Amazon Calls Them Like They SPLC Them

by Tony Perkins: For the first two hours of the Big Tech hearing in the House, the most newsworthy thing Amazon's Jeff Bezos did was eat a handful of snacks. Reporters actually tweeted about it, joking that even sitting there doing nothing, he'd probably "just made $300 million dollars or so." Lauren Goode of WIRED guessed that Bezos could probably receive a Prime package "in the time it takes for representatives to ask him a single question." When they finally did, most people would agree: it was a doozy.

Bezos, who wrote the single largest check for same-sex marriage in 2012, hasn't exactly kept his social views a secret. As most conservatives found out the hard way, Amazon has been a mighty ally for the LGBT lobby for years, banning books and ads that dare to question their extremist agenda. Then the company picked a public fight, bullying states that tried to keep girls' restrooms safe. But the biggest insult may have come a few years back when the company quietly gave Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), a group linked to domestic terrorism in court, absolute power over its charity program. As most people found out in 2019 after a messy staff revolt, this is an organization so deeply sinister, corrupt, and racist that its own employees have sued. It's a "highly profitable scam," Bob Moser warned, full of sexual predators and con artists.

So why, a full year after these revelations became public, is Amazon Smile still giving SPLC full veto power over its charity program? "I am not here accusing you as someone who would ever traffic in hate," Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) pressed, "but it seems you have empowered people who do... The Southern Poverty Law Center, which you allow to dictate who can receive donations on your Amazon Smile platform, ha[s] said the Catholic Family News, Catholic Family Ministries, the Federation for American Immigration Reform, the American Family Association, the Family Research Council, the Jewish Defense League, and even Dr. Ben Carson are extremists and should be treated differently... I'm just wondering why you would place your confidence in a group that seems to be so out of step and seems to take mainstream Christian doctrine and label it as hate."

"Sir, it's a good question," Bezos admitted. He launched into a quick description of the program and then explained that they use "Southern Poverty Law Center data to say which charities are extremist organizations" and should be excluded. "But why?" Gaetz interrupted. "Since they're calling Catholics and Jewish groups hateful groups. Why would you trust them?" Bezos fumbled for a minute, then said, "Sir, I'm going to acknowledge this is an imperfect system, and I would love suggestions on better or additional sources..."

"My suggestion," Gaetz said firmly, "would be a divorce from the SPLC." If Bezos wants to police haters, that's his business. But SPLC can't even police its own hate -- let alone see past it to recognize others'. "Sometimes the press will describe us as monitoring hate crimes and so on..." former executive Mark Potok said. "I want to say plainly that our aim in life is to destroy these groups, to completely destroy them."

Is that Amazon's aim too? Because the longer they let SPLC silence conservatives, the bigger hole they're digging for themselves. After all, one of the reasons for Wednesday's hearing was to determine which of these Silicon Valley billionaires can be trusted to treat Americans fairly. If they're going to align themselves with people who don't believe in speech, then Congress has all the motivation in the world to reconsider the special treatment they're getting from the U.S. government.

Craig Parshall, special counsel to the American Center for Law and Justice, warned that these "four horsemen of the Techpocalypse" -- Google, Apple, Amazon, and Facebook -- are in for a rude awakening if they think Republicans are the only ones who have a problem with their business models. "This is an extraordinary thing," he said, "because even in this very heated political climate, during an election season... one [thing] they are agreeing on is that... these Big Tech platforms have become monopolies and used their monopoly power unfairly." Maybe that means different things to Republicans and Democrats, but they're united where it counts: holding these titans' feet to the fire.

"The reason they've gotten big," Craig told Sarah Perry on "Washington Watch," is not just because they're brilliant, but also because "Congress gave them immunity back in 1996 under the Communications Decency Act to be free from almost every lawsuit -- which is an extraordinary gift that they've never given to any other company or set of companies or any part of our enterprise system under the free market." And look at what's happened. "They have been free not only to get large, but to be mean-spirited in the way they suppress conservative opinions."

So what do we do about it? We can't continue to have four of the biggest companies in the world picking and choosing winners in a marketplace where they have unlimited power. What we're coming to, Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) has warned "is a time of reckoning." At the end of the day, these platforms have a choice. They can start acting in good faith -- or they can watch as both sides of Congress unite with one target: them.

Basketball Lives Matter

by Tom Balek: I keep seeing articles and posts and newscasts telling me that blacks and whites in America are supposed to hate each other.

That may be true in downtown Minneapolis (I doubt it) but it’s not even remotely accurate in my South Carolina town.

At least twice a week I go to my local YMCA for pickup basketball games. Now, in the interest of full disclosure, I am white, 66 years old and one year removed from major brain surgery, but I just love to play basketball. Most of the guys I play with are in their twenties, a few high schoolers, a few middle aged, and I am the “old man”. I feel blessed to be able to compete well enough to be part of the group.

Our players are about half black and half white. If you believed the network news, you would think that when we pick teams for a game, it would be the angry black guys against the angry white guys. And that a black guy would never pass it to me, an old white guy. And that if a black dude gets knocked down, I would never stop to pick him up, or vice-versa. And that we couldn’t possibly laugh together, compliment each other, root for each other, and just generally have a great time sharing our love for basketball.

But it’s true.

At the store, in a restaurant, at a gig, in church, I see people of all colors and classes smiling and enjoying each others’ company. I see black families, white families, mixed-race families interacting with warmth and joy. Kids play together without even noticing skin pigment.

Racism, black or white, is just not tolerated in my town. And I suspect that my town is pretty typical of most American towns. Before you call me naive, I must admit that bigotry does exist, but that is mostly on the part of far-left idealogues, who insist on categorizing people by physical characteristics instead of judging character.

So what’s up with all these network and internet reports of out-of-control racial hostility in America? COULD IT BE THAT SOMEBODY IS TRYING TO MANIPULATE US FOR POLITICAL PURPOSES?

The Stealth "Green New Deal"

Ken Blackwell
by Ken Blackwell, Contributing Author: We are three months from the Presidential election, and the stakes for the future of America have never been higher.

The COVID-19 global pandemic knocked America's robust economy back on its heels. As states cautiously re-open, President Trump has been laser-focused on supporting small businesses and getting our nation to work. However, in Washington, D.C., with 51 million people out of work, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Democrats, and their connected cronies have abused SBA loans. They have snuck numerous provisions into emergency bills under the cover of COVID-19.

The most terrifying sign of Democrats' plans is their embracing the previously dismissed "Green New Deal," which was a radical environmental proposal from self-described socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Senator Ed Markey (D-MA). Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC), the third-ranking House Democrat, was too honest by admitting his party wants to use billions in COVD-19 rescue funds to "restructure things to fit our vision."

Democrats are showing their cards of enacting this left-wing dream legislation in pieces through the tax code. It is time to sound the alarm, and conservatives must carefully watch the latest developments.

Democrats are focused on tax-bills because they only take a simple 51-majority vote in the Senate, utilizing "budget reconciliation" rules. First, this was tried with the so-called "Moving Forward Act" a $1.5 trillion spending bill full of radical environmentalist plans. Also, there were additional disturbing provisions in the highway reauthorization pork-barrel bill, including green-tax credits, which extends and expands credits for wealthy homeowners with solar panels, storage devices, energy-efficient windows, and geothermal converters until 2025.

Once presented as "temporary" tax incentives, it is clear Democrats never want these green handouts to affluent taxpayers and highly-profitable renewable energy companies to end.

The truth is, America does not need new environmental regulation. We, along with other industrialized nations, can lower carbon emissions and still generate massive growth. Dozens of the world's largest companies have reduced carbon emissions by 12 percent, and major oil companies report their methane emissions have declined by 40 percent while oil production is steadily increasing. America needs free-market innovation, not manipulative tax code changes, and job-killing policies, especially during a pandemic!

As Ryan Ellis of the Center for a Free Economy correctly observes, as COVID-19-related legislation continues to be rushed through Congress this year, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and President Trump must stop all sneaky "Green New Deal" tax provisions.

We are not out of this pandemic, but the American people can overcome any obstacle. Using disaster and death to enact an extreme agenda must stop. Let's re-elect President Trump, make real progress on ending the pandemic, and get Americans back to work.

Dancing On Graves, Clueless On China, Exploiting Cain

Gary Bauer
by Gary Bauer, Contributing Author: Dancing On Graves
Barack Obama yesterday upheld what's becoming a sad Democrat tradition -- turning a funeral into a political rally. It has happened several times in recent years, and most infamously at Minnesota Senator Paul Wellstone's funeral in 2002.

There were many disturbing statements from the former president during his eulogy for the late Rep. John Lewis, including this obscene attack on law enforcement: "George Wallace may be gone, but we can witness our federal government sending agents to use tear gas and batons against peaceful demonstrators."

Where is the former president's outrage against rioting, the destruction of minority businesses and jobs, the surge of crime and violence, the assaults against police and the loss of innocent lives? Nowhere. Just as he did when he was president, Obama is most comfortable when he's attacking law enforcement.

But even more disturbing was Obama's attack on the filibuster. That procedure has been a check against radical change in America since its first use in 1837.

If you want to make something law, you have to get a majority in the House, a supermajority in the Senate (due to the filibuster) and a president who won't veto the legislation.

Yes, the filibuster has frustrated conservatives. But eliminating it is not something we should want to do UNLESS we believe that is exactly what the left intends do if it gets power.

When Obama called for the end of the filibuster rule and falsely labeled it as a racist "Jim Crow relic," he ended the debate within the Democrat Party. Proving the point, socialist Bernie Sanders flipped his position yesterday and now supports ending it. If Democrats win the Senate and the White House, they will end the filibuster.

Why? Because as of now, it looks like the GOP is in real danger of losing control of the Senate this November. We've got 95 days to turn that around. But you must understand what is coming at us.

Obama, Biden and Sanders now want to eliminate the filibuster because they believe they will control everything after the elections. And they intend to ram their radical agenda down our throats by any means necessary.

They want to add more justices to the Supreme Court. The number of justices on the high court is fixed by law. But that law can be changed, and viola, you can jam through two or three more justices, creating a whole new left-wing majority.

They will make Washington, D.C., a state, guaranteeing two more left-wing senators.

They want a massive amnesty that will take states like Arizona, Florida and Texas off the table in any future election.

In short, their agenda is meant to guarantee that people who believe in our values will never win another presidential election or govern America ever again.

Obama's statement yesterday was a huge signal that the left is preparing to essentially wage a civil war in a narrowly divided country. He told half of the American people yesterday that their values will be crushed.

We must defeat the radical left!

Clueless On China
Dianne Feinstein is a powerful U.S. senator from California. You may recall that she once had a Chinese spy on her Senate payroll for years when she served as chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Yet during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing yesterday, Feinstein claimed that China is "a country growing into a respectable nation amongst other nations. I deeply believe that."

No, senator, it is not becoming respectable.

The Chinese regime is becoming more totalitarian and more aggressive against its own people and the rest of the world.

The Chinese communists have Muslims in concentration camps. They are forcibly harvesting organs from prisoners.

They are ordering Christians to take down crosses and pictures of Christ, replacing them with pictures of President Xi. They are spying on the Vatican. They are occupying Tibet and persecuting Buddhists.

According to FBI Director Christopher Wray, communist China's massive spying and espionage is America's biggest threat. And they repeatedly lied about the coronavirus!

What about any of this does Senator Feinstein find "respectable"?

If any Republican said Russia was becoming a respectable nation, the media firestorm would last for weeks. And rightly so.

So, where is the outrage over Feinstein's clueless remarks about communist China?

Exploiting Cain
Herman Cain was good man. I had the pleasure of meeting of him many times. Sadly, his death was exploited by the media as another opportunity to attack the president and conservatives.

The only thing some reporters and pundits said about Cain's passing was that he went to a Trump rally, got Covid and died. (Here, here and here.) No one knows where Cain contracted Covid, but even dead conservatives can't rest in peace.

Speaking Of Covid. . .
There's a consensus forming among the media that the president somehow mishandled the coronavirus challenge. No one has offered one thing that they would have done differently.

No nation that I know of has handled the pandemic particularly well and most nations have suffered greatly. Next to earthquakes and tornadoes, pandemics are perhaps the most difficult things to predict and protect against.

Meanwhile, much of what the president and his administration have accomplished is being ignored. For example:
  • The Trump Administration used emergency powers to authorize the creation of multiple Covid tests.
  • The U.S. has conducted more than 40 million Covid tests, far exceeding any other nation.
Through Operation Warp Speed, the administration and private companies are working to produce a vaccine in record time, with the goal of producing 300 million doses by January.
  • The administration is using the Defense Production Act to bring essential manufacturing for PPE and vital medicines back home rather than leave America dependent on communist China.
By the way, Dr. Anthony Fauci testified before a House committee today. He was asked by Rep. Steve Scalise whether he advised the president on the China travel ban. Fauci said he did. Asked whether he thought the president's decision to ban travel from China saved lives, Fauci said, "Yes I do."

Joe Biden initially condemned Trump's travel ban and then flip-flopped when polls showed the ban was overwhelmingly popular.

Open Schools This Fall

by Star Parker: President Donald Trump announced at the White House his unequivocal commitment to getting America's schools back open.

"So what we want to do is we want to get our schools open," he said. "We want to get them open quickly, beautifully, in the fall."

When the COVID-19 crisis was just beginning to grip the nation in March, parents were already concerned about the impact of school closings on their child's education.

A Gallup poll showed 42% of parents expressing concern that the crisis would have a negative effect on their child's learning.

Of these parents, the most concern was among nonwhite parents, with 52% concerned, compared with white parents, 36% of whom were concerned.

Nearly twice as many nonwhite parents, 39%, compared with 21% of white parents, said the school year should be extended into the summer months if schools remain closed for the remainder of the regular school year.

A new report from the Los Angeles Unified School District, the nation's second largest school district, sharpens the picture regarding why parents, particularly black and Latino parents, are concerned.

According to the report, 67% of Latino and 67% of black middle school students have been actively participating in online classes. Among high school students, 73% of Latino and 71% of black students have been actively participating.

This compared with 88% of white middle school students and 85% of white high school students.

Two prestigious organizations now urge that schools reopen and emphasize how critically important physical presence is in education.

The American Academy of Pediatrics has issued its "Guidance for School Re-entry" report. It provides extensive guidance for safe reopening and operation of schools. It begins saying: "(T)he AAP strongly advocates that all policy considerations for the coming school year should start with a goal of having students physically present in school. The importance of in-person learning is well-documented, and there is already evidence of the negative impacts on children because of school closures in the spring of 2020."

Now the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine has published its new report with a press release headline reading, "Schools Should Prioritize Reopening in Fall 2020, Especially for Grades K-5, While Weighing Risks and Benefits."

"Without in-person instruction, schools risk children falling behind academically and exacerbating educational inequities," according to the release.

Both the president and Education Secretary Betsy DeVos have suggested the possibility of withholding federal funding from schools that refuse to reopen.

Who has been on the front line pushing back against the president? Yes, of course, the teachers unions.

"No one should listen to Trump, DeVos on reopening schools," says the president of the National Education Association in a recent headline.

No surprise. The NEA's priority has never been educating children. Its priority is protecting its members — teachers.

Teachers get paid whether schools are open or not. What do leaders of teachers unions care about the hard word needed to create a safe environment now so children can be physically present in school — the only real viable option for learning? They don't care.

Most recently, both the major teachers unions, the NEA and the American Federation of Teachers, filed briefs in the Espinoza v. Montana Department of Revenue case urging the court to rule in favor of the state to deny tax credit-financed scholarships to parents who want to send their children to religious schools.

Fortunately, in this landmark case, the court ruled in favor of the plaintiffs: the mothers who filed suit claiming that making scholarship funds available to everyone except parents who choose religious schools for their children violates constitutionally protected free exercise of religion.

Responsible, free people courageously balance risks and competing objectives to come up with creative solutions.

We know the measures we must take to battle COVID-19. We can make schools physically safe. We also know what measures to take to prevent ruining a child's future by depriving them of the education they must have. We must get them to school.

Riots and Demonstrations from Portland to Jerusalem

Caroline Glick
by Caroline Glick: In under a week, two events happened at The New York Times—the arbiter of liberal news and opinion—which highlight the growing precariousness of the American Jewish community’s position in the Democratic Party.

On July 8, the Times published an op-ed by Peter Beinart, a far-left American Jewish writer and self-anointed spokesperson for liberal Jewish opinion on Israel.

Beinart’s article, entitled, “I no longer believe in a Jewish state,” argued that Israel no longer has a right to exist. It should be destroyed and replaced by a non-Jewish state. Beinart ended his article by urging American Jews to get over their Holocaust-induced fear of genocide and join him in his rejection of Jewish national rights.

To be clear, Beinart’s position is anti-Semitic.

The Obama administration adopted the definition of anti-Semitism published in 2016 by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA). IHRA’s definition includes a list of common manifestations of anti-Jewish bigotry. Among those manifestations are, “Denying the Jewish people their right to self-determination, e.g., by claiming that the existence of the State of Israel is a racist endeavor.”

Beinart’s declaration that he has joined the jackals came as no surprise to those who had been paying attention. For the past decade, Beinart has been arguing that Israel’s right to exist is contingent on its willingness to satisfy his American Jewish preferences. In his Times article, Beinart proclaimed that Israel is not delivering the goods. So as far as he is concerned, Israel needs to stop existing.

Beinart’s advocacy of Israel’s demise is significant not so much for what it says about American Jewish views of Israel (80 percent of American Jews support Israel and two-thirds feel an emotional attachment to the Jewish state), but for what it says about the political Left’s view of Israel—and of Jews.

This is the case because for the better part of the past decade, Beinart has served as a weathervane of leftist opinion on Israel and Jews, and as a fig leaf for leftist anti-Semitism.

In 2012, Beinart began advocating on behalf of the campaign to boycott, divest and sanction Israeli Jewish businesses, institutions and communities in unified Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria (the West Bank), and products produced by Israeli Jews in those areas. His position earned him a prominent spot as the go-to Jew in the progressive camp.

Beinart’s decision to move from boycotting some Israeli Jews and some parts of Israel to rejecting Israel’s right to exist in any borders was not a function of a shift in liberal Jewish opinion. It was a reflection of the shift in opinion regarding Jews and the Jewish state on the political Left in America.

This is a tragedy for the American Jewish community. According to a 2018 survey by the Jewish Federations of North America, 50 percent of American Jews define themselves as liberals. In 2019, Pew found that 64 percent of American Jews identify with the Democratic Party.

To get a sense of just how inhospitable the political Left and the Democratic Party have become to liberal, pro-Israel American Jews, it is worth considering the source Beinart furnished to present his bigoted view as an expression of progressive opinion in America.

Beinart linked to a survey of U.S. opinion of Israel and the Palestinians conducted in 2018 by Shibley Telhami at the University of Maryland. The survey found that 42 percent of Americans aged 18 to 34 support Israel’s destruction and replacement with a non-Jewish state. 55 percent of Democrats (and 19 percent of Republicans) believe the Israeli government has too much influence on U.S. politics and policies.

According to the IHRA definition of anti-Semitism, “Making…stereotypical allegations about Jews as such or the power of Jews as a collective” is a manifestation of anti-Semitism. By asserting that Israel exerts undue influence over U.S. politics and policies, 55 percent of Democrats (and 19 percent of Republicans) were channeling an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory. And 42 percent of young Americans have embraced the main pillar of contemporary anti-Semitism: the racist rejection of the Jewish people’s right to national self-determination.

This brings us to the second major event that occurred at The New York Times with dire implications for the American Jewish community: the July 14 resignation of pro-Israel staff op-ed editor and writer Bari Weiss. Among other things, in her letter of resignation, Weiss discussed the anti-Semitic harassment she suffered at the hands of her colleagues.

In her words, “My own forays into Wrongthink have made me the subject of constant bullying by colleagues who disagree with my views. They have called me a Nazi and a racist; I have learned to brush off comments about how I’m ‘writing about the Jews again.'”

Like Beinart, Weiss has spent the past several years adapting to the Left’s rising hostility to Israel and to Jews. Unlike Beinart, Weiss has not coped by embracing the hatred. Instead, she has sought to negotiate with the Left to secure a space for Jewish rights on the political Left.

Weiss’ bargain was fairly cut and dry. She served as a spokesperson for the allegation that President Donald Trump is the enabler-in-chief of white nationalist anti-Semitism. And in exchange, she sought the right to criticize anti-Semitism on the Left, as she did, to the indignation of progressives, in an August 2017 column describing the anti-Semitism of the leaders of the Women’s March against Trump.

Weiss did her best to uphold the bargain she hoped to make. She distinguished herself as a major voice castigating Trump in the aftermath of the massacre of Jewish worshipers at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh in October 2018. Appearing on the “Real Time with Bill Maher” show days after the slaughter, Weiss effectively accused Trump of partial culpability for the massacre, despite the fact that it was carried out by an anti-Trump white nationalist who opposed the president precisely because he is not an anti-Semite.

In her words, Trump was guilty of “inculcating an atmosphere of conspiracy-minded thinking” which, she alleged, incited the murderer to kill elderly Jews.

In 2019, Weiss used the Tree of Life massacre as the basis of a book called, How to Fight Anti-Semitism.

Weiss presented her book as a taxonomy of anti-Semitism in America and a guide for Jews to stand up for themselves. But more than a summation and guide, it was a case study of the liberal Jewish predicament in contemporary America.

Weiss reinstated her attacks on Trump as an enabler of white nationalist anti-Semitism in America. As she put it, “In the nearly three years he has been in office, Donald Trump has trashed—gleefully and shamelessly—the unwritten rules of our society that have kept American Jews, and, therefore, America safe.”

The unfairness of her condemnations of Trump became clear when they were compared to her analysis of anti-Semitism in her own political and ideological camp.

Trump has never had much of anything to do with white nationalist anti-Semites—or any anti-Semites, for that matter. The worst he can be fairly accused of is not always rushing to distance himself from them, and of using indelicate language to describe his admiration for and affinity towards American Jews.

In contrast, former president Barack Obama spent 25 years in the pews of anti-Semitic pastor Jeremiah Wright. During his presidency, Obama had Al Sharpton over to the White House more than 80 times. Obama demonized and attacked Israel and its Jewish supporters while emboldening anti-Semites in the U.S. and worldwide.

But Weiss’ criticism of Obama was rare, apologetic and mild. And she gave a pass to other Democratic leaders. Weiss described progressive anti-Semitism as real and dangerous, but she tread cautiously around the big fish.

Weiss’ rush to present Trump as the enabler-in-chief of white nationalist anti-Semitism and her careful, almost clinical description of anti-Semitism in her own political camp, was an expression of the bargain she sought to strike with the Left.

Weiss’ letter of resignation, replete with its description of the anti-Semitic ostracism she suffered at the hands of her progressive colleagues at the Left’s newspaper of record, makes clear that she had no partner for her bargain. Today, the American Left is not interested in making any deals; not with her, and not with the liberal Jews she emblemizes. The modern American Left is not willing to combat or disavow anti-Semitism of any kind, unless it can be attributed to Donald J. Trump, Public Enemy Number One.

In the current environment, the only Jews who are welcome at the Times—and through it—in the progressive camp and the progressive-dominated Democratic Party are those who maintain a frightened silence, or Jews like Beinart who are willing to promote anti-Semitic positions “as Jews.”

Will The Virus Ever Allow The U.S. Economy To Fully Reopen Again?

by Robert Romano: The U.S. economy contracted a record-setting, inflation-adjusted, annualized 32.9 percent in the second quarter of 2020 according to the latest data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis as tens of millions of Americans waited out the Chinese coronavirus in their homes, not venturing out much except for work and needed supplies.

The second quarter comprises of April, May and June, when in Bureau of Labor Statistics’ household survey 25 million jobs were lost by April and then 8.8 million came back in May and June as states slowly began reopening.

It was by far the worst quarter in American history including the Great Depression, and gives you an idea of what a catastrophe the pandemic has been to the U.S. economy.

And that’s with the $3.3 trillion of deficit-spending Congress has pumped into the economy since the beginning of the year — and counting as Congress considers phase four legislation — to cover payroll protection for small businesses, expanded unemployment benefits, checks to every household, plus payments to critical industries, larger businesses and state and local governments.

When you ignore what the government did via the massive spending — government spending is calculated as a part of GDP — the hit to the private sector and the American people came in at a whopping 39.1 percent.

Consider that. Closing the economy for a few months cut the private sector almost in half.

Personal consumption was down 34.6 percent. That includes an 11.3 percent drop in goods consumption and a 43.5 percent drop in services consumption.

Gross private domestic investment was down 49.0 percent.

That was offset by a 17 percent increase in federal government consumption expenditures.

All of that is the equivalent of an asteroid hitting the economy.

Now, some good news. The summertime spike in new daily COVID-19 cases appears to have stabilized nationwide, including in Texas, Florida, Arizona and California, which had seen a wave of new cases as those states began reopening before changing course and making adjustments to reopening strategies.

Additionally, the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation projects that, even with states still continuing reopening, daily cases will be dropping through August and September, until the cold and flu season begins again in the fall.

That gives the American people something of a reprieve for the rest of summer.

But there’s bad news too. The pace of economic recovery has appeared to slow down in recent weeks amid further volatility in labor markets, where on a continuing basis those on continuing unemployment claims from the Department of Labor has stabilized at about 17 million Americans the past four weeks after dropping significantly from its high-water mark of 22.8 million on May 9.

The states that contributed the most to continued claims the week of July 18 were California, which saw unemployment rise 464,000, and Texas, which saw it rise 111,000, which have significantly slowed down the national pace of reopening. Pennsylvania added 85,000 and Michigan added 54,000.

But because those job losses are coming later in the month, they may not be accounted for in the July monthly report that comes out from the Bureau of Labor Statistics next week.

The clear predictor here is the number of daily new cases per state, and state actions to shut down their economies again. Meaning, as the virus abates the rest of the summer somewhat, you might expect a bit more reopening, and the third quarter should show a significant bounce back economically.

But once we head into September, October and November with the cold and flu season, as cases rise again, so too will the job losses likely begin mounting again. Everything could begin shutting down again.

That is why Americans, in order to safely return to work, and for children to safely return to schools, we need confidence. If it’s not a vaccine, then we’ll be needing treatments and cures — if not hydroxychloroquine that the President has touted, then something else — to supplement Americans’ immune systems as a stopgap.

But so far the federal government is not recommending anything be taken preventively. According to the Food and Drug Administration website, “there are no proven treatments for COVID-19 and no vaccine.”

Here’s the rub. Everyone’s sitting around waiting for a safe and effective vaccine as a predicate for reopening. The phase three clinical trials for the Moderna vaccine, mRNA-1273, began on July 27. A July 28 New England Journal of Medicine study found that in non-human primates, “mRNA-1273 induced robust SARS-CoV-2 neutralizing activity, rapid protection in the upper and lower airways, and no pathologic changes in the lung.” So that could be good.

But what if the vaccine doesn’t work for humans? After all, there’s never been an effective vaccine for a coronavirus in human history, including SARS.

The longer we remain without a stopgap, the less confidence the American people will have, and likely the worse the economy will do going forward, especially as we head into the cold and flu seasons. Looking back at the ten recessions that have occurred since 1948, it took on average 16 months after reaching a labor market bottom to recover.

But in the Great Recession, which from peak employment in Nov. 2007 to the bottom in Dec. 2009, saw 8.3 million jobs lost and the U.S. economy did not get them back until in Sept. 2014. It took almost five years just to get back the jobs lost. In the current case, up to 25 million jobs have been lost when the labor market bottomed in April, and about 8 million or so have been recovered. How quickly will we recover this time?

If we’re still having this conversation about the lack of effective vaccines and treatments in December and in 2021, we’ll have a choice to make. Either, we take our chances knowing there is nothing that can be done to stop the virus short of dramatic upheaval to our way of life, devastating school closures and leaving everything shut down, with millions of jobs lost, or the economy — and our country — may never recover.

Democrats Stand By China Spy Consulate

by Daniel Greenfield: On Tuesday, Houston firefighters arrived at 3417 Montrose Boulevard. Neighbors had reported smoke and a burning smell at the Chinese consulate. The consulate, which had been given 72 hours to close by the State Department, did not let them in even as the smoke continued to waft into the summer air.

Video showed consulate employees throwing paper into burning bins.

“We have directed the closure of PRC Consulate General Houston, in order to protect American intellectual property and American’s private information," the State Department had warned.

The Houston consulate had become notorious for trying to intimidate American elected officials in Texas and nearby states, as well as American energy companies, especially those doing business in Asia. Some have also linked the Houston consulate to Chinese espionage against American tech and medical firms.

FBI investigations into the Houston consulate involved theft of medical research, recruiting researchers to get at scientific secrets, and forcing Chinese nationals to return to the People’s Republic of China.

Why would the People’s Republic of China have thought that Houston would be a safe base for spying on and intimidating Americans? Houston and Texas Democrats quickly rushed to provide the answer.

Rep. Al Green, who had hosted a luncheon at the spy consulate, accused President Trump of racism.

“Don’t give the impression, please Mr. President, that they are all spies,” Green whined. “My appeal is to the president to understand that his words take on a meaning that can be harmful to other people.”

Rep. Green then went on to suggest that Trump had endangered his constituents by referring to the pandemic as the 'China virus', and suggested that Trump's actions might be leading to "more anti-Asian American violence, or worse, internment.”

While shamelessly playing the race card, for a race he doesn’t belong to, the Democrat did not discuss his own collaboration with the spy consulate.

Rep. Green had co-hosted a Houston press conference with Consul General Cai Wei of the spy consulate, whom he described as a friend, with Chinese state media in attendance, at which the Democrat urged local residents not to worry about the virus, and described himself and Wei as a “committee of two”.

The Houston Democrat boasted that the enemy consulate was close enough for him to walk to.

That's the same Wei who had been accused of using fake identification to get Chinese nationals through the airport, with whom Rep. Green, an American official, had been meeting with on a regular basis.

Texas state representative Gene Wu, who had also been at the press conference, warned that, "in retaliation, China may basically stop all the investments and tell companies to pull out of here."

Green and Wu were far from the only Democrats playing defense for the Communist dictatorship.

Democrat sanctuary cities don’t just provide sanctuary for illegal aliens, but for enemy spies.

The Trump administration had already ordered the shutdown of the Russian consulate in San Francisco over its espionage. And the Chinese consulate appears as if it will be next. But if the Chinese consulate in Houston was able to garner the support of Democrats at the local and national level, the situation in San Francisco is expected to be much worse because of Chi-Com infiltration of California Democrats.

Chinese intelligence officials at the San Francisco consulate had successfully recruited a staffer at Senator Dianne Feinstein’s San Francisco office and the situation at the local level is much worse.

And Democrats, instead of supporting their country, are once again undermining it in favor of China.

The same Democrat officials who had castigated President Trump for not trusting the “intelligence community” are the ones rejecting intelligence findings about China’s spy networks.

Senator Angus King suggested that the move was a political stunt by President Trump. "Is it really about confronting China, or does it have something to do with an election in four months?"

Former Senator Max Baucus, Obama's ambassador to the Communist dictatorship, has falsely claimed that the closure was "electioneering".

“This is the wrong way to handle it," Baucus wheedled. "If Pompeo thinks he is going to quote ‘change Chinese behavior,’ he is gravely mistaken.”

Baucus' China rhetoric has, in recent months, tipped into blatant PRC propaganda, when he compared Trump to Hitler for opposing the brutal dictatorship in an interview with a Chinese propaganda outlet. Baucus has a consulting firm that works with Chinese businesses, and sits on the boards of several Chinese companies. The media outlets who have had Baucus on have not disclosed his ties to China.

"There are a lot of very responsible people in America who know this China-bashing is irresponsible and we will pay a price if it continues. That is all I am saying," he had warned.

The Democrat has claimed that relations with China will improve if Biden wins the presidency. That’s not surprising since Biden and Baucus are good friends, and Baucus got the ambassadorship due to Biden.

Biden’s China ties have made it impossible for Democrats to confront the Communist dictatorship. Instead they’ve decided to accuse President Trump of closing the consulate as an election stunt even though it’s only July and the closure it hardly likely to have any meaningful impact on the election.

Instead of standing with America, the Democrats are trying to shift the onus to President Trump.

“The White House must be transparent and show that it is taking smart and thoughtful action, rather than engaging in brash foreign policy," Rep. Lizzie Fletcher complained.

Meanwhile local Democrats like Rep. Al Green, and local Houston media, are treating the consulate closure as a hate crime perpetrated by President Trump in order to persecute Asian-Americans.

Gordon Quan, a former Houston City Councilman, contended that, "to have the consulate close, to have accusations being made that this is the hotspot for spying, just creates a further cast upon the loyalties of Chinese Americans.”

And the Chinese Communist propagandists have adopted the familiar playbook of the Left, complaining about racism, and whining that PRC embassies are facing bomb threats and angry messages. This propaganda is coming from a brutal regime which has engaged in genocide, ethnic cleansing, and the ruthless suppression of political dissent, ethnic and religious minorities, and anyone who gets in its way.

Chinese Communist consulates in America, including in Houston, have been used to intimidate Chinese residents in America, and to suppress political protests against China in this country. The Communist regime’s diplomatic corps has organized Chinese students to shout down, threaten, and even physically intimidate political opponents on campuses and even off them in San Francisco.

And yet, Democrats and the media insist on treating the Chinese Communist regime as the victim.

The Democrats are more loyal to their hatred for President Trump than they are to America. And even in the face of blatant enemy action, they choose the People’s Republic of China over the United States. A growing number of Democrats have also been directly or indirectly compromised by the enemy regime.

And that makes President Trump’s crackdown on spy consulates in Democrat cities all the more urgent.

When the State Department closed the spy consulate in Houston, Democrats had to choose between standing with Communist China or standing with America. They chose China and they chose treason.

Masking Upside Down

by Paul Jacob, Contributing Author: After initially being downgraded as worthless, perhaps even harmful, masks are now heavily promoted. There are even demands that the federal government step in to make mask-wearing mandatory.

Nationwide.

Bad idea. And I could marshal a number of arguments to make the case. Indeed, one really sticks out: when the CCP virus is no longer the fear, but a bad flu season strikes at an unsuspecting populace, will the masks be required then, too? What's the threshold? How do we decide when to go into all-panic mode?

How much better it would be to argue for mask-wearing as a matter of manners -- consideration for others during pandemics or simply if ill -- than as policeable government policy.

And maybe we should look at it upside down. You know, like we can reflect on school closures in perpetuity as a possible blessing -- because they encourage private and communal responses.

Maybe it is a downside up, but the current pro-mask state mandates mean that governments cannot stop you from wearing masks when they don't want you to wear masks.

All around the world, but especially in Britain, and increasingly in the United States, mass surveillance with face-recognition AI is turning free peoples into the subjects of Big Brother's watchful gaze.

Frightening.

And the easiest way to throw a monkey wrench into face-recognition systems is to wear masks when we are out.

They can hardly stop us when they are requiring masks because of contagion fears. So even if the forces of totalitarian control fail to mandate masks nationally, take the "new normal" as an excuse to mess up their larger agenda.

Big Brother?

You may lose this one after all.

Biden’s Lies for Black (and White-Privilege Guilt) Votes

Joe Biden & Charlamagne tha God
by Larry Elder: “Take a look at my record, man. … I have a record that is second to none. The NAACP has endorsed me every time I’ve run.” — Joe Biden, May 22, 2020, on “The Breakfast Club,” hosted by Charlamagne tha God.

No, the NAACP has not “endorsed” Joe Biden for any of his races, let alone all of them. Following Biden’s claim, the NAACP stated, “We want to clarify that the NAACP is a non-partisan organization and does not endorse candidates for political office at any level.”

There’s the Nelson Mandela lie that Biden told in February at a campaign rally in Columbia, South Carolina, a claim Biden repeated days later at the Nevada Black Legislative Caucus:

“This day 30 years ago, Nelson Mandela walked out of prison and entered into discussions about apartheid. I had the great honor of meeting him. I had the great honor of being arrested with our U.N. ambassador on the streets of Soweto, trying to get to see him on Robbens Island. When he came to the United States, when he came to the White House — to the Senate, I was chairman of the committee. … He walked across in that private room with the big table we have in the executive room, and he walked over. And I said, ‘Mr. President,’ and he leaned out and he said, ‘Thank you, thank you for trying to come and see me.'”

But Snopes, a left-leaning fact-checker website, corrected Biden’s claim:

“Firstly, the former vice president claimed in South Carolina to have been arrested along with the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, a reference to [Andrew] Young, a Georgia congressman who traveled to Lesotho with Biden in December 1976 before he became U.N. ambassador (and who later served as mayor of Atlanta during the 1980s).

“In February 2020, Young told both The New York Times and The Washington Post that he himself had never been arrested in South Africa, and he said he did not think Biden was either.

“Secondly, in the same South Carolina speech, Biden said he was arrested with Young ‘on the streets of Soweto’ while trying to visit Mandela on Robben Island (Biden repeatedly and mistakenly referred to the place where Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years as ‘Robbens Island’).

“On its face, this claim appears utterly implausible since Soweto, a township of South Africa’s largest city Johannesburg, is located nearly 900 miles northeast of Robben Island, which is off the coast of Cape Town — the two locations are effectively on opposite ends of the country.”

Then there’s Biden’s alleged civil rights record:

“When I was 17, I participated in sit-ins to desegregate restaurants and movie houses. And my stomach turned upon hearing the voices of [Arkansas Democratic Gov. Orval] Faubus and [Alabama Democratic Gov. George] Wallace. My soul raged on seeing [Birmingham, Alabama Commissioner of Public Safety] Bull Connor and his dogs.” — Biden, 1983, at the New Jersey State Democratic Convention.

“As a young man, he took part in sit-ins to desegregate restaurants along U.S. 40 in Delaware,” reported the Baltimore Sun following an interview with Biden in 1986.

A Morning News article in September 1975 said that Biden “joined in sit-ins to desegregate restaurants along U.S. 40 before he joined the Senate.”

“When I was 17 years old, I participated in sit-ins to desegregate restaurants and movie houses of Wilmington, Delaware.” –Biden, 1987, California Democratic Convention.

“Well, I got my education … in the Black church. Not a joke — because when we used to get organized on Sundays to go out and desegregate movie theaters and things like that, we’d do it through the Black church. I got to admit to you I’d go to my Catholic mass at 7:30 first, and then I’d show up in the Black church.” –Joe Biden, Dec. 6, 2019, Iowa campaign stop.

But last year, The New York Times wrote: “In … 1987 … more than once, advisers had gently reminded Mr. Biden of the problem with this formulation: he had not actually marched during the civil rights movement. And more than once, Mr. Biden assured them he understood — and kept telling the story anyway.”

Biden and the race card have had a long, cozy relationship.

Recall that Biden, during the Obama-Biden 2012 reelection campaign, said to a racially mixed crowd: “Romney wants to let the — he said in the first 100 days, he’s going to let the big banks once again write their own rules, ‘unchain Wall Street.’ They’re going to put y’all back in chains.”

And this year, in the interview with Charlemagne Tha God, Biden said, “You got more questions, but I tell ya, if you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t Black.”

What do these repeated lies illustrate? Biden sees Black people as pawns to whom condescending lies can be told with no fear of retribution, no matter how blatant the falsehood.

Herman Cain, Business Executive and Conservative Favorite, Felled by COVID-19

Herman Cain - Mr. 9-9-9
by Ken McIntyre : Herman Cain, who rose from working-class beginnings in Georgia to become an admired pizza magnate, popular political commentator, and leading Republican presidential contender, has died of COVID-19, his website announced Thursday. He was 74.

Along the way to national prominence, Cain was a Navy specialist in ballistic missiles, ran some 400 Burger Kings around Philadelphia, and hosted a radio talk show.

Dan Calabrese, editor of HermanCain.com and a friend and associate of 15 years, released word of Cain’s death.

“There were hopeful indicators, including a mere five days ago when doctors told us they thought he would eventually recover, although it wouldn’t be quick,” Calabrese wrote of the coronavirus that felled Cain.

“Although he was basically pretty healthy in recent years, he was still in a high-risk group because of his history with cancer.”

Cain became one of the most prominent business or political figures to die of the coronavirus.

The future presidential candidate first came to the GOP’s attention in 1994, when he calmly and respectfully challenged President Bill Clinton’s proposed restructuring of health care in a nationally televised town hall.

At the time, Cain was the successful CEO of Nebraska-based Godfather’s Pizza, a subsidiary of the Pillsbury Co. He later headed the National Restaurant Association in Washington, D.C.

On a day when the nation was watching elaborate memorial tributes to the civil rights leadership of a fellow Georgian, Rep. John Lewis, news Thursday of Cain’s death from the coronavirus spurred some political opponents to deride the entrepreneur for his loyalty to President Donald Trump rather than appreciate his dogged efforts to create promising jobs for fellow blacks and other minorities.

In particular, ungracious critics mocked Cain for publicly doubting that COVID-19 was a serious public health threat and for dismissing the wisdom of wearing a protective mask in attending Trump’s much-criticized June 20 rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

In a tweet Thursday, Trump praised Cain as a business leader and friend.
Cain, who had just launched a new talk show on Newsmax, was among black leaders mocked on “Saturday Night Live” for meeting with Trump at the White House early this year.

During his ascension in business and politics, Cain befriended two leading congressmen and fellow conservatives from Georgia, Newt Gingrich and Jack Kemp.
An early tea party favorite, Cain became a front-runner in the primaries for the 2012 presidential nomination while pitching his catchy 9-9-9 tax reform plan. He drew fierce blowback from liberals and the news media when, during an appearance at The Heritage Foundation and later on CBS News’ “Meet the Press,” he referred to Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider, as “planned genocide” of blacks.

He dropped out of the race in December 2011 amid allegations of sexual harassment while he headed the National Restaurant Association. Cain denied the allegations, telling Fox News that October: “I have never sexually harassed anyone.”

In some ways, Cain foreshadowed Trump’s own emergence as a serious presidential contender with a business background.

In a 2014 interview with The Daily Signal’s Rob Bluey, Cain criticized Congress for not getting serious about tax reform, especially simplification. He personally favored “replacing the entire tax code,” he said.

“People in Congress think that if it’s too big to do, they don’t even try,” Cain said in the interview. “That is the complete opposite of the way the American people think. Somebody’s got to step up and do the tough jobs and heavy lifting.”

Cain, also an associate pastor at Atlanta’s Antioch Baptist Church, withdrew last year as Trump’s nominee to the Federal Reserve Board amid pushback from several Senate Republicans.

Supporters noted that Cain, in addition to his business success, had been deputy chairman and chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.

Cain’s coronavirus infection became known June 29 and he never left the hospital after being admitted two days later.

Years ago, he beat liver cancer and stage 4 colon cancer, which along with his age may have increased his vulnerability to the virus.

Cain is survived by his wife Gloria, daughter Melanie Gallo, son Vincent Cain, and several grandchildren.

Here are some of the tweets that reflect his admirers’ tributes amid crude comments on his death from some on the left.

Why The NFL Just Declared War on The Church

by Mario Murillo Ministries: A deal reached by the National Football League and the NFL Players Association bans players from attending any indoor church services that are above 25 percent capacity, multiple sources told NBC Sports on Saturday.

There are some who will say, “But Mario, they have not declared war on the Church, they are just trying to protect their players.” Maybe this will help you see why that is not plausible:

The deal made no mention of any restrictions on attending protests. Meanwhile, the NFL’s Twitter account has been sharing and celebrating pictures of players engaging in protests around the country.
Marching shoulder to shoulder in tight crowds shouting—even with masks—is a far greater risk than attending church. The goal is eradicating Christianity from America, yet believers are having a hard time recognizing this as yet another piece of the puzzle.

And get this: The NFL not only wants to ban players from attending church, they want others to rat them out if they do go to church.

NBC Sports speculates that teams may “rely on contacts within the community to contact the team if/when violations are witnessed,” or even use a tip line. In other words, members of the community would be encouraged to report players they see trying to attend church and not following the social distancing guidelines. Other ideas suggested by NBC include tracking players or stationing officials at “local establishments,” potentially including players’ houses of worship.” Really?! Sending informants to churches?!

How often I have warned you. The Coronavirus is the excuse for banning Christianity in America.
Why do they want to ban the Church? The answer is a deep one. You must begin by looking at the food chain. In order of descending levels, here is the food chain:

Street rioters

Leftist professors

Marxist/Socialist leaders

Democrat Politicians

The Deep State (Barack Obama, et al.)

Globalists (George Soros and Co.)

Satan

Each level of the chain does not know who is above them or what their true intentions are. Each level has been duped by lies.
The NFL assault against American values began with Colin Kaepernick, then increased with the virus, and is intensifying under the banner of Black Lives Matter. This is nothing less than war being waged against our faith and freedoms.

Here’s the one thing that every tentacle of this global monster relies on: The apathy of the American Church and her inability to act as a single force. We are the one group they know they can offend and get away with it—the one group that remains passive in the face of evil.

Behind it all is Satan. Here is what I wrote in Chapter 2 of Vessels of Fire and Glory:

“Satan needs to destroy America. It’s his grand prize. The need consumes him. He fantasizes about it. He pursues the destruction of the U.S. with extreme prejudice and unrelenting patience. Why do you need to know about Satan’s passion to destroy America? Without this insight, you cannot muster the necessary urgency to obey God. You must know what is at stake, to be willing to pay the price.

“America is a firewall that prevents the one event Satan craves most: global anarchy. Anarchy is the only thing that will make the world embrace the devil’s worldwide dictatorship. This is why the most important goal of evil is chaos.”

Why do I tell you this? Because I believe the enemy is wrong about the American Church. I believe leftists confuse our kindness with weakness and mistake our patience for powerlessness. Neither do they realize that even a few intercessor warriors, plus God, makes a majority! Satan always forgets the promise that “the gates of hell will not prevail against the Church.” Our best weapon is not to respond with the obligatory boycott—although, I can’t imagine watching a single NFL game after this latest assault on Christianity. Our most powerful weapon is prayer and the anointing that breaks the yoke!

But we also have immediate duties. If we don’t act soon it will be too late. We must vote for Trump. Marxists want him out and that makes it beyond urgent to keep him in. Revivalists and the prophetic core must close ranks. We must pull away from the ‘woke believers’ who are actually ‘make-believers’. The Bible describes them as “having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!” (2 Timothy 3:5)

The Left is doing the work of the enemy of God, but Christian apathy is both the Left’s greatest friend and our greatest enemy.

I will repeat what I said in my book: “Why do you need to know about Satan’s passion to destroy America? Without this insight, you cannot muster the necessary urgency to obey God. You must know what is at stake to be willing to pay the price.”
