi scheme.

This is not the change America needs. [Cross posted from All American Blogger]

Catholic Bishops vs. Barack Obama - Will Life Win?

ARRA Editor's Note: It is interesting that if all the people voted according to the doctrines and postitions of their stated Christian churches, the exteme holocost of aborted babies would have ceased long ago. Unfortunately, the gap between what one subscribes to at Church verses what one practices in one's life and actions has created a vast chasm of hypocricy on the part of Christian voters. We have posted numerous Protestant pro-life sources over the past month and have been remiss in not reporting enough from Catholic pro-life sources. Following is a summary of news sources prepared by Barabara Sowell that sets forth the "official" Catholic position regarding voting and the pro-life issue. We have taken the liberty of sharing her entire summary because "life deserves your serious consideration." by Barbara Sowell: Abortion was on the back burner during this election cycle but U.S. Catholic Bishops are a gathering force determined to pit Catholic faithful against Barack Obama. Obama’s extreme pro-choice stance is forcing many Catholics to take a second look.

The U.K’s Sunday Herald discussed “The Battle for the Catholic vote.” The article noted that Catholics make up a third of the electorate in the key states of Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan and Missouri. According to the Sunday Herald,
"Obama, aghast at his party's abandonment of religious voters in a country where 92% of the population believe in God, has reinforced existing efforts to redress this, stressing his Christian beliefs at every opportunity . . ."Sunday the Star-Ledger News reported that last week Bishop Arthur Serratelli of Paterson N.J denounced Barack Obama for his stance on abortion. Serratelli said that Obama’s “first presidential act would be to sign the "Freedom of Choice Act." A law that would forbid interference with women's access to abortion. Serratelli wrote this about Obama in his weekly column last week:
his politician fulfills his promise, not only will many of our freedoms as Americans be taken from us, but the innocent and vulnerable will spill their blood . . .”Star-Ledger News also noted that the bishop of Scranton, Pa, and the bishop of Wilmington, Del, as well as two other prominent bishops, have criticized Biden for his stance on abortion and have questioned whether Biden should be eligible to receive Communion.

Additionally, several prominent bishops have released a statement saying that Speaker of the House, U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi, has misrepresented the Catholic church’s stance on abortion. Pelsoi said that the Church’s teachings on abortion had changed but the Bishops contend that the church has always condemned abortion.

Denver Archbishop Charles Chaput accused Catholics for Obama of “using his words in a misleading way.” The group had quoted Chaput saying, "Catholics can vote for pro-choice candidates, if they vote for them despite -- not because of -- their pro-choice views." Chaput complained the group omitted his next sentence saying those Catholics "also need a compelling proportionate reason to justify it."

The Dallas Morning News reported Tuesday that Bishop Kevin Farrell of the Diocese of Dallas and Bishop Kevin Vann of the Diocese of Fort Worth had written a letter to parishioners that says that voting for a candidate who supports “the intrinsic evil of abortion” is morally impermissible. According to a spokesperson for the Bishops, the letter was not an endorsement of any political candidate. The letter sought to clarify Catholic teachings, “particularly a document issued by U.S. bishops called "Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship." Part of the letter calls on Catholics to remember. "As Catholics, we must treat our political choices with appropriate moral gravity and in doing so, realize our continuing and unavoidable obligation to be a voice for the voiceless unborn, whose destruction by legal abortion is the pre-eminent intrinsic evil of our day. . ." According to the Catholic News Agency, Denver Archbishop Charles Chaput spoke as a private citizen to a group dedicated to promoting the “genius of women.” He emphasized that he was not speaking on behalf of “the Holy See, or the American bishops, or any other bishop, or even officially for the Archdiocese of Denver.” Chaput said, “I believe that Senator Obama, whatever his other talents, is the most committed ‘abortion-rights’ presidential candidate of either major party since the Roe v. Wade abortion decision in 1973.” He went on to say, “ . . .the party platform Senator Obama runs on this year is not only aggressively ‘pro-choice;’ it has also removed any suggestion that killing an unborn child might be a regrettable thing. On the question of homicide against the unborn child – and let’s remember that the great Lutheran pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer explicitly called abortion ‘murder’ – the Democratic platform that emerged from Denver in August 2008 is clearly anti-life.”
Archbishop Chaput suggested that his audience read Prof. Robert George’s essay “Obama’s Abortion Extremism,” published earlier this week at The Witherspoon Institute. Princeton University Professor Dr. George offers an explanation of a candidate for President of the United States abortion positions which he believes must be exposed and understood “at this crucial time.” Father John Corapi, SOLT has issued a call for a Rosary Novena between Oct. 27th and Election Day, Nov. 4th in hopes that Catholics will vote for candidates who will defend human life against the “holocaust” of abortion.

Don't Tax Me Bro"

Bill Smith, Editor: Like most Americans, I identify with Joe the Plumber who wants to work, invest, own and seek the American dream of being successful. But, we are faced with a government that wants to tax our success for working hard to support others who have settled for less - government handouts - and thus live off the labors of "us." I'm not talking about those who can't work or are temporarily down on their luck through no fault of their own. But I am tired of government people, like Sen. Barack Obama, who want to to take my money and then redistribute (give) my money to those who can work to provide for themselves and those under their care. I especially don't like their giving my money to those who made past mistakes, made poor decisions or are just plain are lazy and now want to avoid the consequences of their actions, laziness, mistakes or poor decisions. Also, have you noted that while taxing "us" for working, the government keeps their "operational cut" which tends to grow over time. I join Joe the Plumber is saying Don't tax me for working hard or for having worked hard to save for my family's future!

Biden Says Obama Will Be Tested With A ‘Major International Crisis’

H/T Kathy Morrison: Barack Obama will need help in a crisis, says Joe Biden from Times Online UK...
Joe Biden, the Democratic vice-presidential nominee, has told Americans to expect a “major international crisis” that will present an early test of a Barack Obama administration. His comments were seized upon by the Republican campaign yesterday to raise fresh doubts about the prepared-ness of Mr Obama to be commander-in-chief.

Speaking at a fundraiser in Seattle on Sunday night, Mr Biden said: “Mark my words, it will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We’re about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America. Remember I said it standing here . . . we’re gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy.”

He cited Russia and the Middle East as possible places that may cause problems, as well as the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan – “crawling with al-Qaeda” – as being of particular concern. Mr Obama would need help and support, Mr Biden suggested, “because it’s not gonna be apparent, initially, that we’re right.” He then spotted the media in the room, “I probably shouldn’t have said all this because it dawned on me that the press is here.”
Now why would anyone vote for Barack Obama when his own VP states that a vote for Obama is a vote for an international crisis? Why would anyone want to be a part of a ticket that one believes will lead the country to crisis? What an unbelievable statement. The only time a time camera falls on Senator Biden at this point is when he is trying to pull his foot out of his mouth. However, this is beyond a gaffe; this is disturbing. It appears Senator Biden sees Senator Obama as weak. It appears that Senator Biden, is not confident in Senator Obama's ability to handle a crisis, and it appears that Senator Biden would prefer a "major international crisis" that a Republican president.

Huckabee Invokes Obama Drug Use

H/T KY3 Political Notebook:
In an interview with KY3 News Monday, former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee said Barack Obama's admission of past drug use is a relevant issue in the campaign. "Can you tell me anybody that sorted out who it was that supplied Barack Obama the drugs that he claimed in his own book to have taken? No," said Huckabee when asked about what issues are relevant in the campaign. Huckabee goes on: "If Joe The Plumber's back taxes are relevant, a guy who's just playing football in his neighborhood, than everything is relevant."

Arkansas: Vote "For" Initiated Measure 1 - Protect Arkansas Children & Families

Arkansas - Vote "For" Initiated Measure 1
In Arkansas, election Day (Early Voting - Nov 4th) is upon us, and you have the opportunity to vote to protect adoptive and foster children in your great state. A vote “For” Initiated Measure 1 will ensure children a stable home and protect traditional family values in Arkansas.

The Arkansas Unmarried Couple Adoption Ban, Initiated Measure 1, would prevent unmarried, cohabitating couples, either heterosexual or homosexual, from adopting or housing a child of the foster care system. If passed, the measure will ensure that vulnerable children have the best chance of being placed in the stability and security of a married home.

Research shows that children raised in the refuge of a two parent, mother-father home perform the best in every important measure. Statistics also repeatedly show that cohabitating homes are among the most unstable environments for children.

The adoption and foster care systems have an imperative to make the best out of a terrible situation by providing children with the best possible home. Initiated Measure 1 would help agencies accomplish this task by prohibiting adoption or placement of children into unstable, cohabitating homes.

Things One Can Learn From Democrats

Update: It’s now on Drudge, too: VIDEO: Dem Chairman: 'There should be tax increases'
It’s always instructive to see the things one can learn from Democrats when they’re being candid. Appearing on CNBC yesterday, House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank (D-MA) said, “I think at this point, there needs to be a focus on an immediate increase in spending and I think this is a time when deficit fear has to take a second seat. I do think this is a time for a kind of very important dose of Keynesianism. I believe later on there should be tax increases. Speaking personally, I think there are a lot of very rich people out there whom we can tax at a point down the road and recover some of this money.”
Certainly, Frank’s honesty is appreciated. He’s done a superb job summarizing Democrats’ economic plans: spend more money, increase deficits, and then raise taxes. Remember Democrats claiming two years ago to be the party of fiscal responsibility and how so many of their congressional candidates called themselves “fiscal conservatives”? Apparently they don’t. Democrat leaders have been saying that they plan to have Congress return shortly after the election to consider a new economic stimulus package they’ve been pushing, to the tune of $100 billion, and possibly as much as $300 billion. That certainly covers the deficit spending component that Frank was talking about. The obvious question now is: by how much do they want to increase taxes?

Arkansas: Vote No on Amendment 3 - the State Lotteries Amendment

Protect Arkansas families
Arkansas - Vote NO on 3, the State Lotteries Amendment

In Arkansas, the State Lotteries Amendment would amend the Arkansas Constitution, which currently prohibits lotteries, to allow and establish state lotteries in Arkansas.

Supporters say that lottery proceeds would be used to create scholarships for students attending two-and four-year colleges. However, lotteries are a notoriously unstable and unreliable revenue source. Additionally, with lotteries every tax-paying Arkansan pays. Why? Because a high percentage of low-income people will gamble on the games, losing a good percentage of their income, increasing costs required to care for their families, and thereby increasing costs to taxpayers.

Since the state would own and operate the lotteries, the government's role would change from being the guardian of its weakest people to an economic predator on them. With government's insatiable appetite for more revenue, lottery gambling creates a serious and irreconcilable conflict of interest.

The gambling business alwa ys preys on those who can lease afford to lose, but the devastating effects on families as well as on poor and elderly citizens will be coupled with losses for Arkansas' overall economy. Lottery purchases will divert money away from legitimate businesses like restaurants, shops and other attractions, hurting small businesses and Arkansas' economy.

Political Monopoly Power

WALTER E. WILLIAMS — In 1804, each U.S. representative represented about 40,000 people. Today, each representative represents close to 700,000. If we lived up to the vision of our founders, given today's population, we would have about 7,500 congressmen in the House of Representatives. It turns out that in 1929, Congress passed a bill fixing the number of representatives at 435. Prior to that, the number of congressional districts was increased every 10 years, from 1790 to 1910, except one, after a population census was taken. We might ask what’s so sacrosanct about 435 representatives? . . . [P0litical Monopoly Power ]

NBRA: Barack Obama Disagrees With Colin Powell

The National Black Republican Association (NBRA) has released the following interesting press release today:
One the heels of General Colin Powell's surprising endorsement of Senator Barack Obama, a video was uncovered in which Obama makes the shocking confession that he, Obama, does not have the experience or qualifications to be president of the United States and, thus, the leader of the free world.

In spite of the efforts by the liberal media to denigrate Governor Sarah Palin, a comparison of the experiences of Obama with Palin shows that Palin is better qualified to be president than Obama. See comparison

McCain's Prospects Depend on Telling Truth About Obama

by Phyllis Schlafly: The media are piling on against John McCain and some pundits are predicting it's all over, that Barack Obama has somehow won the election. As the old saying goes, it's not over until the fat lady sings, and it's high time for the fat lady to sing about Obama's scary agenda and the many reasons why it is too risky to elect him President. We need to hear more about ACORN, the special-interest group that would like to steal this election by registering people who are not eligible to vote, such as registering ghost voters in Nevada under the names of the Dallas Cowboys. Obama's years of close association with ACORN need to be known to the public.

We should hear more about Obama's political friend William Ayers, the unrepentant bomber and Ward Churchill-type professor, who has a really scary plan to remake the curriculum of public schools in order to turn kids into radical socialists like himself. Obama helped deliver big bucks to Ayers' radical education project in Chicago. Obama has already introduced one
bill in the U.S. Senate called "Positive Behavior for Effective Schools Act," which would implement Ayers' social-outcome notions, and another to teach kindergartners Al Gore's propaganda about climate change. Voters should be reminded that Obama has called for making "sure your child can speak Spanish." We need to have further explanations of the hateful attitudes Obama expressed in his autobiography "Dreams from My Father." We need further investigation of author Jack Cashill's evidence that this book was actually ghost-written by William Ayers.

The media have carefully crafted the several presidential debates to avoid two issues that are helpful to John McCain and hurtful to Obama: immigration and abortion. Let's get those issues out on the table. Voters need to know that Obama favors giving driver's licenses to illegal aliens. This practice is so unpopular with the voters that it brought down the political career of New York's recent unlamented Governor Eliot Spitzer and caused the recall of California Governor Gray Davis.

The one debate where the abortion issue was discussed was at Saddleback Church where Obama revealed his unacceptable attitude with the stupid
statement that a discussion of the personhood of an unborn baby is above his pay grade. What's really above his pay grade is the job of U.S. President and Commander in Chief. Four-dollar gasoline at the pump and the need for energy independence by drilling for American oil could be the number-one issue in the 2008 election. It should be hammered home to the voters that McCain and Sarah Palin are on the right side of this issue and Obama is wrong.

American voters need to be told that the current financial crisis was caused by the liberal policies of men who are mostly Democrats. A September 30, 1999 news
article in the New York Times explained how Fannie Mae, under its then chairman and Clinton-appointee Franklin D. Raines, took on "significantly more risk" by demanding that the banks give sub-prime mortgages to low-income people who could not afford the houses they were buying. By the end of the Clinton Administration, 44 percent of the loans purchased by Fannie Mae were these risky mortgages. ACORN accelerated this practice by getting unemployed people to demonstrate in bank lobbies, demanding that more mortgages be given to people without adequate credit.

Good U.S. manufacturing jobs were moving overseas years before the current financial crunch. The Clinton Administration globalists, the policies of Clinton's Wall Street friends such as Robert Rubin, and the trade agreements that discriminate against American workers and products are all part of our current economic distress. The American people should be reminded that everything Barack Obama proposes will require higher taxes. Only tax reduction and the encouragement of good U.S. jobs will promote economic recovery, not tax increases or taxpayer bailouts of the billions lost by avoidable mistakes.

State amendments for traditional marriage are repeatedly adopted by the voters. The public should be reminded that Obama opposes these amendments and said he "respects" the outrageous California same-sex marriage decision. The Democratic Platform
adds, "We oppose the Defense of Marriage Act." DOMA is one of the most popular laws ever passed by Congress; it protects us from judges who try to force other states to accept the gay mischief of Massachusetts, California, and Connecticut.

The voters should be reminded that Barack Obama is promising all kinds of costly benefits to be paid for by the already burdened taxpayers, such as his
bill to implement "the U.S. Millennium Development Goals, which aim to cut extreme poverty in half by 2015" and "double" our annual spending for this goal. Voters, not polls or pundits, will decide this presidential election. It's time to make sure the voters have as much information as possible about the candidates.

Military for McCain

Vets4McCain.comIt turns out military service members support John McCain by a 3 to 1 margin over Barack Obama. Military Times poll: Troops backing McCain: In a Military Times survey of nearly 4,300 readers, Sen.. John McCain, R-AZ, handily defeated Sen. Barack Obama, D-IL, 68% to 23% in a voluntary survey of 4,293 active-duty, National Guard and reserve subscribers and former subscribers to Army Times, Navy Times, Marine Corps Times and Air Force Times.
“A lot of people thought that eight years of frustration with the Bush administration was going to undermine that,” he said. “This evidence suggests that it hasn’t undermined it as much as they thought, at least not yet.”

Officers and enlisted troops, active-duty members and reservists, those who have served in combat and those who haven’t, all backed McCain by large margins, to about the same extent they supported President Bush four years ago.

About 69 percent of respondents said they voted for Bush in 2004, while about 16 percent voted for the Democratic nominee, Sen. John Kerry. McCain’s majority wanes among women and disappears altogether among black respondents.
We need to make sure that the votes of our military count. Absentee ballots from many veterans in the past were not counted or considered properly in various elections. Everyone help in your area. Also, if you are willing to get upset with Newsweek and to write to Newsweek. IAVA, a liberal veterans organization, collaborated with Newsweek to fabricate an article about John McCain's record regarding the troops and veterans in Newsweek. Funny that Newsweek and other media has not reports about the Military Times Poll. Look for them to try and discredit the results.

No Disrespect Meant - But Think About It

Bill Smith, ARRA Editor: I received these first words from a reader and wondered how I could use them. Well this weekend's news provided the opportunity.
"Something to think about. Just a few points to ponder. Anyone who's gone through the Security Clearance procedures in the Military" (even Gen. Colin Powell), FBI, CIA, Secret Service or other agency requiring securing, processing and handing of classified information and documents "can verify that this is a valid point to ponder: If Barack Obama would apply for a job with the FBI or with the Secret Service, he would be disqualified because of his past association with William Ayers, a known terrorist. If he is elected President he would not qualify to be his own body guard!"
Kind of makes you wonder where General / Former Sec. of State Colin Powell's head was at when he endorsed Obama. Powell didn't resign his commission and therefore he is still responsible to his oath of office. Upon what valid basis did he support a person for Commander-in-Chief who may well have been disqualified for military service, etc. A man who used hard drugs which would not be waived for a commission as an officer. A man who has been associated in his past and present life with a former anarchist, shady Chicago back room deals, a black supremacist pastor, a communist mentor, and close family (blood) relatives and foreign leaders in an African country with ties to radicals and terrorists. It is beyond reasonable belief that one of our former popular Generals who served as a Republican leader and was sought by his party to consider running for president would now endorse Obama.

Obama's stated beliefs and principles are so diametrically different from those previously espoused by Powell. Also, Obama's actions and associations would not have been "becoming for a junior officer" under Powell's command. As a retired officer, I am still reeling from the above thoughts. Surely race could not have been a factor in Powell's decision. And yet, Powell related in his public endorsement that 'the prospect of Obama becoming the first African American president would 'electrify the world.'" More disturbing is the fact that Powell "expressed disappointment" of McCain's selection of a woman - Gov. Sarah Palin - to be his vice presidential running mate. In 2000, Powell campaigned for John McCain for President and may very well feel betrayed for not being selected for the VP nomination. One wonders at this late endorsement about Powell's feelings on a woman being selected over either Powell or another a person Powell would have approved of as VP. Powell calls Biden a good choice, when Biden and Powell were seldom on the same page on core issues or values.

Powell became a 4-star General, Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff, national Security advisor and Secretary of State under Republican Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and George W, Bush. Now this singular decision made by Powell to publicly influence voters for Obama over McCain, a fellow military man who "really served" his country, is almost too much to take-in. And the alleged reason for Powell's endorsement - McCain selected a woman for VP and Obama as a black president may electrify the world. Powell's decision left many feeling like the people must have felt when their "Knight" lost their "shining armour."

Yes, Powell has the right to vote and support whoever he wishes but now he joins the ranks of people like Wesley Clark, as empty suits seeking another moment of fame. My suggestion to all is "THINK, Before YOU VOTE!" The choice: Obama the young smooth talking inexperienced socialist who is also an anti-traditional family values advocate or McCain the older but scarred proven warrior who is the straight talking man who is a maverick by speaking the truth even within his own party. A maverick who chose a person - yes a woman - outside of Washington politics to help him stand firm for the American people against the onslaught of a Democrat controlled Senate and House led by an inept Harry Reid and the "beyond the pale" Nancy Pelosi. Again, "THINK -- THINK, Before YOU VOTE!"

Arkansas Companies Top List of America's Most Generous Corporations

Wal-MartForbes reported on America's Most Generous Corporations. Financial information was provided by The Chronicle of Philanthropy, a bi-weekly publication for the nonprofit community, which performs an annual survey of companies asking the nation's largest companies about their giving habits. The No. 1 most generous company overall was the Arkansas based Wal-Mart who through its Wal-Mart Stores, gave away $301 million in 2007, including total cash donations from the company foundation, and excluding free product and service offerings, otherwise called "in-kind" donations. Beneficiaries of Wal-Mart's goodwill include the Children's Miracle Network, America's Second Harvest, the Salvation Army, the American Red Cross, the United Way of America and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.

The second most proportionally generous company was the Arkansas based Tyson Foods gave 1.6% of its operating income, or $8 million, to charities including Meals on Wheels and the Ronald McDonald House.

What To Do About Dwayne Dobbins?

by David Kinkade, Arkansas Project Project: Former Democratic Rep. Dwayne Dobbins says “never surrender” in his quest to return to the Arkansas legislature, asking a judge to restore him to the ballot so that the voters of District 39 can have the privilege of casting their votes for him in November. But sez the judge: “Ain’t gonna happen.” The AP reports.

Keep in mind this comes after Dobbins’ 2005 resignation from his seat in the legislature as part of his plea bargain after being arrested for fondling a 17-year-old girl…after Democrats tried to find a candidate to run against him following his surprise filing to run again in March…after Democrats voted not to certify him for the ballot in July….after the Arkansas House of Representatives passed the “Dobbins Rule” in August to bar him from being seated should he win re-election… and after Attorney General Dustin McDaniel this week asked the judge to reject Dobbins’ ballot request, saying he’d waited too long to register his complaint through legal channels. And yet…he… keeps…coming…back. . . . [Interesting & funny Arkansas Project Opinion Poll on getting rid of Dobbins]

Analysis of McCain, Obama Tax & Health Care Plans

Robert Bluey, The Heritage Foundation Our Center for Data Analysis has a very detailed report (with several charts) looking the McCain and Obama tax proposals. Here are some of the highlights:

The Obama and McCain Tax Plans: How Do They Compare?
    1) Job growth over the 10-year forecast horizon is more than twice as high under McCain's plan than under Obama's. Total employment grows an average of 915,800 jobs under Obama, and by 2,126,000 under McCain.
    2) Increases in gross domestic product (GDP) under McCain are nearly three times higher than under Obama.
    3) A family of four will have an average of $5,138 more in disposable income under McCain's plan, and $3,631 more under Obama's.

On health care, we have reports on each candidate’s plan:
The Obama Health Care Plan: More Power to Washington
Very little in the Obama health plan is new or original. A number of its policy initiatives are recycled from the ill-fated Clinton health plan of 1994 and the Kerry health plan of 2004 and bear a stark resemblance to a more detailed proposal by the Common wealth Fund, a prominent liberal think tank. In general, the Obama plan would give the federal government even more control of health care dollars and decisions—a radical departure from the decentralized decision-making system that characterizes employer-based insurance and state-based insurance regulation.

The McCain Health Care Plan: More Power to Families
McCain's vision for health care reform is underscored by a principled commitment to personal freedom. He focuses on reforming the system to empower individuals and families to make health care decisions and to control their health care dollars.
