Left-wing Intolerance, Kamala In Command, Media Bias

Gary Bauer
by Gary Bauer: Left-wing Intolerance
For basketball fans, it's March Madness time. And the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles are on a roll at the NCAA tournament. The Number 15 seed Golden Eagles have knocked out Number 2 Ohio State and the Number 7 seed Florida Gators.

But not everyone is happy about the stunning success of the Golden Eagles, and I don't mean just Ohio State and Florida fans.

USA Today's Race and Inclusion Editor Hemal Jhaveri wrote an editorial Tuesday suggesting that Oral Roberts should not be allowed to participate in the NCAA tournament because its players adhere to traditional Christians values.

Students voluntarily attend Oral Roberts University. But Jhaveri is upset that they pledge to maintain certain standards of personal conduct one might expect from a Christian school. She accused the school, and by extension the basketball team, of being bigots and against the values of the NCAA. By the way, 11 of the 16 players on the team are young men of color.

Now, we know what the NCAA's values are. We've seen the NCAA abuse its power to intimidate states from passing laws to protect religious liberty.

My friends, it's the USA Today editorial that is bigoted and intolerant. And you don't have to be a sports fan to understand the threat it represents to all Christians.

If Christian basketball players can't take part in an NCAA tournament because their views are "wildly out of line with modern society," as Jhaveri put it, then why should evangelical Christians be allowed to manage your bank? Teach at your school? Be a lawyer in our courts? Or a representative in Congress?

I have been warning Christians for decades that the left's mantra of tolerance, which it uses to seduce young Christians, is nothing but a Trojan horse. The left is increasingly intolerant of traditional Christian values, and its goal is to drive us out of the public square and into the closet.

For years the left insisted, "You can't legislate morality." Well, the left is doing exactly that – forcing its morality on us!

No society has neutrality as its leading value. Every society stands for something. Communist China stands for the values of Karl Marx and Chairman Mao. Iran stands for the values of the ayatollah and his version of Islam.

America was built on Judeo-Christian values. But now radical secularists, in the name of tolerance and inclusion, are arguing that Christian basketball players should be excluded from college sports.

Men and women of faith must wake up and defend their rights, while they still can.

Kamala In Command
The Biden Administration is desperate to appear serious about the border crisis, a crisis they created. As we have noted before, they did this intentionally. They intend for millions of illegal immigrants to enter the country. They just want to do it in a way that doesn't cause a political backlash.

But if you have any doubts that this is intentional, just look at yesterday's big White House announcement. President Biden appointed Vice President Kamala Harris as his border czar. Supposedly, her experience as the top law enforcement official of California played a major role in the decision.

Well, if your goal is open borders, then nobody is more qualified to handle that program than Kamala Harris. Yes, Harris was attorney general of California, a state full of sanctuary cities and a sanctuary state itself. And Harris is all in when it comes to protecting illegal aliens from law enforcement.

Demoralization among the Border Patrol and ICE is sky-high. Many agents are expected to retire, and the government may not be able to fill their jobs. That demoralization is a way to effectively abolish ICE, just like the left's demonizing of police, leading many officers to quit or retire early, is a way to effectively defund the police.

Well, Harris, who is now in charge of the border, has compared our brave immigration enforcement agents to the KKK. What do you think the child of an ICE agent must feel when she learns about the KKK in school and learns that the vice president of the United States compared her father or mother to the KKK?

The Boulder Jihad
Boulder mass murderer Ahmad Alissa had his first court appearance today. The judge ordered him to be held without bail. His defense attorney requested a psychiatric evaluation based on claims that he is mentally ill. While Alissa currently faces 10 counts of first-degree murder, prosecutors indicated that they plan to file additional charges.

Obviously, we don't know yet what those charges could be, but there is plenty of evidence to suspect this was an anti-Semitic hate crime. Let's review what we know.
  • Alissa condemned America as a racist and Islamophobic country.
  • His family is from Syria, one of the most anti-Semitic countries in the Middle East.
  • He drove more than 20 miles from his home in Arvada to Boulder in order to attack the King Soopers store. That strongly suggests it wasn't a random attack, but a planned attack.
  • Why King Soopers? It advertises itself as a "one-stop shop for Kosher groceries."
  • The Boulder Jewish community thought of King Soopers as "our grocery store."
  • Passover starts this week.
Media Bias
I know this won't come as a big surprise to anyone, but the America media's coverage of the coronavirus pandemic was incredibly biased and negative. That's not just my opinion, but the findings of a major study that surveyed global media outlets and compared the coverage of COVID-related stories around the world.

How bad was it? According to the analysis:
  • 51% of international media presented a negative tone in their coverage of the virus.
  • 53% of the coverage in regional U.S. media (your local paper) was negative.
  • 64% of reports in scientific journals was negative.
  • But 87% of the pandemic coverage in national U.S. outlets (think the Big Media networks, CNN and the New York Times) was negative.
Interestingly, it began to change right around the time that Pfizer announced its vaccine was 90% effective, which was less than a week after the 2020 election.

But why would the American media have such a dire outlook on everything? Well, in addition to the coronavirus pandemic, we also had another pandemic running rampant in America, and it was especially prevalent in major media newsrooms – Trump Derangement Syndrome.

In order to damage and defeat Donald Trump, the American media (the propaganda arm of the Democrat Party) had to make the news about the pandemic as terrible as possible. It worked. Progressive mayors and governors used the horrible headlines to justify shutting down their economies and locking up the residents of their cities and states.

But even now, the media still can't change course entirely because it's too early for Biden to take credit for anything. All he's doing is pushing out the vaccines that Donald Trump and Mike Pence developed!

Biden's Press Conference
After taking more than a week to prepare, President Biden finally gave his first formal press conference and took questions from the media. It was difficult to watch.

The media spin was happening in the room, as reporters did their best to pitch softballs to Biden. Nevertheless, he whiffed many. He seemed confused and befuddled, and often fumbled for his notes.

But the "nice guy" Joe Biden couldn't help taking a cheap shot or two. Asked about the border crisis, he said that no president would ever let poor migrant children starve in the desert, other than Donald Trump.

That's a disgusting lie, especially from a guy who claims he wants to unite the country.

But there was something else that I found particularly jarring during the exchanges on immigration. There was no one in that room speaking for the average American taxpayer who will be significantly impacted by the influx of hundreds of thousands of undereducated, low-skilled workers.

Debunking 6 Myths About the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act

by Adam Michel: Congress passed a $1.5 trillion tax cut and reform package in December 2017 that became the subject of heated, partisan attacks. Now, more than three years later, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is the subject of countless lingering mischaracterizations that fuel a push in Congress to repeal parts of the law.

Setting the record straight for lawmakers and the American people is crucial to ensuring Congress keeps taxes low and makes permanent the reforms of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

Reversing the 2017 tax cuts not only would raise Americans’ taxes but make the economic recovery from COVID-19 more challenging by increasing the cost of building back a strong labor market.

Here are six of the most common myths addressed in a recent Heritage Foundation report and why they’re wrong.

Myth No. 1: The tax cuts benefited corporations, not working Americans or the economy.

The most important legacy of the tax cuts is their benefits for working Americans. Following the reform, which included significant tax cuts for businesses, the labor market improved markedly.

Wage growth increased by more than a percentage point in the two subsequent years, resulting in annual wages of more than $1,400 above trend for production and nonsupervisory workers.

New job openings also surged in 2018, the year following the tax cuts, and about 83,000 more Americans voluntarily left their jobs for better opportunities at the end of 2019 compared to the trend before the reform.

Census Bureau data also show that real household income reached an all-time high in 2019, growing by $4,400 (a one-year increase of 6.8%).

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act also was the most significant reform to many parts of the tax code in 30 years—since President Ronald Reagan’s 1986 tax reform. Then the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act made it easier for millions of Americans to pay their taxes, simplified family benefits, and overhauled the international tax system, among many other reforms.

Myth No. 2: It was a tax bill only for the rich, so most Americans didn’t get a tax cut.

Many Americans believe they are not benefiting from the tax cuts because it was reported widely that the reform primarily benefited corporations and the wealthy. This narrative is incorrect.

The individual tax cuts benefited more than 80% of Americans, and fewer than 5% of taxpayers were projected to see a tax increase in 2018. In the $1.5 trillion tax bill, more than three-quarters of the total tax cut was for individual taxpayers.

IRS data confirms that Americans in every income group benefited from lower effective tax rates. Average effective tax rates declined by 9.3% (about 1.4 percentage points) in 2018.

The tax cuts as a percentage of taxes paid in 2017 were largest for the lowest-income Americans and smallest for the top 1%, meaning high-income Americans now pay a larger share of income taxes than they did before the tax cuts.

Myth No. 3: The SALT cap increased taxes on the middle class.

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act also included a $10,000 cap on the deduction for state and local taxes (dubbed SALT), which is available to taxpayers who choose to itemize their tax deductions—instead of selecting the now larger standard deduction.

Democrats and a few Republicans have decried how the new cap harms middle-class families. However, lower tax rates, a larger standard deduction, and changes to the alternative minimum tax offset the changes and mean that few taxpayers saw overall net tax increases.

The cap was a necessary reform to level the playing field between high-tax states and low-tax states. Among the high-income Americans who benefit from this deduction, an average millionaire living in New York or California deducted more than $450,000 worth of state and local taxes before the cap. In comparison, an average millionaire in Texas deducted only $50,000 and therefore paid close to $180,000 more per year in federal taxes, simply for living in Texas.

Repealing the SALT cap would reinstate a tax subsidy used almost exclusively by high-income taxpayers and would benefit politicians in high-tax states at the expense of taxpayers around the country.

Myth No. 4: The new 21% corporate tax rate is too low.

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act permanently lowered the federal corporate income tax rate to 21% in 2018, down from a high of 35%.

A key campaign pledge made by then-candidate Joe Biden and congressional Democrats in 2020 was to raise the corporate tax rate to 28%.

Even at 21%, American businesses pay combined state and federal corporate tax rates similar to companies in our peer countries.

Raising the corporate tax rate to 28% would hurt U.S. competitiveness and make America a global leader again in punitive business tax rates.

Myth No. 5: The tax cut pays for itself.

Former President Donald Trump and administration officials often claimed that tax reform would pay for itself. This claim was misleading and distracted from the real purpose of the reform.

The purpose of cutting taxes is to allow Americans to keep more of their hard-earned money, not maximize revenue for the Treasury. If Congress can responsibly reduce spending, lower revenues should be the goal of tax cuts.

The tax cuts increased the size of the economy, but not by enough to recoup all the lost revenue before the law expires.

Myth No. 6: The tax cuts caused the federal budget deficit.

Democrats and many Republicans rightly worried that the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act would contribute unnecessarily to the national debt. However, claims that the tax cuts are responsible for the federal government’s poor fiscal health are a misdiagnosis of trends that are decades in the making.

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act did increase the budget deficit, but the law is not the underlying cause of the unsustainable U.S. budget. The systemic gap between revenues and expenditures is driven by sustained growth in mandatory spending programs since the 1970s.

Repealing the 2017 tax cuts would not change the trajectory of increasing federal budget deficits. The tax cuts (even if made permanent) represent only about 16% of the pre-pandemic budget deficit, and one year’s projected deficit in 2030 is larger than the entire 10-year cost of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act as passed.

The 2017 tax cuts represented critical structural reforms to the U.S. tax code that will need to be made permanent in the coming years. Setting the record straight on the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is crucial to ensuring Congress chooses to keep taxes low and make the 2017 reforms permanent.

Reversing the tax cuts based on a mischaracterization of the true effects would make the economic recovery from COVID-19 much more challenging by increasing costs for American businesses and families.

All Men (even white) are Created Equal

U.S Senator Tom Cotton (AR)
by Dr. Kathleen Brush
: Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton is proposing a bill called Combatting Racist Training in the Military Act. He begins by citing that in America all men are created equal. He goes on to talk about equal dignity and protection for all people under the law. He calls for bans on teaching that some races are inherently inferior and that America is an inherently racist nation. If this was 1865 or even 1964 you might think this was written by and for black people. But Tom is white, and he is addressing training in the military that teaches whites and America are fundamentally flawed racists.

The training is based on Critical Race Theory (CRT) as are most government decisions today. Introduced in 1989, CRT is anti-American and anti-white. It is a conspiracy theory advancing that whites are obsessed with maintaining a superior position in society to ensure the inferiority of non-whites. It has strong ties to Marxism. As a conspiracy theory, it makes QAnon look like a featherweight.

CRT is used to predict and explain racism. Explaining and predicting is something all tested theories can do. The problem with CRT is that it is not tested. The validation of CRT is done by telling selected stories of white oppression. We are a nation that believes in science, but not when it comes to this extremely important subject. But the uber stories in America disprove CRT.

If whites are ensuring the inferiority of non-whites, why are Asian-Americans the most educated and prosperous ethnic group in America? How could Latino GDP be higher than every Latino nation, including Brazil with three times the population? How could blacks be the most educated and prosperous black population in the world? How could there be a black and Asian female vice president, 137 current people of color in Congress, and blacks disproportionately running America’s 100 largest American cities? Why are there more impoverished white people than blacks, Latinos, or Asians? Because CRT is a canard. In history, it may have explained some behaviors much as analog theories for Chinese, Russian, Muslim, Arab, and the Ashanti would.

These analog theories may still have applicability because most nations don’t even pretend to see equality as a goal. Discrimination is seen as a useful way to order society. America is at the other extreme. American military power (87% white) was essential to ending white supremacy in the world after 1945 and to secure commitments from all nations to end discrimination. White Americans in 1964 uniquely voluntarily gave up their lock on power and supported the rise of a diverse equality-oriented leading anti-racist nation.

It seems improbable that Cotton’s bill could be necessary. But American politics are engaged in a dangerous duplicitous game. There is a pretension of an obsession with ending racism, while it stokes it every day against white Americans. Can you imagine a fighting force of disunited soldiers? The Chinese, Russians, and Iranians are lapping this up. The world no longer sees America as a superpower. They see a racist pariah. In discussions with China last week in Alaska, Blinken tried to chastise China for human rights abuses. The Chinese scoffed, pointing to an epidemic of gunning down black Americans in the street and violence against Asians. They must watch CNN and MSNBC too.

Cotton’s proposal should be something all Americans, left, right and center should agree on, and not just in the military.

Crypto Currency and NFTs: The Market Yet Again Says Digital Property Is Property

Ask Cryptocurrency Holders If ‘Stealing
Isn’t Stealing’ Because It’s Digital

by Seton Motley: Get a load of this harmonic convergence example of modern market forces at work….

Beeple’s $69 Million NFT Art Sold to Founder of Crypto Fund Metapurse:

“Christie’s said that a cryptocurrency investor based in Singapore called Metakovan won Beeple’s $69 million digital collage at auction—a sale that smashed records in markets for both art and non-fungible tokens, or NFTs.”
This is digital coin – a LOT of digital coin – purchasing digital art.

This is a landmark moment in the evolution of our economy – and the re-acknowledgement of the import of Intellectual Property (IP).

Let’s first define some terms.

You may be familiar with cryptocurrency:“A digital currency in which encryption techniques are used to regulate the generation of units of currency and verify the transfer of funds, operating independently of a central bank.”How about Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs)?:“A unit of data on a digital ledger called a blockchain, where each NFT can represent a unique digital item, and thus they are not interchangeable. NFTs can represent digital files such as art, audio, videos, items in video games and other forms of creative work.

“While the digital files themselves are infinitely reproducible, the NFTs representing them are tracked on their underlying blockchains and provide buyers with proof of ownership.”
Cryptocurrency is encrypted “to regulate the generation of units of currency.” Absolutely. We don’t allow the counterfeiting of hard currency – because it damages its value. Ditto digital coin.

NFTs are a way to protect the creation of digital IP. “The digital files themselves are infinitely reproducible” – like with cryptocurrency. But like with cryptocurrency – mass reproduction damages value.

NFTs is the marketplace beginning to course-correct – after the IP thieves’ long heyday of digital heists.

NFTs deal directly with what has long been IP thieves’ absurd defense of their electronic larceny….Piracy Is NOT Theft: Problems of a Nonsense Metaphor

Illegal File Sharing Isn’t ‘Stealing’: Here’s Why

When Stealing Isn’t Stealing:

“If Cyber Bob illegally downloads Digital Joe’s song from the Internet, it’s crucial to recognize that, in most cases, Joe hasn’t lost anything. Yes, one might try to argue that people who use intellectual property without paying for it steal the money they would have owed had they bought it lawfully.

“But there are two basic problems with this contention. First, we ordinarily can’t know whether the downloader would have paid the purchase price had he not misappropriated the property. Second, the argument assumes the conclusion that is being argued for – that it is theft.”
There are two basic problems with the IP thieves’ contentions with our contention.

First, it doesn’t matter whether or not the thief would have paid the purchase price for their digital heists. We can guess most car thieves can’t afford to pay the going rates for the Mercedes and Porsches they steal. But that is totally irrelevant to our acknowledging that their thievery is wrong – and prosecuting them for it.

Which means: Second, of COURSE digital theft is theft. If something is for sale – and you obtain it without paying for it – of COURSE it is theft. Because duh.

IP thieves are probably just making a semantic “this isn’t theft” argument. Because the pre-digital definition of “theft” refers exclusively to physical property.

Which is intellectual and moral feebleness of the absolute highest order.

Because as we long ago noted….Just Because It’s Easier to Steal – Doesn’t Mean It Isn’t StealingTo show how even the Digital Titans are acknowledging these very obvious realities – we’ll close with this….Jack Dorsey’s First Tweet Sells as an NFT for $2.9 Million:

“Dorsey said he would convert the winning bid into bitcoin and donate it to the charity GiveDirectly’s Africa Response.”
Full circle, Ladies and Gentlemen.

The Nature of Chinese Contempt for Us

Victor Davis Hanson
by Victor Davis Hanson
: Last week in Anchorage, Alaska, Chinese diplomats dressed down Biden Administration Secretary of State Antony Blinken and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan. Both seem stunned by the Chinese broadsides.

Apparently, as elite Americans readily confess to inherent white supremacy and racism—highlighting the complaints of BLM and Antifa—the Chinese are happy to agree that such admittedly toxic Americans should not dare to criticize China’s racist policies.

Not since newly elected President John Kennedy was humiliated at the Cold War Vienna summit in June 1961 by USSR strongman Nikita Khrushchev have American diplomats been so roughly manhandled by a Communist government.

China’s defiant provocations are not just verbal. Nor are they aimed only at our high officials.

New York University students, at an overseas satellite Shanghai China campus, were manhandled and jailed by Chinese authorities. Not long ago U.S. diplomats in China were subject to Chinese COVID-19 anal swab testing—supposedly “in error.”

These examples of continued humiliation and harassment could be multiplied. Yet they are simply the current public face of China’s insidious and systematic theft of U.S. patents and copyrights. It brazenly violates trade agreements, as well as manipulates its currency, dumps products below cost on world markets, cyber-assaults, expropriates Western technology, and stonewalls accurate information on the origins of COVID-19.

If China gives out money, it logically believes it owns the recipient. New York University in the last five years has received some $47 million in Communist Chinese-affiliated gifts. So Beijing apparently believes that it now “owns” NYU, and can send any message it likes to its clients.

Stanford University recently was cited by the U.S. Department of Education for failing to report over $64 million from Chinese sources since 2010. No surprise that China, in a demonstration of their contempt, recently sent a visiting researcher to Stanford, who turned out to be connected with the Chinese military.

Hollywood claims that it is woke. But recently it was disclosed that some directors had selected their actors on the basis of skin color. They were obeying China’s requirements for American films to enter the lucrative Chinese film market, slated to become the world’s largest in 2021.

The NBA—both players and coaches—loudly condemns their supposedly racist American homeland. Yet they self-censor any criticism of massive human rights violations by the Chinese communists—given a $5 billion NBA Chinese market.

Lots of countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Europe have signed up with the Chinese “Belt and Road” initiative to develop ports, harbors, rail, and freeways. They are now rereading the contractual fine print. Chinese multibillion dollar investments do not come without strings. The price of borrowing from China is tough terms of repayment and political subservience.

China is also the world’s greatest and most effective propagandist. Its intelligence services and disinformation efforts make the Cold War effort of the communist Soviet Union seem amateurish in comparison. China’s third of a million students who attend American universities and annual 3 million tourists to the United States soak up and master American popular culture.

As dutiful communist subjects, many are attuned to the self-loathing apparent in American universities, corporations, entertainment, and the media. In reaction, some seek to master and manipulate that sentiment in various ways and to China’s benefit.

China may have destroyed the culture of Tibet, destroyed democracy in Hong Kong, put Muslim minorities in detention camps, and systematically discriminated against African visitors, but the victimizer nonetheless plays the “victim” of American “racism.”

At best, its failed containment of the COVID-19 pandemic was criminally negligent. At worst, it was a hostile act. Yet each time China hears prominent Americans damn the United States as racist, Chinese racists chime in “Amen!”

China welcomes U.S. self-loathing that it interprets as weakness and decadence to be exploited—not as self-reflection to be admired, much less emulated.

In Chinese zero-sum thinking, if elite Americans themselves admit to systemic racism, sexism, and nativism, then they have already done most of the work for Chinese propagandists. China merely recycles such domestic charges to prove that a pathological America has no right to allege others to be racists—as it bullies neighbors with boasts that a dissolute and divided United States is in decline and cannot be counted as a reliable ally.

China is in a race to achieve global hegemony. For a while longer, it seeks sympathetic world opinion—at least until it has achieved unquestioned superior military and economic power.

So for now, China feigns victimhood. And it seeks solidarity with others inside the United States and abroad who claim to be fellow victims of American racism.

Such naked artifice and hypocrisy may seem crazy, given China’s atrocious human rights record. But China views our own exploding budget deficits, staggering national debt, open borders, disingenuous “1619 Project,” the violence of the summer riots, and the epidemic of race-based reeducation workshops as all far crazier—and most welcome supplements to their efforts.

No Vietnamese Need Apply

Joe Biden’s politically motivated hypocrisy on immigration.
by Joseph Hippolito: Nearly half a century before igniting the current border crisis, Joe Biden tried to keep another group of immigrants out of the United States.

As Delaware's junior Senator in 1975, the future virtual president opposed allocating federal money to help refugees from Vietnam and Cambodia establish new lives after their homelands fell to Communist insurgents.

Biden was not alone. Other Democrats opposed such mass resettlement. Among them was California Gov. Jerry Brown, who even tried to forbid aircraft filled with refugees from landing at Travis Air Force Base near San Francisco.

Also among those Democrats was South Dakota Sen. George McGovern, who insisted that American troops leave South Vietnam. As his party's Presidential nominee in 1972, McGovern lost to incumbent President Richard Nixon in one of the biggest landslides in national history.

In 1975, McGovern said during a lecture: “Ninety per cent of the refugees would be better off going back to their own land ... The Communist government has already given orders that the people are not to be molested ... Our program should include the highest priority steps to facilitate their early return to Vietnam."

But Biden's opposition became conspicuous by its unwavering tenacity.

That tenacity began days before the Communists conquered both South Vietnam and Cambodia. On April 14, Biden joined his fellow members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in a meeting with President Gerald Ford, Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and Defense Secretary James Schlesinger at the White House.

Though Ford had asked for $722 million in military aid to South Vietnam, discussion quickly shifted to evacuating both Americans and South Vietnamese. Kissinger promptly outlined the logistical complexity.

"The total list of the people endangered in Vietnam is over a million," he said. "The irreducible list is 174,000. This doesn't mean we could get them out; it would be just those in overwhelming jeopardy."

As discussion continued, Biden concentrated on evacuating Americans.

"We should focus on getting them out," Biden said. "Getting the Vietnamese out and military aid for the GVN (South Vietnamese government) are totally different."

Kissinger replied that plans to evacuate Americans were "in pretty good shape" but added that the United States has "an obligation" to help the Vietnamese. "This is infinitely more complicated and large-scale," Kissinger said.

"I will vote for any amount for getting the Americans out," Biden responded. "I don't want it mixed with getting the Vietnamese out."

When Pennsylvania Sen. Hugh Scott, the chamber's minority leader, suggested discussing specific amounts, Biden replied, "I don't want to commit myself to any precise number. How much money depends on how many we try to get out."

Unlike his fellow Senators, most of whom wanted to end American military involvement, Biden offered no concrete suggestions or hypothetical scenarios. He merely reiterated his opposition to funding the evacuation of Vietnamese.

Three days after the meeting, the Khmer Rouge conquered Cambodia. Pol Pot, the Khmer Rouge's leader, immediately implemented the genocidal policies that killed between one million and three million of his countrymen. Meanwhile, the North Vietnamese were rapidly descending on Saigon, South Vietnam's capital.

Yet the exponentially deteriorating situation failed to sway Biden. When Kissinger appeared as a witness during committee hearings on Ford's proposal, Biden told him the White House "had not informed Congress adequately about the number of refugees to be brought here." the New York Times reported. Publicly, Biden insisted that the United States has "no obligation, moral or otherwise, to evacuate foreign nationals," and that “the United States has no obligation to evacuate one -- or 100,001 -- South Vietnamese,” he said.

Nevertheless, 14 of the committee's 17 members recommended that the Senate support the appropriation for humanitarian aid. Biden was one of the three opposing it. On April 25, Biden became one of 18 Senators to oppose the bill, which passed, 55-18.

Five days later, the Vietnam War ended when the Communists captured Saigon. Biden's ensuing political behavior could only be described as surreal.

On May 8, Biden joined 91 other Senators supporting a resolution welcoming South Vietnamese and Cambodian refugees to the United States. Eight days later, however, Biden abstained on three different votes concerning financial support for those refugees -- including the actual bill for $405 million to be delivered by June 30, the end of the fiscal year.

Why did Biden oppose immigration from South Vietnam and Cambodia nearly 50 years ago? Perhaps he, like other Democrats, feared the creation of a pro-Republican voting base; Cuban refugees who escaped Fidel Castro built just that in Florida. Why does Biden support unlimited immigration from Latin America now? Perhaps he, like other Democrats, hope to expand the party’s own voting base.

Despite Congressional appropriations, however, thousands of Vietnamese, Cambodians and Laotians had to cross the Pacific Ocean on unsafe, even rickety, boats. They faced starvation, dehydration, illness and piracy. They would be nicknamed, "the boat people."

Nearly half a century after Biden's anti-immigrant activism, Vietnamese still remember.

"My Mom and my Dad were refugees from the war," wrote someone called SecondGen. "They had worked closely supporting the cause against Communism. It is horrible what they had to go through. They will never forget that Biden did not want the Vietnamese to come to America. He wanted to close out Camp Pendleton and offer zero support to Vietnamese people. The Vietnamese people who lived through this remember this time clearly and the impact his decisions made. It’s too bad that the media is trying to spin the truth."

"My wife and then 2 years old daughter were among the first Vietnamese who fled Saigon," wrote Phung Ngo. "We arrived at Guam on 4/24/1975 and CONUS (the continental United States) on May 1st, 1975 as evacuees instead of refugees because, now I learn, Joe Biden refused to accept us. Many members of our greater family including my father and brother were 're-educated' because they were not lucky to escape as we. Many others were executed or died in the last few battles. All to get away from the Communists, Socialists or Marxists, whatever you call them."

Those commenters responded to an article from the left-wing blog Daily Kos that criticized Biden's stance at the time. The author, Stephen Fox, volunteered to help refugees living temporarily at Camp Pendleton, a Marine base north of San Diego.

"Egregious memories of then-Senator Joe Biden's staunch opposition to desegregation and busing still disturb me, but worse was his hostility towards helping Vietnamese war refugees after that war," Fox wrote. "I spent a lot of time just after the fall of Saigon as a volunteer helping Vietnamese refugees living in a tent city at Camp Pendleton Marine Base, to determine where in the United States they could move to.

"The State Department, Red Cross, and airlines were all there to help; I helped because I was asked to do so by an eminent Vietnamese Buddhist in L.A. (Los Angeles), Dr. Thich Thien-An, and because I spoke French via a French-Vietnamese translator, in order to help those bewildered people. Why? Because no one else would.

"President Gerald Ford evacuated thousands of families who had worked with U.S. troops during that infernal war, but the arch Senate spokesman, the leading voice in the Senate opposing this rescue effort. was Joe Biden. (bold in original)"

Monica Showalter, <writing in American Thinker, described living with these refugees in suburban San Diego before paying Biden the ultimate insult.

"They were wonderful people, the world's most desirable immigrants, people who shared our values, showed us what industry was, and delighted us with their everyday ao dais (long gowns) and Vietnamese groceries and restaurants," she wrote. "These Southeast Asian refugees impressed us in school, coming in with no language skills and assimilating quickly anyway. In short, they were real refugees who had sided with us and proved their loyalty by paying a price. As Americans here, we cared about them.

"And Biden was one of the few, the very few, the distant few, who wanted to leave them in the water with the pirates."

Biden's Border Catastrophe

A disaster getting worse by the day.
by Joseph Klein: The hordes of migrants trying to enter the United States by hook or crook regard Joe Biden as their president. Weeks after Biden’s inauguration, for example, migrants were spotted flying a Biden presidential campaign flag at a migrant camp of would-be asylum seekers on the Mexican side of the U.S.-Mexico border. The migrants waiting to be admitted to the United States to begin their asylum application process know that their stay in Mexico is coming to an end after Biden recklessly eliminated the Trump administration’s successful “Remain in Mexico” policy. Migrant families and unaccompanied minors who have crossed the border illegally also have much to thank Biden for. So do the smugglers making millions of dollars in human trafficking.

No wonder Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador in early March called Biden “the migrant president,” which he did not intend as a compliment. During a March 23rd press conference, Mexico’s president elaborated. "Expectations were created that with the Government of President Biden there would be a better treatment of migrants,” he said. “And this has caused Central American migrants, and also from our country, wanting to cross the border thinking that it is easier to do so."

After the Biden administration re-instituted the catch and release policy that had been ended by the Trump administration, migrant families apprehended after illegally entering the United States have been quickly released. They are free to remain in this country without even being issued a court appearance date.

“This is insane, it is another pull factor that will overwhelm us,” a senior-level law enforcement source with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in the Rio Grande Valley told Breitbart. “We are creating another entirely different class of aliens we will have to deal with years from now. We will never find most of these aliens once they are released.”

Some of those claiming to be families consist of children with smugglers posing as their parents. In any case, whether real or not, all families apprehended after illegally entering the United States should have been immediately turned away because of the coronavirus pandemic. The Biden administration has the emergency legal authority to do so. However, according to Axios, there is data showing that “an average of just 13% of nearly 13,000 family members attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border were returned to Mexico between March 14 and March 21 using the public health order, which essentially says the U.S. can close the border to nonessential travel because of the coronavirus.”

To make matters worse, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has confirmed that there have been “instances” when aliens who crossed our border illegally were released without testing them for the coronavirus. There were cases in which illegal aliens who had tested positive were nevertheless released into U.S. communities.

Mayorkas’s claim that the Biden administration has “closed” the border with Mexico to migrant families is a preposterous lie. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki repeated this lie at her March 22nd press briefing.

All of this is happening as thousands of unaccompanied minors who cross the border illegally are being welcomed with open arms by the Biden administration. The administration was completely unprepared for the chaos that has followed. As of mid-March, more than 13,000 unaccompanied minors were reportedly in U.S. custody, overwhelming CBP resources. There is not enough space to house them temporarily in Border Patrol facilities until they can be safely transferred to facilities operated by the better equipped Department of Health and Human Services. The situation is so bad that the minors are being crammed together in ramshackle quarters, in numbers way beyond their stated capacity limits, with no regard to the risk of coronavirus spread. The minors lie on floor mats with a foil sheet for covers.

According ABC News, internal CBP documents it obtained show there are now 3,889 migrants in a holding facility in Donna, Texas that is meant to hold just 250. “That means it is currently at 1,556% capacity.”

The Biden administration has prohibited journalists from visiting or photographing where these minors, who shouldn’t be in the U.S. in the first place, are being held. The administration is covering up the shocking extent of the humanitarian and health crisis it has created. A prominent photojournalist, John Moore, tweeted: “I respectfully ask US Customs and Border Protection to stop blocking media access to their border operations. I have photographed CBP under Bush, Obama and Trump but now - zero access is granted to media.”

In response to repeated media requests for such access, all that the White House would say is that it is “working to finalize details” of a plan to allow some press access.

Biden administration officials continue to refuse to even acknowledge that there is a crisis. The administration remains in full spin mode. Psaki, for example, claimed that “children presenting at our border who are fleeing violence … who are fleeing terrible situations, is not a crisis.”

Yes, there are horrible economic conditions and violence in Central America, which parents want their children to escape. But it is a crisis when such desperate Central American parents are encouraged enough by Biden’s undoing of the Trump administration’s strict immigration policies to put their children in the hands of dangerous smugglers. It is a crisis when such children may never get to the border safely because of disease, violent attacks, or sex trafficking.

“We’re dealing with a different culture who’s not afraid to send all their kids under the age of five, knowing they’re going to get raped, knowing they’re going to get killed,” a border agent told The Epoch Times on condition of anonymity. “You talk to the adults or the teenagers and they’ll tell you, ‘They raped three or four girls, and they kicked them off the trains.’ They’re going to die.”

Those minors lucky enough to make it safely to the U.S-Mexico border are vastly overwhelming the resources available to take care of them after they have crossed illegally into this country. Hence, the inhumane conditions facing the children, just as they thought the worst was behind them. A picture is a worth a thousand words, as photos made available by Democrat Rep. Henry Cuellar's office of the horrible living conditions demonstrate.

Despite its denials, the Biden administration has sent strong signals through its actions that encourage migrants to come to our country illegally, especially unaccompanied minors. The pull is too great to resist.

Who has Biden just tasked with trying to stem the flow of migrants from Central America? It’s Vice President Kamala Harris, of course. Biden claimed that Harris was the most qualified person to take on this job. Based on what? Harris has no experience either in diplomacy or immigration matters. It was just the other day when Harris laughed in response to a question whether she had plans to visit the border.

Harris is supposed to oversee the infusion of billions of dollars into the economies of Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador in an attempt to reduce the poverty and violence that are fueling the migration surge. She will fail just as then-Vice President Biden did during the Obama administration. American taxpayers’ money will go down the money pits of these corrupt regimes.

President Juan Orlando Hernández of Honduras, for example, was linked to alleged involvement with Honduras’s drug-trafficking industry during a federal trial in New York. The trial was of a Honduran citizen who was convicted on March 22nd on various counts, including conspiracy to traffic cocaine. The New York Times reported that “evidence presented in court over two weeks provided a searing assessment of the president, whose government’s failure to build a lawful state and a robust economy has helped drive hundreds of thousands of despairing citizens to emigrate in recent years, with most trying to reach the United States.” Yet Biden’s solution is to send Harris down to Honduras and other corrupt Central American countries with bucketsful of cash. This would be laughable if it weren't so pathetic.

It is a dereliction of duty for the president of the United States to potentially endanger the health and security of the American people he is sworn to protect by stimulating an uncontrollable surge of illegal immigrants into this country. And it is cruel for the Biden administration to lure unaccompanied minors to take a very treacherous journey north with no idea of what awaits them. The right thing to do for all concerned is for the Biden administration to send an unambiguous message that those crossing into the United States illegally, including children, will be promptly sent home in a safe and humane manner.

Democrats Will Kill the Goose That Lays the Golden Vaccines

by Newt Gingrich and Joe DeSantis: Given the Left’s desire to ban some of the works of Dr. Seuss, it is not surprising that its members also seem intent on discounting the lessons of another classic children’s story.

In the Aesop’s fable, The Goose that Laid the Golden Eggs, a farmer has a goose that lays a golden egg every day. Instead of being happy with this miracle, the farmer decides to kill the goose assuming there must be an even larger deposit of gold inside. However, the goose is no different on the inside than any other goose, and the farmer is left with nothing.

The story describes the folly of short-sighted decision-making that destroys something that is predictably and routinely valuable. Unfortunately, this is precisely what Democrats seem intent on doing to America’s biopharmaceutical ecosystem – at precisely the time when it has proven most essential.

Thanks to a unique partnership between public sector investment at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and a robustly capitalized private sector biopharmaceutical industry, the United States has created an engine for new cures and treatments that is the envy of the world.

Both parts of this engine are essential. NIH funds the basic science that identifies promising leads for drug development, and the private sector takes those findings and sees if they can be used to develop new treatments. This latter step must be funded by the private sector because it can move much faster and more creatively than the public sector’s grant application process – and there is simply more money in the private economy than in the public sector.

The value of this public private partnership has just been proven in a spectacular way. Biopharmaceutical companies were able to take theory developed with publicly financed research into mRNA and use the private sector’s considerable resources and agility to develop vaccines for COVID-19. Coupled with a significant streamlining of regulations, vaccines were developed and approved less than a year after COVID-19 was first identified.

Of course, this success was made possible by President Donald Trump’s Operation Warp Speed, which NIH Director Francis Collins said helped create vaccines “faster than it’s ever been [done] before,” and “was an incredibly important step forward that the administration deserves credit for.” Now, even while taking credit for the distribution of these vaccines under President Joe Biden, Democrats want to destroy this critical partnership in the short-sighted search for a nonexistent reward.

According to The Hill, key Democrats, including Sen. Bernie Sanders (VT) and Rep. Rosa DeLauro (CT), are pressuring the United States to support a radical proposal at the World Trade Organization. They seek to strip patent protections for COVID-19 vaccines. Speaker Nancy Pelosi is also reported to have expressed support for this measure.

In other words, they want to kill the goose that lays the golden vaccines. It is hard to imagine a more destructive step for the current pandemic and future drug development.

First, as numerous experts have pointed out, stripping patent protections would not meaningfully increase manufacturing capacity. That’s because there are a limited number of places with the infrastructure needed to safely make the vaccines, and they are already being employed to do so. Even Bill Gates, whose foundation is dedicated to vaccine distribution in developing countries, has said, “There’s not a single additional vaccine that would have come out of [the WTO effort].”

Second, and more fundamentally, the Left consistently fails to understand the kind of incentives that their big government, anti-capitalist economics create. Even if new manufacturing capabilities are brought online, removing the patent protections will simply disincentivize the current patent holders from continuing to produce their vaccines once the wealthier countries of the world are fully vaccinated. So, without patent protections there will be fewer available vaccines for developing countries than if protections remain in place.

That’s in the short term. Removing patent protections would also send a chilling signal across the biopharmaceutical industry, drying up investment and research and development dollars. This would delay or even prevent entirely the next generation of treatments.

This same criticism also applies to most of the Democrats’ proposals regarding drug prices. They sacrifice the future to benefit the present – and even that short-term benefit is minimal.

For instance, Democratic Rep. Frank Pallone (NJ-6), who chairs the House Energy and Commerce Committee, has pledged to take up a bill “similar” to HR 3, which passed the House in 2020 but went nowhere in the Republican-controlled Senate. The White House recently signaled it may use pieces of this bill, essentially taking money out of Medicare to fund the infrastructure package.

HR3 was a grab bag of destructive policies that would cripple biopharmaceutical development by drying up investment in the future. This includes allowing Medicare to dictate the price of drugs. The Democrats refer to it as negotiating prices, but the way the bill is structured, manufacturers must accept the government’s suggested prices or face punitive taxes on the gross sales of the drugs.

Defenders of this idea protest that in other countries, governments set the prices of drugs. This is true. It is also true that these same government routinely refuse to pay for drugs that are available to patients in the United States. That’s because the government is only interested in paying what a drug is worth to the government, not to patients. Patients in those countries, at least, do have some recourse: They can come to America to be treated.

But if America follows the same path, where will American patients go to get treatments that are never developed? Where will we go if Democrats kill the goose that lays the golden eggs?

The Fall Of Chile Is A Warning To America

Stephen Moore
by Stephen Moore: Back in the 1970s, the nation of Chile embarked on one of the boldest sets of free market economic reforms in history. The government called in the Chicago Boys, as they were called, led by Milton Friedman and other University of Chicago free market economists.

They were given a free hand to redesign the Chilean economic system with property rights, a low flat tax, privatization of the Social Security system and industry deregulation. In 1991, Friedman wrote that Chile now “has all three things: political freedom, human freedom and economic freedom. Chile will continue to be an interesting experiment to watch to see whether it can keep all three.”

For four decades, the experiment worked better than anyone could have imagined. According to a study by economist Axel Kaiser for the Cato Institute: “Between 1975 and 2015 per capita income in Chile quadrupled to $23,000, the highest rate in Latin America. As a result, from the early 1980s to 2014 poverty fell from 45 percent to 8 percent.” Chile became one of the wealthiest nations in South America. And it happened in three decades, an eye blink of history.

The Marxists and intellectual class of Latin America always hated the free market reforms. They disparaged the Chicago Boys as “fascists.” They spent decades attacking the policies (with the stooges in the American media echoing their protests), even as Chile became the jewel of South America.

The Marxists invented a narrative of “inequality”: “The rich were getting richer, and the poor were getting poorer, and capitalism is evil.”

They infiltrated all of Chile’s cultural institutions: the media, the schools, the universities, the Catholic Church, the arts, the unions and even the corporate boardrooms. They spread their poisonous creed of collectivism to the populace.

Is any of this sounding familiar to our situation today?

Eventually, the leftists pulled off a political coup. In 2013, the left won the Chilean presidency.
The free market reforms were systematically replaced with “spread the wealth” platitudes. In October 2020, voters approved a rewrite of the constitution, and now property rights and the rule of law are in danger.

Chile is now in economic free fall in less than 6 months. The poor are getting crushed. The rich are pulling their money out of the country. They have arrived at “equality”: Nearly everyone is suffering.

Meanwhile, back in America, we have an economic transformation of our own going on. The Biden administration promises to help the middle class by handing out trillions of dollars of free money to citizens and paying people more money for not working than working. We will borrow trillions of dollars and pray that the Chinese continue to buy up our bonds and that our currency holds up.

Many of our constitutional protections and congressional rules of behavior, such as the filibuster, which protects the rights of the minority, may be headed to the shredder. The election laws are getting rewritten to benefit, significantly, the party now in power — the Democrats. The House has passed a bill requiring millions of working-class people to join unions and pay dues. The left is saying, don’t worry, this compulsion is going to help the working class. Sure.

A sock-it-to-the-rich tax increase is coming that will make the productive class and the job creators pay their “fair share” with tax rates of 50%, 60% and 70%.

Will this story have a happy ending?

The answer to that question might be contained in the frightening example of what happened in Chile. It is what our children and college students should be learning in the classrooms — fat chance. The left runs our schools now, too.

When Minorities Vote GOP, the Media Smears Republicans as Racists

Daniel Greenfield: In just one week, the Washington Post churned out two op-eds on the same theme, "The GOP is Now Just the Party of White Grievance" and "The Republican Party is Making Jim Crow Segregationists Proud". The D.C. Democrat paper doesn’t bother clarifying why Democrats from two generations ago would be thrilled that 1 in 5 black men voted for President Trump.

Ever since the election, the media has been beating its narrative drum with one message.

CNN howls that Republicans are the worst racists. The New York Times insists they’re even more racist than that. And MSNBC will counter that only white racists would vote Republican.

The most famous media exponent of the “white grievance” line is Stuart Stevens: Romney’s senior strategist, who went on to join the Lincoln Project. Stevens claimed on MSNBC that the GOP, "went down a path to embrace white grievance as its core" and that, "of the Americans who are 15 years and under, the majority are nonwhite. They're gonna be nonwhite when they turn 18 and start voting and that's the end of the Republican party as we know it."

But David Shor, Obama's battleground state election analyst, pointed out, "I don’t think a lot of people expected Donald Trump’s GOP to have a much more diverse support base than Mitt Romney’s did in 2012. But that’s what happened.

“My party obviously has an embarrassingly small share of African American votes,” Senator Romney claimed after embarrassingly participating in a Black Lives Matter rally.

President Trump had done better than Romney with both black and Latino voters the first time around. And he improved on those numbers the second time around. As Shor notes, among Democrats, "Hispanic support dropped by 8 to 9 percent" and "there’s evidence that there was something like a 5 percent decline in Asian American support for Democrats."

1 in 3 Latino men and 1 in 5 black men voted for President Trump in 2020.

Meanwhile over half of the House minority freshmen are Republicans. This is the first time that more House minority freshmen have been Republicans than Democrats.

The Jim Crow segregationists must be really proud of that one.

As Henry Olsen, the author of The Working Class Republican noted, "Every seat Republicans have flipped from blue to red has been captured by a woman or a minority."

These are strange numbers for the party of “white grievance”.

The Democrats and their media keep shouting that Republicans are becoming whiter even as Republican voters and elected officials are more diverse than they have been in a generation.

As Shor noted, Democrats gained "roughly 7 percent among white college graduates" and lost support among black, Hispanic, and Asian voters by 2, 9, and 5 percent respectively.

If any party out there is getting whiter, it’s the Democrats. And that has them worried.

These are some of the numbers that explain why Democrats are doubling down on accusations of Republican racism. These smears don’t reflect the real world, they’re a messaging operation by a radical party that bet its future on minority voters only to discover it’s losing its grip on them.

Democrat efforts to connect with minority voters backfired. As Shor noted, police defunding led to “conservative Hispanic voters who’d been voting for us despite their ideological inclinations” to begin “voting more like conservative whites”. And trying to win over Hispanic voters with open borders was an even bigger disaster. “Asking voters whether they lean toward Biden and Trump, and then emphasizing the Democratic position on immigration, often caused Biden’s share of support among Latino respondents to decline.” So much for immigration pandering.

Black leaders and voters rejected police defunding. By the time the election was drawing near, Biden and the Democrats were forced to denounce race riots and reject police defunding.

Police defunding and open borders are only popular with AOC’s base of white hipsters.

Unable to meaningfully connect with minority voters, Democrats have defaulted back to accusing Republicans of racism. And insisting, all evidence to the contrary, that they’re a white party. It’s not only a lie, but it shows the level of desperation and contempt by the Democrats.

The Democrats have defined white grievance as opposition to critical race theory and their culture war. But neither are especially popular with minority voters. Going to war against Dr. Seuss may thrill the hearts of AOC’s white hipster base, but black and Hispanic parents want the Democrats to stand up to the teachers’ unions and reopen schools. San Francisco’s obsession with renaming closed schools even led to a rebuke from its black female mayor.

The Democrat culture war is based around generating racially polarizing moments, but they have nothing to do with the real concerns of most minority voters. They’re the noise of a college-educated lefty elite, white, black, and otherwise, talking about its ideological obsessions.

Eliminating Dr. Seuss doesn’t frame Republicans as the party of white grievance or racism. Instead it shows that the Democrats are unserious radicals who don’t intend to do anything for minority voters, and can’t even prioritize delivering the financial benefits that they promised.

But, much like Robin DiAngelo’s racist tract, White Fragility, when the Washington Post serially accuses Republicans of being white racists, it isn’t talking to minorities. The Post has fairly few minority readers, despite claiming to cover a city that is majority black. But that’s not the city that the paper is built to cover. The Post is a government paper and its demographic are officials, elected and unelected, and the swamp of contractors, consultants, and lobbyists around them.

White people are telling other white people that Republicans are the party of white people.

The strategy is less about winning over minority voters than making white college-educated voters feel like racists if they even think about voting Republican.

Critical race theory and cancel culture are the barbed wire on the plantation for white voters.

Democrats kept black voters in by telling them that Republicans are racists. Now just as minority voters are beginning to drift over the invisible fence, the Democrats are telling college-educated white voters that Republicans are racist. Racism is the plantation’s fence. Minority voters on the plantation had been taught to fear racism outside the invisible fence while college-educated white voters are being taught to fear the hidden racism lurking deep in their own whiteness.

But the fear strategy, fear of the outside world and fear of your own dark side, has its limits.

The Democrats have gone from the party of, “The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself” to the party of, “Fear thy neighbor” and worse still, “Fear thyself.” The party’s pitch has been distilled into fear and hatred. As more minorities vote Republican, the Democrats can only respond by ramping up the racism smears that have become their only real argument for the minority vote.

The more minorities vote Republican, the more the Democrat racism smears fly in the media.

Nightmare Narratives

by Paul Jacob: Beware the America we see on our screens.

A friend posted something on Facebook tying three recent stories together, what he called “brazenly false narratives many progressives have peddled.”

The first being that those who attacked the Capitol on January 6th were treated more gently than Black Lives Matter activists would have been. Back in January, then President-Elect Biden made a point of offering this stark racial takeaway, sans evidence.*

The second narrative? That the Atlanta shooting spree was motivated by anti-Asian hatred, six of the nine people shot, eight killed, being Asian. But there is yet no evidence of racism; another, quite different motive appears to have spurred the massacre.

Nonetheless, on NBC Meet the Press last Sunday, Princeton University Professor Eddie Glaude Jr. said the Atlanta shooting was part of “this panic around the whiteness of this country.” The Washington Post’s Jonathan Capehart echoed that emotion in a weekend column, “Asian Americans must not fight white terror alone.”

Yet, weeks ago, The Post informed readers, “Tensions between Asian and Black communities also date back decades and have been reignited by videos that show Black perpetrators in many of the recent attacks on Asian Americans.”

The terror is diverse.

Lastly, the Boulder shooter was taken alive — which “must” mean (if you are catching on) that he is . . . white. Some referred to the killer as a “white Christian terrorist” . . . problem being (you guessed it) he turned out to be a Syrian immigrant — and Muslim. Causing mass tweet deletes, including by Vice-President Harris’s niece.**

Like me, you probably meet a lot of nice people, white and black and Asian and Middle Eastern . . . of both sexes, various genders, differing religions . . . all the time . . . before the pandemic, anyway.

But no film at 11.

This is Common Sense. I’m Paul Jacob.

What This Arizona Sheriff Sees While Border Crisis Worsens

by Rachel del Guidice: A border sheriff in Arizona says his county has hit a crisis point with the surge of illegal immigrants crossing into the U.S. from Mexico.

“We went from a year ago manageable [and] calm to unmanageable chaos and crisis,” Cochise County Sheriff Mark Dannels told The Daily Signal in a phone interview Wednesday.

“Checkpoints are all down,” said Dannels, whose county is about two hours from Tucson by car. “There’s no more checkpoints [for illegal immigrants] in our county. Our Border Patrol station has become a care center for the agents who run the checkpoints … so we’ve lost agents in the field.”

After being sworn in Jan. 20, President Joe Biden signed an executive order halting construction of President Donald Trump’s wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

“When President Biden took office, within hours of taking office, he had the executive orders and [in] one of them he declared the southwest border not an emergency,” Dannels recalled.

“They stopped the radio sensors and technology lighting. And most of all, it sent a message … that the border is open,” he said, adding: “That’s causing us great grief.”

In an interview Wednesday on “The Daily Signal Podcast,” Mark Morgan, acting commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection in the Trump administration, said statistics show illegal crossings at the border have exploded.

“Last month, in the month of February, they saw over 100,000 apprehensions of people trying to illegally enter the border,” said Morgan, currently a visiting fellow at The Heritage Foundation.

“I think in March, you’re going to see that number skyrocket—120,000, 130,000 [arrests at the border], if not reaching the numbers at the height of the crisis that we saw in 2019,” he said.

Dannels, the Cochise County sheriff, said his community is concerned about what is happening along the 83 miles the county shares with Mexico.

“They’re in unrest with the fact that they don’t know what’s going on there now … with the erosion of prevention and enforcement programs,” he said.

Dannels, first elected sheriff as a Republican in 2012 and reelected in 2016 and 2020, has served in law enforcement for 36 years.

“My days are spent addressing community concerns, talking to media now with the national hype [that] just happened because of the decision, and last but not least, is overseeing an operation that has increased immigration [and] border issues,” Dannels told The Daily Signal.

He said chaos at the border also has brought more drugs and crime to Cochise County.

“There are more calls of [illegal immigrants trespassing] on private properties,” Dannels said. “You name it, I mean, drug smuggling is up. … We were 20 months without a drug load [moving] in this county, and that’s something which is very disturbing to me on the public safety side.”

What is happening is a marked change from when Trump was in office, the sheriff said.

“So we’re just more guarded,” Dannels said. “We’re more focused on the fact that we’re dealing with border crimes more than we have. A year ago, we didn’t have this.”
