Government Radical Social Engineering

The American Dream: The control freaks that run the U.S. government are busy imposing their values on all the rest of us, and most Americans have absolutely no idea what is happening. The Obama administration and members of Congress are engaged in radical social engineering, and they are trying to reshape America so that it conforms to their own twisted vision of "morality". Instead of focusing on fixing the economy and administering the government, these sick control freaks actually want to fundamentally alter what Americans believe to be right and wrong.

There is no denying that the U.S. government has a "morality agenda", it is just not the kind of "morality agenda" that we are all used to thinking of. Sadly, our leaders are spending huge amounts of money and going into lots more debt in an attempt to impose a certain code of morality on the American people and the rest of the world. At a time when this nation is drowning in debt, it seems quite foolish to be spending so much money on radical social engineering programs. But that is exactly what is happening.

But no matter how much money they spend, I am never going to be convinced
- that touching the private parts of women and children at U.S. airports is necessary for national security.
- that the indefinite detention of American citizens without a trial is necessary for national security.
- to accept their version of "sexual morality".

The U.S. government is never going to be able to change what is "right" and what is "wrong", but they sure are giving it their best shot. The following are 12 very disturbing examples of radical social engineering by the U.S. government....

#1 The White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships recently held a call during which religious leaders were encouraged to promote the flu vaccine during their worship services.

#2 The Obama administration has announced a plan to use U.S. foreign aid as a tool to promote gay rights in foreign nations.

#3 The U.S. Senate recently voted to legalize sodomy and bestiality for members of the U.S. military.

#4 The Obama administration is on the verge of allowing the "morning after pill" to be sold on supermarket shelves right next to toilet paper and toothpaste.

#5 In some areas of the country, the U.S. Department of Veterans  Affairs has been caught banning the words "God" and "Jesus" during funeral services for veterans.

#6 A tool developed by the CDC is being used to conduct "door to door disaster preparedness assessments" in some areas of the United States. It is a complete mystery why authorities feel the need to conduct door to door inspections of how "prepared" we all are. The following comes from a local news report in Tennessee.... The Metro Public Health and the Tennessee Department of Health will be using a tool designed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to go door to door and check to see how disaster ready you are. The door to door assessment will take place from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday. It will be in 30 neighborhoods in Davidson County that have been randomly selected to be the target of a door to door assessment.

#7 The EPA has instituted a new effort to get more people to quit using traditional wood-burning stoves. The following comes from a recent Natural News report.... But the EPA is now expressing concern about the 80 percent-or-so of wood stove users that still rely on non-EPA approved models. Most of the wood stoves manufactured before 1990 do not contain the EPA's certification stamp of approval which, in the eyes of the agency, means they are an unnecessary contributor of excess environmental pollution.

#8 The U.S. government appears to be trying to chill free speech all over the nation. For example, it was recently revealed that the FBI is actually paying a company to record as many Internet talk radio programs as possible. The following comes from a recent article by Mark Weaver of WMAL.com.... If you call a radio talk show and get on the air, you might be recorded by the FBI. The FBI has awarded a $524,927 contract to a Virginia company to record as much radio news and talk programming as it can find on the Internet. The FBI says it is not playing big brother by policing the airwaves, but rather seeking access to what airs as potential evidence.

#9 The U.S. government spends huge amounts of money studying sexual behavior in other nations. For example, the National Institutes of Health once spent $442,340 to study the behavior of male prostitutes in Vietnam.

#10 The U.S. government also once spent $2.6 million dollars to study the drinking habits of Chinese prostitutes and once spent $400,000 dollars to pay researchers to cruise bars in Buenos Aires, Argentina to find out why gay men engage in risky sexual behavior when drunk.

#11 The U.S. government is trying to convince all of us that it is "normal" for TSA agents to strip-search and sexually molest elderly Americans at U.S. airports.

#12 The U.S. Senate recently passed a bill that would make our entire country part of the "battleground" in the war on terror and that could end up stripping large numbers of Americans of their constitutional rights. The following comes from a recent article posted on Business Insider.... By the end of next week, the US government very likely will have the power to lock up US citizens for life at Guantanamo Bay or other military prisons -- without charge and without trial. This means that, in the near future, a controversial Twitter post, attending a peaceful protest, or publishing an anti-Congress critique or anti-TSA rant on Google+ could land you "indefinite detention" for life, in the wording of the bill. No access to a lawyer, no access to trial.

Yes, you read that right. This would target American citizens, on American soil. Military personnel would be able to come into your house like something out of a Tom Clancy novel and chopper your innocent self down to Guantanamo Bay for life.

Sadly, there are many more examples that could have been included in this article. The U.S. government is actively trying to change what we think, what we feel and what we believe in dozens of different ways.

I don't want the federal government telling religious leaders to urge us to get vaccinated during their sermons, and I don't want the federal government trying to censor the name of Jesus out of funeral prayers.

. . . [T]he U.S. government is rapidly turning our nation into a "Big Brother" police state. But the federal government is not only trying to control everything that we do. They are also trying to control everything that we think and everything that we believe.

From now on, we all need to pay careful attention to the "moral values" of those that we vote for, because it has become crystal clear that they will almost certainly try to impose those "moral values" on all the rest of us.

Personally, I am disgusted by the "moral values" that the Obama administration and the U.S. Congress are trying to impose on all of us right now. What do all of you think?

Speaker Boehner on the Middle Class Tax Relief & Job Creation Act

In the Weekly Republican Address, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) addresses the Middle Class Tax Relief & Job Creation Act, legislation the House will vote on next week that will help to create thousands of new American jobs while helping families struggling with the consequences of President Obama's failed economic policies.

This jobs bill (H.R. 3630) will extend the payroll tax cut, protect Social Security, reform and extend unemployment insurance, and extend pro-growth tax relief for businesses of all sizes -- while also advancing several bipartisan measures that will directly support the creation of private-sector jobs, including the Keystone XL energy pipeline.

"You've heard President Obama say the American people 'can't wait' to take action on jobs," Boehner said Saturday. "Well, the Keystone project is the very definition of an idea the American people can't wait for Washington to take action on."

"As you may know, the Keystone energy project would create tens of thousands of American jobs and reduce our dependence on oil from the Middle East," Boehner says in the address. "This jobs project has bipartisan support in the House and the Senate. It’s backed by a broad-based coalition, from small businesses to organized labor."

President Obama said during a press conference with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper this week, “any effort to try to tie Keystone [XL pipeline] to the payroll tax cut I will reject.” However, Politico reports today that “to some House Democrats, getting approval for the $7 billion, 1,700-mile pipeline from Alberta oil sands to Texas refineries is a serious effort that should hitch a ride in a must-pass payroll tax cut extension.”

Boehner said, "This is no time for the same-old my-way-or-the-highway theatrics. It's no secret that Democrats and Republicans often disagree about the best way to create jobs, but we can't let those disagreements prevent us from acting when we agree."

Everything in the House bill is offset by spending cuts, rather than through tax increases that would hit small businesses and destroy jobs, as proposed in Senate Democrats' bill.

Also note that 22 House Democrats wrote to President Obama in October, urging approval of the Keystone XL pipeline. “America truly cannot afford to say ‘no’ to this privately funded, $20 billion, jobs-creating infrastructure project, which would bolster our economic, energy and national security.” They pointed out, “With job growth an ongoing struggle for our country, the proposed Keystone XL Pipeline represents a true shovel-ready project that would directly create 20,000 high quality domestic manufacturing and construction jobs for Americans who are desperately seeking employment. The project would also create an additional 118,000 spin-off jobs.”

Making English Official Language Will Reduce the Deficit and Shrink the Debt

Bill Smith, Editor: This article is also a tribute to Robert Cohee, Pat Cohee, Richard Homan, and Mildred Homan in Arkansas who 25 years ago worked very hard with others to bring to fruition Arkansas passing legislation in 1987 stating that "The English language shall be the official language of the state of Arkansas." Readers are welcome to leave tributes in the comment section for others who worked to promote English as the official language for their community or state.

Are you aware that 31 states have some form of official English legislation on the books. However, English which opens the door to equal access to justice and full benefits of being a citizen of the United States is not the official language of the United States. While our founding documents and all subsequent laws, acts and bills have been written in English, and the fact that proficiency in English is the only true avenue that opens full access to understanding the laws, rules and regulations for U.S. Citizens regardless of their original origin, English is still not the official language of the United States.

Ninety-two percent of the world’s countries have at least one official language. (2002 World Almanac, 2001 U.S. Bureau of the Census Estimates. In 2000, 11.9 million U.S. residents lived in linguistically isolated households, meaning that no one living in the household spoke English at home or spoke it “very well.” And, there are 322 languages spoken at home in the United States. (Census 2000)

Consider that it costs $1.86 million annually to prepare written translations for food stamp recipients nationwide. The cost of oral translations is $21 million nationally per year. (U.S. Office of Management and Budget, Report to Congress: Assessment of Total Benefits and Costs of Implementing Executive Order No. 13166: Improving Access to Services for Person with Limited English Proficiency, March 14, 2002). Nearly two-in-three foreign born adults say that the United States should expect all immigrants to learn English. (Public Agenda Survey of 1,002 foreign born adults, 2002). The U.S. Department of Education found that those with limited English proficiency are less likely to be employed, less likely to be employed for a continuous period, tend to work in the least desirable sectors and earn less than those that speak English. (U.S. Department of Education, National Center for Educational Statistics; English Literacy and Language Minorities in the United States, August 2001).

These type facts brings us to the following article written in August 2011 by Suzanne Bibby, Director of Government Relations, English Only (nonpartisan, non-profit organization).

Official English will Reduce the Deficit and Shrink the Debt
For months, the political landscape in Washington, DC has been shaped by the divisive issue known as the debt crisis. Words like “taxes,” “spending,”&“cuts,” and “ceiling” have been parsed and packaged in so many ways partisan lines have all but disintegrated.

One day after the debt ceiling compromise was reached in Congress, the English Language Unity Act of 2011 (H.R. 997) received its 100th cosponsor. H.R. 997 would make English the official language of the United States. [Note the bill now has 106 sponsors.*]

The burdensome costs associated with printing, verbal, written, and website translation services, and bureaucratic know-how fall squarely on American taxpayers. Schools, libraries, hospitals, unemployment offices, fire and police departments, public health clinics, and countless private agencies—many of which receive federal funds—are struggling to keep their doors open because they are forced to provide multilingual services in any foreign language requested or else risk a “discrimination” lawsuit from the Department of Justice. Even the 31 states with official English laws of their own still cannot escape this hefty fiscal burden. Federal unfunded mandates which require local jurisdictions to provide multilingual voter ballots for federal elections make it all but impossible for states to enforce their official English policies and rein in their unnecessary and wasteful spending.

Although the Government Accounting Office (GAO) has refused to provide the amount of taxpayer dollars that fund multilingual services each year, we do have some idea of the annual price tag. In 2009, the Fraser Institute released a study that revealed that Canada, a country with roughly one-tenth the population of the United States, spent between $1.6 billion and $1.8 billion in 2006 to provide taxpayer-funded government services in French as well as English, just two languages. In the U.S., over 300 languages are spoken, so we can extrapolate our cost to be ten times Canada’s. Subsidizing immigrants and non-English-speaking Americans who avoid learning English is not the responsibility of American taxpayers.

If Congress can make good on its pledge to be more fiscally responsible, H.R. 997 is a bill worth advancing because it will save billions of taxpayer dollars every year. Translations and interpreters for people applying for taxpayer-funded federal assistance would no longer be provided at taxpayers’ expense. For example, if a patient covered by Medicaid needed an interpreter for an office visit, under an official English law, it would then be up to the patient, the hospital, medical facility, or physician involved to decide how the service would be covered.

With the ever-changing language demographics of the U.S., the fate of America’s fiscal and cultural health depends on H.R. 997 becoming law.

Illegal Aliens, In-State Tuition And The Law

by Mike Brownfield, Morning Bell, Heritage Foundation: Consider it an illegal fringe benefit for illegal immigrants. Today, 12 states allow individuals who are in the United States illegally to pay the same in-state tuition rates as legal residents of the state without providing the same rates to others in the country who are here legally. And those states are doing it in direct contravention of federal law.

In a new paper, Heritage's Hans von Spakovsky and Charles Stimson explain that in 1996, Congress passed--and President Bill Clinton signed into law--the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act. Under Section 1623 of the law, state colleges and universities are prohibited from providing in-state tuition rates to illegal aliens "on the basis of residence within the State" unless the same in-state rates are offered to all citizens of the United States.

"By circumventing the requirements of § 1623 these states are violating federal law, and the legal arguments offered to justify such actions are untenable, no matter what other policy arguments are offered in their defense," von Spakovsky and Stimson write. Which states are on the list? The offenders include California, Texas, New York, Utah, Washington, Oklahoma, Illinois, Kansas, New Mexico, Nebraska, Maryland, and Connecticut.

Despite these violations, the federal government is doing nothing about it, all while the Justice Department has brought action against Arizona and Alabama for assisting in the enforcement of federal immigration law. ;Meanwhile, President Obama's U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement department announced over the summer relaxed standards for pursuing and dismissing immigration cases.

Apart from being illegal, granting in-state tuition to illegal aliens isn't at all popular with the American people, either. A poll conducted in August shows that 81 percent of voters oppose providing in-state tuition rates to illegal aliens--and with good reason. For starters, the cost of doing so is breaking an already strained bank. In 2005, the cost of providing in-state tuition in California was between $222.6 million and $289.3 million; in Texas, it was estimated between $80.2 million and $104.4 million. Von Spakovsky and Stimson note that the policy has other serious flaws, as well:
Granting financial preference to illegal aliens also discriminates against otherwise qualified citizen students from outside the state. Furthermore, states that offer in-state tuition to illegal aliens act as a magnet for more illegal aliens to come to the state. Arguments to the contrary are unpersuasive, and not supported by the facts.
The core issue, though, is the Constitution and the rule of law. And while the United States welcomes immigrants, it is also a country of laws, and there are limits imposed on those who seek citizenship. States cannot cast aside those laws where they see fit, as von Spakovsky and Stimson explain:
Americans take pride in their heritage and this country’s generous policies regarding legal immigration. Yet, as citizens of a sovereign nation, Americans retain the right to decide who can and cannot enter this country—and what terms immigrants and visitors must accept as a condition of residing in the United States. As mandated by the U.S. Constitution, Congress sets America’s immigration policy. State officials have considerable influence in Congress over the crafting of immigration laws, and they may take steps to help enforce federal law. However, state officials cannot act contrary to a congressional statute.
The Supreme Court has held that "The states have no power, by taxation or otherwise, to retard, impede, burden, or in any manner control, the operations of the constitutional laws enacted by Congress to carry into execution the powers vested in the general government." Unfortunately, in offering illegal aliens in-state tuition in violation of federal law, that is exactly what these states are doing. Now it is up to the President and the Attorney General to enforce that law and take action against these 12 states.

Where Did $36 Billion in Energy Department Financing Go?

To answer the question about where YOUR MONEY HAS GONE, the Washington Post put together a iinfographic examining the distribution of $36 billion in Energy Department financing for renewable energy companies. Solar power generation companies were the largest beneficiaries of DOE’s “investments,” with twelve companies having received a third of the financing under the program.

Why Obama’s Stimulus Failed

President Obama’s economic stimulus was supposed to revive America’s economy and put people back to work. But nearly three years after Democrats rammed the bill through Congress, it’s a clear-cut failure.

The nation’s 8.6 percent unemployment rate stands out as one of consequences. Then there is the high-profile Solyndra scandal and countless other government schemes gone awry.

In a new video from Reason.tv, Jim Epstein takes a closer look at other examples — in a setting just a few miles from Capitol Hill. In Silver Spring, MD, government contractors pocketed big bucks from the stimulus. Government funding for green jobs, weatherized homes and infrastructure are among the other failures stemming from the stimulus in this community.

“Even if you were to believe that government spending can trigger economic growth,” said Veronique de Rugy, senior research fellow at the Mercatus Center, “the money is never spent in a way that’s consistent with the conditions laid out by the Keynesians for it to be efficient.”

Mr. President: There Is Bipartisan Support For $20 Billion Privately Funded Keystone XL Pipleline

Obama Supporters Apposing Keystone Jobs
Today in Washington, D.C. - Dec. 9, 2011:
The House concluded legislative business for the week Thursday afternoon and met for a brief pro forma session this morning recessing until Monday.  The Senate is in recess until Monday when it will take up the nominations of ambassadors to El Salvador and the Czech Republic.

Yesterday, Senate Republicans blocked confirmation of Richard Cordray to be director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, an unaccountable new bureaucracy created by the Dodd-Frank law. The nomination needed 60 votes to move forward, but failed by a 53-45 vote.

Also yesterday, the Senate Democrats again failed to get 60 votes for their latest payroll tax cut extension bill, S. 1944, which would have extended the tax cut for one year but raised taxes for ten years. Following that vote, the Republican alternative, S. 1931, was voted down by the Senate.

Yesterday the House passed (317-98) HR 1254, the Synthetic Drug Control Act of 2011 which would also criminalize synthetic stimulants ("bath salts"),  synthetic cannabinoids ("fake pot" e.g "K2" and "Spice").   Forty states have already passed bans on the new synthetic drugs.   The question now is have we limited the access to research into future drugs that could aid mankind and also are we willing to fill the prisons even more.

The House also passed HR 2920, the Entrepreneur Access to Capital Act which amends the Securities Act of 1933, by allowing entrepreneurs to "crowdsource" (online) up to $2 million per year in investment capital directly from individuals without having to register the investors with the SEC.  Still looking for an article that details in simple terminology "crowdsourcing of capital."

According to Politico, “Rep. Mike Ross of Arkansas — one of 47 Democrats that supported a House bill this summer to require a decision on the pipeline project by Nov. 1 — counted more than 20 Democrats who would likely support adding the Keystone language to the payroll tax package. And he said he disagreed with Obama’s threat. ‘Look, I think that’d be a mistake on the president’s part,’ Ross said. ‘That’s the kind of economic activity we need. It’s a win-win. It reduces our dependence on foreign oil and creates jobs here at home.’ Rep. Gene Green (D-Texas) said he’s not swayed by Obama’s veiled veto pledge. ‘For the president, that’s a negotiating technique. And if you issue that veto threat, you better live through it. Because the next one then nobody will believe you if you don’t,’ Green said. ‘But that doesn’t give me any pause.’”

In fact, 22 House Democrats wrote to President Obama in October, urging approval of the Keystone XL pipeline.

Politico reports, that even liberal Rep. Emmanuel Cleaver (D-MO) “suggested Friday that he would be willing to trade approval of the Keystone pipeline for an extension in the payroll tax cut. ‘I do think that if I had one minute to vote, I probably would vote to accept the deal, but it’s not good government,’ Cleaver said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe.”  The Hill noted that Cleaver “said President Obama might cave on his threat to veto an extension of the payroll tax cut if it’s tied to a controversial pipeline project. ‘I think [Obama] is serious, but at the end, it may be here’s an opportunity to get a deal and get what I want and go home.'"

Labor unions have also been outspoken in support of moving forward on Keystone XL. The Laborers’ International Union of North America has said it is “not just a pipeline, but is a lifeline for thousands of desperate working men and women.” The AFL-CIO’s Mark Ayers wrote last month that “it is America’s workers who are clamoring for the expedited approval of this important project. As President Obama has rightfully declared when it comes to the creation of jobs, ‘WE CAN’T WAIT.’” And International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers president Edwin Hill said, “At a time when jobs are the top global priority, the Keystone project will put thousands back to work and have ripple benefits throughout the North American economy.”

Why is President Obama threatening a veto of a bill that has bipartisan support, would both extend the payroll tax cut he’s spent so much time campaigning for, and create jobs by moving ahead on the Keystone XL pipeline? In an interview at The Heritage Foundation this week, Sen.Mitch McConnell said, “This is a shovel-ready project. It could start tomorrow. All it needs is presidential approval. . . . And then the president decided, ‘Oh I’m not going to decide this until after the next election,’ presumably to curry favor with environmentalists who don’t like any form of energy production. But we need jobs. This is a project ready to go. All it needs is the permission of the President of the United States. So legislatively we’re going to demand that the president make a decision within 60 days and we’re going to try to pass it.”

Jobs Groups Blast Dem Surtax

Major Jobs Groups Are Again Urging Senators To Oppose The Democrats’‘Punitive Tax Hike’ On ‘America’s Job Creators’

‘Would Seriously Impair Our Ability’ ‘To Put Our Unemployed Back To Work’
“America’s job creators… are critical to the effort to rebuild our economy and create the jobs necessary to put our unemployed back to work. Unfortunately, the Senate is expected to take up yet another bill that, if enacted, would seriously impair our ability to accomplish that goal.” (Tax Relief Coalition, “To All Members Of The U.S. Senate: Oppose The Tax On Job Creators,” Letter To Congress, 12/7/11)

·    “…the proposal before the Senate is a job killing punitive tax hike that moves our tax code in the exact opposite direction from where we should be going if we want to see job creation and economic growth.” (Tax Relief Coalition, “To All Members Of The U.S. Senate: Oppose The Tax On Job Creators,” Letter To Congress, 12/7/11)

‘4 Out Of 5 Of The Taxpayers Who Will Face This Surtax Are Business Owners’
“Most importantly, the burden of the proposed tax increases would fall disproportionately on the income of America’s small and mid-sized businesses who pay taxes at individual rates.” (Tax Relief Coalition, “To All Members Of The U.S. Senate: Oppose The Tax On Job Creators,” Letter To Congress, 12/7/11)

·    “According to a recently-released Treasury Department study, 392,000 taxpayers reported incomes exceeding $1 million in 2007, 331,000 of those returns included business income, and 311,000 were ‘business owners’ under the Treasury Department’s narrow definition. In short, the Obama Administration’s own data demonstrates that 4 out of 5 of the taxpayers who will face this surtax are business owners – and thus, increasing the tax burden on these business owners will reduce the amount of capital that they would otherwise have available to invest in their company or hire additional workers.” (Tax Relief Coalition, “To All Members Of The U.S. Senate: Oppose The Tax On Job Creators,” Letter To Congress, 12/7/11)

“The Tax Relief Coalition (TRC), an organization of more than 1,000 trade associations, corporations and advocacy groups…” (Tax Relief Coalition, “To All Members Of The U.S. Senate: Oppose The Tax On Job Creators,” Letter To Congress, 12/7/11)

“TRC members represent 1.8 million businesses of all sizes, from every state and from every industry sector – businesses that invest in our economy and create jobs.” (Tax Relief Coalition, “To All Members Of The U.S. Senate: Oppose The Tax On Job Creators,” Letter To Congress, 12/7/11)

The Obama-Dodd-Frank Czar Confirmation Fails

No To Confirmation
of Dodd-Frank Czar
Today in Washington, D.C. - Dec 8, 2011:
Yesterday, the House passed (235-180) the REINS Act, Regulations From the Executive in Need of Scrutiny Act of 2011.

House passed H.R. 1633 (268-150) to prevent the Environmental Protection Agency from tightening air-pollution controls on farm dust.  While the EPA said it was going to hold off on the regulation, it has become common practice for supporting groups of a regulation to sue the EPA and to thereby provide them cover to move ahead with a regulation.  Interesting that with the EPA stating it did not have an intent to issue the regulation the Obama’s administration said it opposes the bill and issued a veto threat.  Be assured that if the EPA wants to regulate CO2 as a result of both humans and animals breathing and to regulate methane gas created by a normal part of digestion in ruminant animals such as cows, sheep, goats, buffaloes and camels, then the Farmers have a right to question the EPA's intent tot regulate farm dust.

The Senate resumed consideration of Richard Cordray to be director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, an unaccountable new bureaucracy created by the Dodd-Frank law. When the voting was over, Senate Republicans had stood together and blocked (53-45) the confirmation which needed sixty votes for cloture. Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME) voted “present” and Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) proving to be a disappointment to Republicans and facing re-election voted with the democrats.

Forty-five Republican senators have said for months they will oppose any nominee to head CFPB until significant changes are made to the agency to bring some transparency and accountability to it. President Obama a former Senator immediately condemned the confirmation process and said in a dictatorial manner no options are off the table with Cordray, including a potential recess appointment during the holidays.

At 2:30, the Senate will vote on the motion to proceed to Democrats’ latest payroll tax extension bill, S. 1944. Yet again, the bill includes a permanent tax hike to pay for temporary relief. If that motion fails, the Senate will then vote on the motion to proceed to S. 1931, the Republican plan for a payroll tax cut extension. Both will require 60 votes for approval.

CNN Money identified that “Senate Republicans had vowed since May to block confirmation of any director unless they get structural changes to the bureau, which was formed as part of the [Dodd-Frank] law passed last year. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said Thursday that President Obama ignored his party's call for more accountability and transparency in the bureau's structure.

In a must-read editorial, The Wall Street Journal explains some of the serious problems with the new agency Obama wanted Cordray to head.  “Democrats established the bureau under Dodd-Frank to be an empire unto itself. It is part of the Federal Reserve but doesn't report to the Fed Chairman. The bureau's director sets his own budget taken from the Federal Reserve System within a generous limit of hundreds of millions of dollars. And yesterday, we learned from the House Financial Services Committee that the bureau has requested $28 million more from the Fed for fiscal 2011 than the $142 million the White House had estimated in its budget. It's not clear under the law that the Fed can say no. Is this good government? . . . The bureau also has new powers to restrict "abusive acts or practices," a rhetorical invention of Dodd-Frank that has no commonly understood legal meaning and could be interpreted by the bureau to punish innocent bank behavior.”

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said before the vote, “[L]et me just stress at the outset that that’s all today’s vote is about: it’s about accountability and transparency. It’s a debate about whether we think Americans need more oversight over Washington or less. “Republicans made our position clear more than seven months ago, when 44 of us signed a letter saying we won’t support a nominee for this bureau — regardless of who the President is — until three commonsense conditions are met that would bring some transparency and accountability to the CFPB. That letter now has 45 signatories.”

“The President knew about these concerns months ago and he chose to dismiss them. . . .  So once again Democrats are using the Senate floor this week to stage a little political theater. They’re setting up a vote they know will fail so they can act shocked about it later. This is what passes for leadership at the White House right now. The President has made his choice about how to deal with this issue. And we’ve made ours. And what we’ve said is that until this or any other President addresses these very legitimate concerns, we cannot and will not support a nominee.”

McConnell concluded, “Republicans have outlined our concerns. . . .We’re not going to let the President put another unelected czar in place, unaccountable to the American people. And frankly, his refusal to work with us on this only deepens our concerns. The CFPB requires reforms before any nominee can be confirmed. It’s time the President takes these concerns seriously.”

Clinton and Obama Speeches - Ending Marriage, Dashing Hopes

President Obama & Sec of State Clinton
By Ambassador Ken Blackwell, Contributing Author: The Obama administration has offered in two high level addresses the crystallization of all that is wrong in its course. Yesterday, President Barack Obama went to Osawatomie , Kansas . He chose that location because of his own Kansas roots and because former President Theodore Roosevelt gave a famous speech there in 1910.

Mr. Obama should do more of this.Theodore Roosevelt is rightly a beloved figure for millions of Americans. His 1910 Osawatomie speech, however, was the beginning of a disastrous course for him and for America . TR’s sharp left turn in Kansas led him directly to his 1912 “Bull Moose” Third Party challenge of incumbent Republican President Taft and the Democratic nominee, Gov. Woodrow Wilson of New Jersey .

TR never made the mistake of thinking that inequality of income—per se—was the core evil to be addressed by government. Roosevelt , unlike Mr. Obama, did not attend Marxist Scholars Conferences to drink deeply from that poisoned well of resentment. But TR did call for national health care in his ill-fated 1912 campaign. American voters—who had loved TR and given him an unprecedented landslide in 1904—firmly rejected his message in 1912.

Theodore Roosevelt alarmed his former friend and colleague, William Howard Taft, with his call for popular referendums to correct judicial rulings. Does this mean Mr. Obama will now line up with groups like Family Research Council to back popular referendums on marriage? Will he get behind statewide marriage measures in Minnesota and North Carolina ? Will he demand that voters in Massachusetts and New York have a chance to vote on preserving marriage? Not at all.

President Theodore Roosevelt was the first to highlight Census divorce statistics He powerfully defended traditional marriage and childbearing. He was legitimately concerned about declining birth rates.

Mr. Obama and his administration keep Planned Barrenhood in business—shoveling billions to their lethal efforts. Because of them, six in ten pregnancies in Harlem end in abortion. There is no hope in that dread change.

Even if we accept Mr. Obama’s premise—that middle class Americans need what TR called a Square Deal—the breakdown in marriage is the leading cause of income inequality. Married couples live longer, healthier, more prosperous lives. Their children are better cared for, do better in school, and have higher income prospects.

The Obama administration is a Marriage Ender and cannot seriously address poverty in America . This is especially important in the black community. Black children whose parents are married thrive in comparison to their less favored fellow students.

Now, Sec. Hillary Clinton has gone to Geneva to promote Human Rights. She spoke with respect to the UN’s Human Rights Council. There, Mrs. Clinton spoke to delegates from such tyrannical regimes as Libya (suspended), China, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Russia, and Cuba. About Human Rights?

As former Libyan diplomats and Cuban refugees have told us, they sit at these UN conference tables with guns at their heads—figuratively, if not literally. And it was to this body that Hillary Clinton came, hat in hand, to apologize for America’s mistreatment of homosexuals.

Surely, Madame Secretary includes in her list of mea culpas the efforts of 32 states to defend marriage as the union of one man and one woman. According to the Obama administration, it is “discrimination” not to accord marital rights to same-sex couplings.

This is the same UN that cheered the rabidly anti-American, violently anti-Israel speeches of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and which colluded for decades in the murderous dictatorship of Muammar Gaddafi. Don’t ask what respect Gaddafi gave to women’s rights. He filled his days with wild rants and his nights with Viagra.

Ahmadinejad’s homicidal regime in Iran is the leading exporter of terror in the world. The Obama offered Iran “an open hand and not a clenched fist.” How will this administration be able to stop Iran from hanging young homosexual men when it cannot stop them from supplying weapons to Hamas and Hezbollah?

In these two speeches, delivered an ocean apart, we see the fruits of a failed administration, forever pursuing the wrong remedies for many problems they have either made or made worse. Human rights are indeed vitally important. This administration cares less about religious liberty—that firm foundation upon which civil rights stand—than it does about pandering to the bundlers of campaign donations.

Every person should be free to “sit under his own vine and fig tree,” in the beautiful words of Scripture quoted to the Hebrew Congregation of Newport by our first president, George Washington. “And there should be none to make him afraid.”

That magnificent address has been the watchword for America at her best. That is the message President Obama and Sec. Clinton should be taking to a world in need.

We The People Need Jobs
PRESIDENT OBAMA: “…we’re still going to have to import some oil… And when it comes to the oil we import from other nations, obviously we’ve got to look at neighbors like Canada and Mexico that are stable and steady and reliable sources.” (President Obama, Remarks, 3/30/11)

·   OBAMA: “For those -- just to give background to folks, there are these tar sands in Canada that can produce oil.  There is talk about building a pipeline into the United States to import that oil… I will make this general point, which is that, first of all, importing oil from countries that are stable and friendly is a good thing.” (President Obama, Town Hall Event, Fairless Hills, PA, 4/6/11)

Labor Unions Plead For Keystone XL Jobs
AFL-CIO: “For America's skilled craft construction professionals, any discussion of the Keystone XL project begins and ends with one word: JOBS… Throughout America's Heartland, the Keystone Pipeline represents the prospect for 20,000 immediate jobs, and as many as 500,000 indirect jobs via a strong economic multiplier effect… without one single dollar of government assistance.” (Mark H. Ayers, President, Building And Construction Trades Department, AFL-CIO, “For The 99% Of Americans, Keystone = JOBS,” Huffington Post, 11/3/11)

Republicans Demand Accountability Of Dodd-Frank Czar

Update 3:50 PM: House passes (235-180) the REINS Act, Regulations From the Executive in Need of Scrutiny Act of 2011. Q: How could 180 elected officials have voted no? It is time to stop the abuses of Executive departments and agencies.
--------------------
Today in Washington, D.C. - Dec. 7, 2011:
House passed HR 2471, passed (303-116) to ease a 1988 law barring disclosure of movie-rental history without a customer's written permission.

Yesterday, the Senate blocked (54-45) the confirmation of controversial DC Circuit Court of Appeals nominee Caitlin Halligan.

Yesterday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) also filed cloture on the nomination of former Democrat Attorney General of Ohio, Richard Cordray, to head the unaccountable CFPB, created by the Dodd-Frank law. A cloture vote is likely tomorrow or Friday.  Forty-five Republican senators have said they will oppose any nominee to head CFPB until significant changes are made to the agency to bring some transparency and accountability to it. A cloture vote is  likely Thursday or Friday.

Reid is expected today to file cloture on Democrats’ latest payroll tax extension bill, S. 1744. Yet again, the bill includes a permanent tax hike to pay for temporary relief.

Dodd-Frank Pix Flipped By Popular Demand
The Hill reports, “Senate Republicans offered a public show of unity Tuesday against former Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray’s nomination . . . . It’s also unclear whether the White House can count on all of the 53 senators who caucus with Democrats.”

Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell detailed the basic problem with this CFPB appointment: “[T]he Director of the CFPB, by design, is set to lead one of the least accountable and most powerful agencies in Washington. What we're saying is no single person who's unaccountable to the American people should have that much power. We are asking for the same structure as the SEC, the CFTC, and the FDIC, the FTC, the NLRB, and the Consumer Product Safety Commission — the same structure we use anytime we give unelected bureaucrats new powers that need to be checked to protect against abuse. … We don't need any more unelected, unaccountable czars in Washington.”

Forty-five GOP senators have signed a letter to President Obama saying they won’t confirm any director for the CFPB until some key reforms of the agency are put in place. Among the reforms Republicans call for in their letter are to “Establish a board of directors to oversee the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. . . . Subject the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to the [Congressional] appropriations process. . . . [And e]stablish a safety-and-soundness check for the prudential regulators.”

The Hilladds, “Republicans on Tuesday insisted they would block Cordray’s confirmation in the procedural vote unless the White House agrees to significant changes to the agency’s framework. 'Allowing the bureau to be funded by the Fed gives it a ‘funding stream that’s completely unique in government, entirely without a check from the American people … making it one of the least transparent agencies in Washington,’ Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) said at the news conference. . . . Senate Banking Committee ranking member Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) said the changes are needed ‘to prevent this from being a completely runaway, unaccountable agency, which is exactly the way it was crafted to be.’ . . . ‘It makes no sense for a structure to be created, no matter how noble the cause may be, where there is simply no accountability, no oversight for the budget,’ Collins said.”

As Sen. Shelby said in May, “This is about accountability. The Bureau, as currently structured, lacks any semblance of the checks and balances inherent in the Constitution. Everyone supports consumer protection, but we should never entrust a single person with this much power and public money. We are simply asking the President to support common sense reforms that provide the accountability absent in the current structure.”

70th Anniversary: A Date Which Lives In Infamy

Conservative Oklahoma friend John R. Angier II (Okie Campaigns) put together the following remembrance of December 7, 1941.
Today is the 70th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor A date which will live in infamy...

When President Franklin Roosevelt went before Congress on the morning of Dec. 8, 1941 to request a declaration of war against Japan, the outcome was a foregone conclusion. Japan had bombed the United States and killed thousands in a surprise attack at Pearl Harbor.

But Roosevelt knew history would forever remember what he said. And 70 years later, his speech continues to serve as one of the most important in American history.

Yesterday, Dec. 7, 1941 - a date which will live in infamy - the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.

The United States was at peace with that nation and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with the government and its emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific.

Indeed, one hour after Japanese air squadrons had commenced bombing in Oahu, the Japanese ambassador to the United States and his colleagues delivered to the Secretary of State a formal reply to a recent American message. While this reply stated that it seemed useless to continue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or armed attack.

It will be recorded that the distance of Hawaii from Japan makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time, the Japanese government has deliberately sought to deceive the United States by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The attack yesterday on the Hawaiian islands has caused severe damage to American naval and military forces. Very many American lives have been lost. In addition, American ships have been reported torpedoed on the high seas between San Francisco and Honolulu.

Yesterday, the Japanese government also launched an attack against Malaya.

Last night, Japanese forces attacked Hong Kong.

Last night, Japanese forces attacked Guam.

Last night, Japanese forces attacked the Philippine Islands.

Last night, the Japanese attacked Wake Island.

This morning, the Japanese attacked Midway Island.

Japan has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the Pacific area. The facts of yesterday speak for themselves. The people of the United States have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our nation.

As commander in chief of the Army and Navy, I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense.

Always will we remember the character of the onslaught against us.

No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.

I believe I interpret the will of the Congress and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost, but will make very certain that this form of treachery shall never endanger us again.

Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that that our people, our territory and our interests are in grave danger.

With confidence in our armed forces - with the unbounding determination of our people - we will gain the inevitable triumph - so help us God.

I ask that the Congress declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by Japan on Sunday, Dec. 7, a state of war has existed between the United States and the Japanese empire.

Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Germany and Benito Mussolini’s fascist Italy would declare war on the U.S. four days later. World War II would claim more than 400,000 American lives and millions more across the world.

It was a high price to pay to learn an important lesson — that we cannot sit idle while threats to our nation run rampant and unchecked. It is a lesson we must never forget

And it all began 70 years ago today.

From Obama's Pandora's Box: Sodomy and Bestiality

Obama's Pandora's Box
Tony Perkins, FRC Washington Update: Despite all of our policy differences, I'd like to believe there are some lines that even the Obama administration wouldn't cross. Endorsing bestiality is one of them. While it may be uncomfortable to talk about (FRC ought to know!), it shouldn't be difficult to oppose. Or so we thought. Yesterday, during a White House press conference, Jay Carney was caught off guard when a reporter for WorldNetDaily.com asked for the President's opinion on overturning the military's bestiality ban. Lester Kinsolving put it this way, "The Family Research Council and CNS News both reported a 93-to-7 U.S. Senate vote to approve a Defense Authorization bill that, 'includes a provision which not only repeals the military law on sodomy, but also repeals the military ban on sex with animals, or bestiality.' Does the commander-in-chief approve or disapprove of bestiality in our armed forces?"

Given this administration's track record on sexuality, the question was a legitimate one. Regardless of the nervous laughter in the room, three short syllables were all Jay Carney needed to say to put this issue to rest. Or, if he preferred, Carney could have elaborated on the President's disappointment that the repeal was included in the bill in the first place. Either way, this is political no-brainer. But, after a long pause, Carney's only response was no response. "I don't have any comment on--I don't have any comment on that. Let me go to another question." Kinsolving tried to follow up. "Does the President believe this will be approved by all animal support groups...?" Carney shrugged off the insinuation and told the room, "Let's get to something more serious."

Believe me, I would like to talk about something else too. But the policies of the Obama administration have opened a Pandora's Box of perversion. Maybe the White House couldn't respond to the question, because it didn't have an answer. After all, the administration has already welcomed at least one offender into its ranks. Last Thursday, an official with the Centers for Disease Control was back at work, despite being charged with two counts of child molestation and bestiality. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Dr. Kimberly Lindsey, a deputy director with the CDC, has resumed her duties while she awaits trial. A police spokesman confirmed that "During the investigation, evidence was recovered that led to the bestiality charge." Unfortunately, this kind of abuse is more prevalent than people think. And this administration is not only ignoring it, but knowingly protecting employees who practice it. These are the consequences of a society where "anything goes." Eventually, even the vilest cultural taboos are tolerated.

Obama's Big Book of Fairy Tales

The Fairy Tale Obama Express
Toon by William Warren
by Jim Mullen, Contributing Author: Barack Obama is either living in his own little fantasy world or trying to lull Americans to sleep by reading from his liberal-progressive, “Big Book of Fairy Tales.”

Nothing approaching reality could explain the litany of inconsistent, unimaginable policies and statements coming from this President. Unless, of course, it is a deliberate willingness to deceive the American people and outright lie to gain a political advantage. By diverting attention from the worst economy since the Great Depression and apparently the most inept leadership in modern times, he hopes to have four more years to complete the installation of his radical Marxist agenda.

If this President lived in the real world or had any honest intentions for the nation, he should spend the next year explaining his first three years of bizarre behavior. Routinely, he bypasses Congress and rules this country by executive order, then delegates this usurped power to government bureaucrats. One must wonder; is he truly as inept as he appears or is it part of his long-range planning to collapse the system and place himself in a position to wield powers that are even more dictatorial?

Consider the following synopsis of his reign:
The job killing, economic stifling, national healthcare plan that Obama forced upon the American people with the brazen lie that over 40 million more people will receive healthcare at fewer costs without rationing services. Additionally, he made the outlandish claims that illegal aliens and abortion would be exempt from coverage under the plan when he knew that courts had already adjudicated these issues.

The entirety of his energy policy consists of corrupt schemes to pour billions of dollars into his political donors’ solar panel businesses. Taxpayers watch hopelessly as their “investments” evaporate as quickly as sincerity from Obama’s promise.

Energy independence from the Mideast is his claim; yet, he stops virtually all domestic oil exploration, uses the EPA to declare war on coal, and admits he wants electricity costs to “skyrocket.” He compounds this idiocy by preventing the Canadian oil pipeline. As the United States grows more dependent on foreign oil and American jobs continue marching overseas, the President reads us more “fairy tales.”

Illegal immigration is another job killing, security-threatening problem in this country on which this President is still missing in action. In another power-grab from Congress and subversion of American will, he dictated a virtual amnesty to all illegal aliens after declaring all-out war on any state that dared to take any action of self-preservation. Obama courts tens of millions of prospective new voters while his policies pit 14 million unemployed and 8.8 million underemployed Americans against an estimated 13 to 20 million illegal aliens.

Obama lays claim to the title of “champion of the middle class.” Meanwhile, his new middle class is dependent upon food stamps, unemployment benefits, welfare, and hundreds of other government programs just to survive his reign of economic terror. His skewed outlook on this country reasons that those who are not part of the 12 % union workforce or engaged as government employees are not bona fide working Americans and are, therefore, unworthy of any consideration.

In a country founded upon principles of free enterprise and of the people’s right to pursue wealth and prosperity, the Leftist-in-Chief goes about his daily indoctrination tours promoting class warfare. He feels an overpowering compulsion to change the greatest system in the world to one that pulls everyone but the ruling class down to the lowest common denominator.

The debt was $10.626 trillion on the day Mr. Obama took office. He rightly scolded Bush for his debt as “unpatriotic.” The debt is now over 15.1 trillion dollars. In less than three years, he has increased the debt more than 42%.

He surrounded himself with admitted revolutionaries, Marxists, communists, Maoists, and socialists, then injected his Marxist poison into the bloodstream of a nation. Incessantly pointing an accusatory finger at others for the national ill-health that ensued goes beyond any concept of reason and common sense.

He justifies using his handpicked National Labor Relations Board to hammer Boeing Aircraft for building a new manufacturing plant in South Carolina. Imagine a company having the audacity to create real jobs in South Carolina at a non-union plant in a right to work state.

He travels the globe apologizing for America and poking friends in the eye with his undiplomatic stick. Compounding his naïve worldview fiascos, he assuages world rogues and bitter enemies with warm embraces of appeasement.

Every week that Obama remains in office, our Military falls further into financial weakness. He made clear that he would veto any attempt by Congress to block the automatic cuts to the military. (Sequester on Defense.) This, after his own Defense Secretary said if the automatic cuts go into effect, it would devastate the Military.

Always missing in action during any budget process or deficit reduction, he spends his time campaigning and giving away more money to his political cronies. Ruling by executive tyranny, bypassing Congress and creating issues on which to run, he initiates and implements his ruinous policies, then runs from them when he hits the campaign circuit.

Barack Obama is like the wise guy who starts a barroom quarrel, then cowardly disappears out the back door when the fists and chairs start flying. In his case, he avoids responsibility for the messes he creates by ducking into the back-allies of politics, and uses the safety of the Presidency as a political sniper’s perch to launch campaign attacks and rhetoric.

Weapons of this President are powerful and the shields that protect him from criticism and accountability virtually unlimited. Sycophantic, groveling media and race-hustling Democrats circle the ranks to provide a ring of protection. Unfortunately, the American people have no protection for the excesses and edicts of a man who wants to “fundamentally change this country” into a socialist-Marxist state.

The prevailing notion of liberalism is that if you succeed in life’s endeavors you deserve to be a target of despots. To which Obama adds, “I do think at a certain point you’ve made enough money.” He is the self-anointed instrument of big government’s use of taxation and regulation to punish success. He screams to the heavens the outrageous and false claim that he has lowered taxes on Americans, not raised them. Then, in the next speech, he bellows for trillions more in taxes.

Job creation for this president amounts to a mantra permanently programmed into his Teleprompter. However, every socialist policy he advocates and dictates destroys American jobs. His class warfare, tax the rich ideology fuses with his other leftist ideas to form the perfect storm of deepening economic disaster. Neither he nor the Democratic Party has put forth a budget; they have no “jobs” programs – they simply scream for trillions of dollars in tax increases on the real job creators to feed their greedy, Democratic base.

He talks in lofty, high-toned liberal-speak. His manner is most arrogant, and his prevarications come as easily as his disarming smile. Envious praise will abound from con-men everywhere, but every jaw-dropping performance will leave you clutching your wallet and gasping for the fresh air of liberty. Watch for “The Excuse and Blame President,” starring Barack Hussein Obama, coming soon to a political rally near you.
