End the Commitment to Complacency Now!

Please Contact Congress before the Memorial Day Recess
Ask Congress to Consider these Facts before the Memorial Day Recess

Fact: Men and women of the armed forces placed in harm's way continue to do an outstanding, professional job!
Fact: In order to continue completing their military operations, they rely on financial resources provided by the Federal government.
Fact: War is serious business. It must not be used as a "political football" to produce sound bites, campaign rhetoric or fundraising letters.
Fact: Over 3 months ago, the Commander-in-Chief submitted to Congress an Emergency Defense Supplemental Appropriations for FY 2007 to fund the Global War on Terror through October 1, 2007.
Fact: The entire Congress fully supports providing more Defense spending than requested by the Commander-in-Chief, but a razor thin majority of Congress insists on establishing a date-certain for the complete withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq.
Fact: The Commander-in-Chief vetoed the initial funding package he received because of additional funding unrelated to the Global War on Terror and timelines that would pre-determine withdrawal of military personnel by August 2008.
Fact: Only YOU -- as a constituent and registered voter -- can make a difference.
Contact both your senators and your representative. Tell them the nation's service members need the Emergency Defense Supplemental Appropriations for FY 2007 without unrelated funding requests or any timelines for withdrawal of troops. Call the Capitol Switchboard: 202-224-3121 and ask for your senators and representative.
Fact: "Wait us out" is hardly a successful military strategy.

Fred Thompson Isn't Yet Running, but He's Running a Great Campaign

by Peggy Noonan, Wall Street Journal (5/17): Having watched the second Republican debate the other night, it's clear to me the subject today is Fred Thompson, the man who wasn't there. While the other candidates bang away earnestly in a frozen format, Thompson continues to sneak up from the creek and steal their underwear -- boxers, briefs and temple garments. He is running a great campaign. It's just not a declared campaign. It's a guerrilla campaign whose informality is meant to obscure his intent. It has been going on for months and is aimed at the major pleasure zones of the Republican brain . . . [Read More]

Today is Armed Forces Day - "America Supports You"

US DOD: President Harry S. Truman led the effort to establish a single holiday for citizens to come together and thank our military members for their patriotic service in support of our country. On August 31, 1949, Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of an Armed Forces Day to replace separate Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force Days. The single-day celebration stemmed from the unification of the Armed Forces under one department -- the Department of Defense. [Read More]

Boozman Support the Birthright Citizenship Act of 2007

U.S. Rep. John Boozman (R-AR) reaffirmed his commitment to reforming the nation’s immigration practices by cosponsoring legislation which will clarify birthright citizenship. H.R. 1940, the “Birthright Citizenship Act of 2007,” amends the Immigration and Nationality Act to grant birthright citizenship to children born in the United States with at least one parent who is either an American citizen; an alien lawfully admitted to the United States; or a foreigner serving in the American military. Boozman said, “Any plan for true reform of our immigration laws needs to include clarifying who gets citizenship by birth. The practice of illegally entering into the United States, birthing a baby inside our borders, and reaping the rewards needs to be ended. America is a welcoming country, but I do not think it is too much to ask those who wish to become a part of our country follow our laws and procedures. This bill will remove yet another enticement to those who would violate our immigration laws, and I believe it should be brought to the House floor and passed.”

Good News: “Meehan-Shays Amendment” – the "Grassroots Gag Bill" dies in committee

Focus Action: The “Meehan-Shays Amendment” – the "Grassroots Gag Bill" – was killed Thursday in the House Judiciary Committee. This is a victory made possible by concerned citizens, who made their voices heard. Thanks to your phone calls and petitions, we will be able to continue informing you of the latest issues in the culture war. The “Meehan-Shays Amendment” was possibly the most dangerous bill introduced yet in the 110th Congress because it would have severely limited free-speech rights. The bill would have made it nearly impossible for groups like Focus Action to update you on important legislative issues by creating miles of new red tape. But we're not quite out of the woods yet. This dangerous grassroots-lobbying language could be added back in before the full House vote on the broad lobbying-reform bill next week. We will continue to update you about any new developments leading up to the House vote. Thank you for helping protect our freedom of speech and congratulations on being an integral part of this victory for our constitutional rights.

P.S. Two bills that will directly threaten our First Amendment freedoms of speech and religion are the Hate Crimes Act and the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) which will be coming up for consideration in Congress soon. Make your voice heard on these bills: sign the Hate Crimes/ ENDA petition and forward this post to your family and friends, so they can sign the petition.

Bush-Kennedy Z-Amnesty Bill Gives Amnesty to Illegals

Key Points Of Bush-Kennedy Amnesty Bill In More Detail -- Grassfire has reviewed the outline for the new Bush-Kennedy amnesty bill and it is very similar to the original outline floated by the White House in April. We have revised our key points below to reflect the new bill.

Summary Of Bush-Kennedy Z-Amnesty Proposal:
1. Creates almost immediate legal status for 12-20 million illegals.
2. Provides clear three-step path to citizenship for 12-20 million illegals.
3. Allows current illegals to stay legally in our country indefinitely.
4. Does not require a "touch back" to obtain Z-visa (only for Green Card app).
5. Gives illegals healthcare/education benefits and back credit for Social Security wages.
6. Creates new Temporary Worker "Y-Visa" program with unlimited totals.
7. Legal status granted to illegals BEFORE TRIGGERS so triggers are meaningless.

Key Points Of Bush-Kennedy Amnesty Bill In More Detail
•Z Visa for Illegals. Under the plan, a new classification of visas, the "Z Visa," would be created for all illegal aliens living in the United States before January 1, 2007.
Instant Legalization for illegals. As a first step toward receiving the Z Visa, illegals would receive confirmed legal status within 24 hours of application (and $5k fee). Thus, virtually overnight, 12-20 million illegals would become legal. No "touchback" to home country required to gain legal status and obtain probationary card.
•After "Triggers", Z Visas Issued. After certain "triggers" are met (border security, fence, background check, etc), those with probationary cards would be issued "Z nonimmigrant" visas. Z visa holders could then upgrade to "lawful permanent residence" ($4k fee) and then apply for citizenship.
•Taxpayer-Funded Benefits. Z-visa holders are eligible for medical care and primary/secondary education. Illegals would also be eligible for SS wages for wages earned as illegal if they used their own SSN. No "touchback" to home country required to obtain benefits.
•Long-Term Legal Status. Z visa holders can stay legally in our country on an indefinite basis as long as they re-up . No "touchback" to home country required to stay in country indefinitely under Z Visa.
•Direct Path to Citizenship. Z visa holders would then be able to apply for a Green Card. Only at this point would the head of household would then have to "touch back" to home country, with guaranteed re-entrance on Z-visa.
•New Temporary Worker Y-Visa Program. This program creates new visas for non-seasonal workers (Y-1; 400k yearly), agricultural (Y-2A; unlimited), non-agricultural (Y-2B; 100k yearly), and family (Y-3; 20% of Y1). Thus, at the outset, the new Y-Visa will bring over 580,000 people to our country and since the Y-2A is unlimited, likely much more.
•Triggers nearly irrelevant since they come AFTER legal status granted. The bill includes lots of verbiage on so-called "triggers" -- border security thresholds that must be met. But the fact is, illegals are given legal status IMMEDIATELY. No triggers are needed. Thus, the triggers are window dressing. Plus, once the "nose of the camel is in the tent," (i.e. illegals are made legal) there will be no stopping the camel regardless of triggers.

Senate, White House agree on worker program
Bill would grant quick legal status to millions of illegal immigrants

WorldNetDaily: Senate Democrats, Republicans, and the White House forged a compromise Thursday on an immigration bill that would grant quick legal status to millions of illegal immigrants and increase border security. The bill, which would establish a temporary worker program, is not "amnesty," insisted Arlen Specter (R-PA), in anticipation of criticism. . . . Rep. Steve King (R-IA) nevertheless, called the deal "Amnesty, a pardon and reward for lawbreakers." . . . King, ranking Republican on the Immigration Subcommittee of the U.S. House Judiciary Committee, said each of the senators who struck the deal "should wear a scarlet letter 'A' for amnesty." Democrats Agree On A $2.9 Trillion Budget That Includes The Largest Tax Hike In U.S. History

Andrew Taylor, "Democrats Agree On $2.9 Trillion Budget," AP, 5/16/07:
* Democrats' budget fails to extend all the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts.
* Democrats ... announced agreement on a $2.9 trillion budget blueprint for 2008, promising a budget surplus in five years but only by allowing some of President Bush's tax cuts to expire."
* Senate Budget committee member, Sen. Judd Gregg (R-NH) said the Democratic plan would produce 'the largest tax increase in U.S. history, billions in new spending, and no attempt to address the long-term fiscal crisis' in retirement programs and Medicaid, the health care program for the poor and disabled.

The Democrat Budget Calls For More Washington Spending:
*
The democrats' budget plan increases spending by $21 billion above the president's request. "The deal announced Wednesday ... would allow $954.1 billion in fiscal 2008 discretionary spending.... That total, which does not include war spending, is $21 billion more than the White House's budget request, and this difference grows to $23 billion when $2 billion in advance appropriations are included." (David Clarke, "Hill Confronts President On Spending," CQ Today, 5/16/07)
* A 26-member coalition, including The National Taxpayers Union (NTU), Citizens Against Government Waste, and Americans For Tax Reform called on Congress to retrain spending: "Senate and House Budget Resolutions propose to raise taxes; create new 'reserve funds' to raise taxes further; employ budgetary gimmicks they themselves have criticized; and all while ignoring the impending crises in Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid." (NTU
, Accessed 5/17/07)

Forgotten Promises: Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) And Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) promised to be committed to fiscal discipline and not to raise taxes:
* Pelosi: "What we're saying is Democrats proposed tax cuts for middle-income families. And we want to have 'pay go', no new deficit spending. We're not going to start with ... repealing tax cuts." (CNN's "Newsroom," 1/7/06)
* Pelosi: "Democrats will restore fiscal responsibility to ensure a vibrant and growing economy." (Rep. Pelosi, "Pelosi: Democrats Will Restore Fiscal Responsibility To Ensure A Vibrant And Growing Economy," Press Release, 10/25/06)
* Last Nov., Reid Said He Wouldn't Raise Taxes. CBS' Bob Schieffer: "The president, throughout this campaign, said all Democrats want to do is raise taxes. Tell us what you plan to do. Are you going to raise taxes? Is it inevitable that taxes will be raised?" Sen. Harry Reid: "The answer is no." (CBS' "Face The Nation," 11/12/06)
* Reid: "Democrats are ready to work with the President to address our record deficits and restore fiscal discipline." (Andrew Taylor, "Bush Pushes Balanced Budget On Democrats," AP, 1/4/07)

Amnesty for ALL say McCain and Kennedy as US Senate makes second attempt to sellout America

by Tom Tancredo: Senator McCain and his allies seem to think that they can dupe the American public into accepting a blanket amnesty if they just call it 'comprehensive' or 'earned legalization' or 'regularization.' Unfortunately for them, however, the American people know amnesty when they see it. The President is so desperate for a legacy and a domestic policy win that he is willing to sell out the American people and our national security.
If Senator McCain and Senator Kennedy spent as much time working on improving border security as they did poll testing creative euphemisms for amnesty, America would be a much safer place. Their plan will grant an immediate amnesty for nearly all 12 - 20 million illegal aliens who will get legal status for residence and jobs (with assurance of green cards no later than 13 years). That is triple the rate of chain migration of extended family from around 250,000 a year to around 750,000 a year for about a decade; and new flows of 400,000 temporary foreign workers each year, will bring their families and have anchor babies who will be given U.S. citizenship. This amnesty plan will be a slap in the face to hard working Americans and those who have come here to work legally. I promise to do everything in my power to stop this travesty but I need your help.

Please call your Senators and your Congressman at (202) 224-3121 and let them know how outraged you are that they would even consider massive amnesty as the answer to illegal immigration and that you expect them to reject this plan outright and demand the President secure our borders now! You all played a critical role last year in stopping amnesty we must do it again-our nation is relying on us.

TRUTH: Mike Beebe Loves Taxes!

The Truth In Arkansas Politics put this on their blog today: One year ago the state had a surplus of $500 million and was projected to hit $1 billion. Now, thanks to Beebe's push for a major increase in spending, the state is unsure about its financial future. And yesterday, Mike Beebe showed that his answer is not to cut wasteful spending but to lean on taxes: "I'm not going to lie to you. I don't know where we'd go without the income tax."

Let's be clear Mike: TAXES are not the answer. More government is not the answer. Taking money away from hard working Arkansans limits their purchasing power and actually lessens the amount of tax revenues the state will bring in. You get a thriving economy and record tax revenues that create surpluses by letting hard working Arkansans keep their MONEY!!!

Senate GOP on verge of amnesty deal
Conservatives growing uneasy about Kennedy-led negotiations

RedState: The Senate may be very close to a deal on comprehensive immigration reform, according to sources on Capitol Hill. But as the immigration deal comes together, Senate conservatives are growing uneasy about the state of the negotiations, fearing that Republican leadership will sell out to the Bush Administration and liberal Democrats to give amnesty to illegal aliens. The issue boils down to whether Senate Republicans leaders, including Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) and Conference Chairman Jon Kyl (Ariz.), will give Democrats a free pass to bring up the bill without ever giving Republicans a chance to review it . . . Huckabee shows he can run with the bulls

by Bill Sammon, The Examiner: Rudy McRomney, the composite name used as political shorthand to denote the top three Republican presidential hopefuls, might soon be expanded to Rudy “Huck” McRomney. “I wish my name would get in the moniker,” said former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee at Tuesday night’s Republican debate here. “I could use the bump.”

Based on his widely praised performances in Tuesday’s debate and an earlier debate in California, Huckabee’s bump might be taking shape. Pundits and politicians say he is rapidly ascending into the top tier of GOP candidates, an elite group that until Tuesday had been limited to Rudy Giuliani, John McCain and Mitt Romney. “I thought tonight you saw, in my view, an expansion from three to four,” former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steel told The Examiner in the post-debate “spin room” at the University of South Carolina in Columbia. “Tonight you saw a great shift.” . . . Huckabee had the most memorable one-liner of the evening when he poked fun at Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards for paying $400 for a haircut. “We’ve had a Congress that’s spent money like John Edwards at a beauty shop,” Huckabee quipped, bringing down the house. . . The GOP Debate II

by Rich Galen, from the GOP Presidential Debate Columbia, S.C.: Shorthand: Giuliani helped himself. McCain performed well. Huckabee did well enough so that the big three is now the big three and a half. Giving Romney the kindest review, he came out where he started, but I suspect he may have hurt himself by appearing too pre-programmed in his answers. . . .
* Throughout, Giuliani demonstrated he will stay on the issue of national security. When Ron Paul said that, in essence, it was the US presence in the Middle East which invited the September 11th attacks, Giuliani demanded that Paul take it back. He refused.
* John McCain appeared to have found a balance between looking tired and sounding over caffeinated as he did in the first debate. He got another laugh by repeating his line about a drunken sailor e-mailing him complaining that he was tired of being compared to Congress.
* Mike Huckabee -- who seemed to be in control of his material and his delivery -- topped McCain and got off the biggest applause line of the night by accusing Congress of "spending money like John Edwards in a beauty shop."
* I thought that Mitt Romney needed to knock a little polish off his performance: His answers continue to make him sound like Hermione Granger in Potions class at Hogwarts. . . . [Read More]

NRA Supports Gun Restrictions Opposed by GOA
Military Veterans' Gun Ownership Rights at Risk

GOA Alert: Anti-gun Rep. John Dingell (D-MI) continues his assault on American gun owners. Dingell has been tapped by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to broker a compromise with Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) on H.R. 297, a gun control bill being pushed in the wake of the Virginia Tech shooting. The bill provides about $1 billion to the states to "provide the National Instant Criminal Background Check System [NICS] with all records concerning persons who are prohibited from possessing or receiving a firearm... regardless of the elapsed time since the disqualifying event." As GOA has pointed out in previously, this could lead to millions more Americans being included in the FBI's database of prohibited persons.

Dingell, being a former NRA board member, is in a unique position in the Congress on Second Amendment issues. Despite the fact that he betrayed gun owners by supporting the Clinton semi-auto ban, he is still viewed on the Hill as one of the few pro-gun Democrats. So his support gives the bill the appearance of having the support of gun owners, when actually it is the most massive expansion of gun control in over a decade.

McCarthy, of course, is the most notorious anti-gunner in the Congress. Her sitting down with Dingell to decide the fate of our gun rights is like two foxes deciding how to best guard the henhouse. To make matters worse, Dingell is in negotiations with the NRA to come up with a 'compromise' as quickly as possible. The NRA itself told Newsweek in an exclusive interview on April 24 that the group "backs [the] proposed new legislation" in the House. Newsweek reported, "The NRA's position puts the group at odds with the Gun Owners of America, which has already launched a public campaign to block the legislation that the NRA supports, warning that the proposal could 'block millions of additional, honest gun owners from buying firearms.'

Politicians always seek to pass laws in the aftermath of a tragedy, as if one more law will stop evil people from doing evil deeds. Instead of passing more and more laws that ultimately will snuff out our liberty, we should consider repealing gun control laws that prevent citizens from defending themselves when a madman strikes. You can visit the Gun Owners Legislative Action Center to send your Representative a pre-written e-mail, and /or you may call your Representative at 202-225-3121 or toll-free at 1-877-762-8762.

ARRA Comment: A major concern is the potential taking away of gun ownership rights from military veterans who have returned from combat and have sought assistance for various forms of combat stress. Combat stress has existed for all wars and critical military interactions. For the government, particularly the Veterans Administration, to provide assistance to veterans and then to release this information to NICS which would then be used to screen, remove or restrict the 2nd Amendment rights of veterans would be both a travesty and in opposition to the intent of the 2nd Amendment.

Christians & churches should promote truth & adherence to law
No Sanctuary For Illegal Aliens At Our Church

by Chuck Baldwin: . . . news reports have been circulating throughout the mainstream media regarding the decision by several churches to provide "sanctuary" to illegal aliens. . . However, as a veteran pastor with more than thirty years . . . I can state unequivocally that our church will definitely not be participating in the "New Sanctuary Movement." Furthermore, it is more than troubling to learn that some of my Christian brethren seem to be so undiscerning as to be willing to facilitate lawlessness and even potential terrorism by assisting those who have no respect for our nation's laws or national borders. . . . illegal aliens are no more our "neighbors" and "friends" than are other criminals. They knowingly and deliberately violate our nation's immigration laws and then have the audacity to demand that we accept and even protect them . . .

And lest someone accuse me of being uncompassionate, think again. You should know that my church congregation is composed of several immigrants from many nationalities and ethnicities. And they all have one thing in common: they were willing to immigrate to America lawfully. They played by the rules. They stood in line. And they have found nothing but love and friendship from those of us privileged to be born in this great country.Critics should also know that my Chief of Staff, my right-hand man, is an immigrant from Zimbabwe, Africa. So, I don't want to hear how uncaring and bigoted I am because I believe that people should play by the rules and be honest with their fellow man. . . . < Should Christians share the Gospel with everyone they can, including illegal aliens? Of course, we should. However, we should also insist that people obey the law and do what is right. . . . During more than three decades of ministry, I have had occasion to counsel those who have broken the law and then experienced repentance and forgiveness in Christ. . . . I've always found that a person who is truly repentant and honest is more than willing to make things right with the law and to take his punishment like a man. Honest people don't demand or expect shortcuts and exemptions. Of course, not only is our national character and culture at risk, so is our security and survival. The current invasion of illegal aliens threatens not only our way of life, but also our very safety. . . . the threat of terrorism is even more problematic than individual acts of violence. With millions of illegal aliens pouring over our borders from scores of nations that are hostile to the United States, we risk the threat of major acts of terrorism. I'm afraid that the policies of President George W. Bush and Senators Ted Kennedy, John McCain, et al., and now those of misguided churchmen, only serve to fuel the evil machinations of those who seek our harm.Instead of encouraging criminal activity (illegal immigration), Christians and churches should be promoting truth and adherence to law. Veterans to Congress: Secure Our Borders Now!

The nation’s largest veterans organization is calling on Congress to reject proposed legislation that would grant “fast track” citizenship or amnesty to the 12 million - 20 million individuals who are in this country illegally. Instead, The American Legion advocates aggressive enforcement of immigration laws and stronger border security as a means to reduce the illegal population in the United States. The American Legion’s National Executive Committee, meeting in Indianapolis, Ind. on May 9-10, outlined a five-point strategy to address illegal immigration. It includes:
  • Securing the borders and coastline points of entry
  • Removing the jobs magnet by imposing and enforcing employer sanctions
  • Eliminating most social services benefits for illegal immigrants
  • Promoting a strategy of attrition through enforcement
  • Effectively screening and tracking foreign visitors in the United States
“We are not against legal immigration and never have been,” said National Commander Paul A. Morin. “It is what made this country what it is today, and no one can dispute that. But the system is broken and it needs fixing, and the solutions being tossed around by some members of Congress are not in the best interest of this country.” [Read More]

Christian Leader Rev. Jerry Falwell Dies

The Rev. Jerry Falwell, a pioneer among televangelists who later became a leading voice in the national debate over Christian values, has died at the age of 73. He was born Aug. 11, 1933, and grew up in Lynchburg. Falwell heard the call while listening to a radio preacher. He built a church from scratch — Thomas Road Baptist — in Lynchburg. It grew to a mega-church of well over 20,000 members. He started a Christian school, then a college and most recently a law school, raising much of the money from his television ministry.

Falwell was instrumental in bringing Christians back into public life in America, after an absence stretching across most of the 20th Century. He founded the Moral Majority in 1979, which brought millions of born-again Christians into the center of political activism. His suffering has now ended; his journey has just begun; and we are all better for his sojourn among us.

Action Alert: 37 Major Groups Join to Defeat Efforts to Establish a "Grassroots Gag Order" on Citizens

Urgent Telephone Alert on the Meehan Amendment (H.R. 2093)! The House Judiciary Committee is expected to reconsider the “grassroots gag order” when the Meehan Amendment (H.R. 2093) will be offered on Tuesday, May 15, during debate on a broader "lobbying reform" bill. This amendment, sponsored by Rep. Martin Meehan (D-Mass.), would establish, for the first time, federal regulatory authority over efforts aimed at motivating citizens to communicate with their representatives about bills moving in Congress. As simimar provision in the U.S. Senate that could have silenced grassroots communication from groups was defeated after the public outcry by concerned citizens let your voices be heard. It is time to again take a stand!
This threat is so critical that over 37 major organizations (pro-family groups, as well as organizations from the left of the political spectrum, including the ACLU) have joined together to oppose the bill. Last week, they signed a joint letter calling on members of Congress to reject this dangerous effort to exclude men and women like you from the democratic process. Click to Read the Letter. The full House of Representatives is expected to act on the "lobbying reform" legislation on May 22. Depending on what happens in the Judiciary Committee on May 15, the full House may also vote on whether to include the Meehan provision in the broader bill. Contact your senators! Contact your representatives!

WorldNetDaily: In a move that has already angered some of his most ardent supporters, President Bush has asked the Democratic leadership in the U.S. Senate to revive a proposal for ratification of the United Nation's Law of the Sea Treaty, an international agreement defeated two years ago by Republican leadership in the upper house. Critics say ratification would compromise U.S. sovereignty and place 70% of the Earth's surface under the control of the U.N. – even providing for a "tax" that would be paid directly to the international body by companies mining in the world's oceans. The battle over the Law of the Sea Treaty first began 25 years ago, eventually being torpedoed by President Reagan. It resurfaced in 2004 under the sponsorship of Sen. Richard Lugar (R-IN) and was successfully defeated by then Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-RN), President Bush announced his intention to seek reintroduction of LOST for ratification to a small group of trusted Republican grass-roots organizers last week – an announcement that was met with horror and scorn. Eagle Forum leader Phyllis Schlafly, Center for Security Policy President Frank Gaffney, Leadership Institute President Morton Blackwell, Free Congress Foundation founder Paul Weyrich and leaders of the Heritage Foundation were quick to denounce the idea in forceful terms, calling on their members to begin lobbying the White House immediately. . . Giuliani admits pro-choice views
Is Reign of Social Conservatives coming to an end?

by Tom Brune: In a shift of tactics, Republican presidential contender Rudolph Giuliani acknowledged his liberal views Friday, calling a woman's right to choose an abortion one of his "core beliefs." After a week of criticism for making contradictory comments about abortion, Giuliani also said he backs gay domestic partnerships that aren't marriage and the right of states to restrict guns. . . ."Behind Giuliani's Pro-Choice Gamble," (by) David Von Drehle states that "Giuliani's decision to be more forthright about his pro-choice stance on abortion may be the boldest step of the Presidential campaign so far. And while it's certainly a gamble, because it will likely inflame the social-issue conservatives who form a key minority in the Republican party, it's far from reckless. On the contrary, it is the first tangible sign that a candidate did some hard thinking about the radically changed nature of this year's primary schedule and, in Giuliani's case, decided that the reign of social conservatives is coming to an end." . . . IF IT WALKS LIKE A DUCK . . .

by Coach Dave Daubenmire: . . . (I)n some of my recent research I have been struck by a strong resemblance to the beliefs of Communism and the beliefs of those who are currently striving for leadership in America. Now don’t get me wrong, I know Communism is dead because the media has told me so! But, as the old saying goes, “if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it must be a duck.” . . . I discovered a document that every American should read. It is a list of “Current Communist Goals” as read into the Congressional Record on January 10, 1963. Take time to read the 45 goals for the Communist takeover of America. It is chilling. It is as if the list were a “how we did it” written in 2007, rather than a “how to do it” written in 1963!

But here is my point, after you read the list ask yourself two questions. How successful have the Communists been in attaining their goal? How many of these goals would today’s “Progressives” disagree with? . . . Isn’t it time we started calling a duck a duck? Progressives promote Communism. They hate to be called Communists because they know that baby-boomers would never vote for a Communist. So they are progressives. Think the average Joe knows what that means? Calling a Communist a progressive is like calling Al Sharpton a Reverend. Look at this list of the
Congressional Progressive Caucus, a group of 65 Democratic members of the House of Representatives. They all support the Communist agenda. . . . [Read More] In 1999 Coach Daubenmire was sued by the ACLU for praying with his teams while coaching high school in Ohio. He now spends his energy fighting for Christian principles in the public domain. He is the founder and President of Pass The Salt Ministries www.ptsalt.com and Minutemen United www.minutemenunited.org, and the host of Pass The Salt radio show heard in Columbus, Ohio.

Happy Mother's Day
Presidential Proclamation Mother's Day, 2007

A Proclamation by the President of the United States of America
Motherhood is one of the most cherished and valued roles in our society. On Mother's Day, we pay tribute to these dedicated women who give unconditional love and guidance to their children.

A mother's work requires extraordinary patience and compassion, and her example influences the formation of young lives. President Gerald Ford wrote that "there is no undertaking more challenging, no responsibility more awesome, than that of being a mother." Mothers make great sacrifices and serve as caregivers and role models to help their children embrace dreams and aspirations. From these remarkable women, children learn character and values, the importance of giving back to their communities, and the courage to realize their potential. Mothers of military personnel provide support and encouragement while their sons and daughters defend our freedom in places far from home, and many mothers bring honor to the uniform of the United States while working to lay the foundations of peace for generations to come.
The bond between mothers and their children is one defined by love. As a mother's prayers for her children are unending, so are the wisdom, grace, and strength they provide to their children. On Mother's Day, we are reminded of the great debt we owe to our Nation's mothers for their love and devotion to their sacred duty.

To honor mothers, the Congress, by a joint resolution approved May 8, 1914, as amended (38 Stat. 770), has designated the second Sunday in May each year as "Mother's Day" and has requested the President to call for its appropriate observance. Throughout the year, and especially on this day, America's sons and daughters honor our mothers and celebrate their selfless gift of love.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim May 13, 2007, as Mother's Day. I encourage all Americans to show their gratitude and love to mothers for making a difference in the lives of their children, families, and communities. I call upon citizens to observe this day with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this seventh day of May, in the year of our Lord two thousand seven, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-first.
--GEORGE W. BUSH
