Trump Kim Summit, Man Of Steel, Farrakhan Fallout

by Gary Bauer, Contributing Author: Trump Kim Summit - While the entire Washington press corps was hyperventilating yesterday over President Trump's efforts to save American steel jobs, National Security Adviser Lt. Gen. H. R. McMaster was discussing a dramatic development with his South Korean counterpart.

The South Koreans were delivering a message from North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un. North Korea had dropped its demand that the U.S. suspend joint military maneuvers with South Korea. It also pledged to suspend its missile and nuclear tests for now. In exchange, Kim wanted to meet with President Trump.

Shortly after 7:00 PM, the South Korean delegation briefed U.S. media on the White House lawn. South Korean National Security Adviser Chung Eui-yong stated that President Trump agreed to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un by May "to achieve permanent denuclearization."

Of course, you can't trust the North Koreans. They have a long history of using negotiations to buy time, and they have broken every deal they ever signed.

But Donald Trump is no patsy, and I have no fears about the negotiations. I trust that, like Ronald Reagan at Reykjavik, Donald Trump won't hesitate to walk away from a bad deal. Now, if this were Barack Obama. . .

The Left's Reaction - Meanwhile, the reaction of Trump-haters is very revealing. With few exceptions, the same talking heads and the same Obama officials who have been warning that Trump's provocative rhetoric would cause a war, now appear to be even more fearful that Trump's strength might actually result in peace.

I will concede that this is a learning process for liberals, if they ever learn. For decades, our elites have told us that America's best days are over. That we can't win wars. That we need to be sensitive to the rest of the world and apologize for our past.

We watched in horror as Obama ignored his own red lines against the use of chemical weapons in Syria, did nothing as ISIS chopped off heads and as he paid off Iran.

Now we have a president who reminds us every day that we are the strongest nation on earth, and he is operating from a position of strength. ISIS has lost its caliphate. And now the Hermit Kingdom is begging for talks.

This is what it looks like when you have a president who wants to make America great again.

Nobel Peace Prize? Do you recall when Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize barely nine months into his administration? It turns out some folks had a few regrets about that.

Unfortunately, I feel completely confident in saying that should Trump succeed in achieving the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, he will never get the Nobel Peace Prize.

Man Of Steel - As the White House was putting the finishing touches on what might be a major foreign policy breakthrough, President Trump was in the Oval Office with a dozen American steel workers and top administration officials announcing new tariffs on steel and aluminum. His proposal was modified to take into account the concerns of allies in Congress and allies overseas.

But what was so striking to me was to see the reaction of these steelworkers. These working men and women have been the backbone of the Democrat Party since FDR. Yet they were visibly moved standing in the White House and watching a president who cared about them.

One talked about his father who worked in a steel mill for forty years and how that job provided for his family. Today, the plant is operating well below half capacity with just a fraction of the employees it used to have.

In response to stories like this, GOP elites have often lectured about the wonders of free trade. But the loss of more than 55,000 manufacturing plants since George H.W. Bush is more than a statistic. While Silicon Valley, Wall Street and Washington, D.C., have prospered, many communities in the industrial Mid-West have been gutted.

All week I have been hearing, "Every economist agrees that tariffs are a bad idea." Well, every American who used to build things agrees that losing your job and watching your family and community break up is bad. Watching your children losing their dreams is not just textbook terrible, but real life terrible.

In spite of all the handwringing by our elites, the American people overwhelmingly agree with President Trump when it comes to fixing trade deals and protecting our interests.

If Republican leaders like my friend Paul Ryan want history to record that they were the ones who led the GOP to becoming the permanent governing party, I suggest they spend more time with those steelworkers.

They were the ones who put Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin into the Republican/Trump column, and spared us from Hillary Rodham Clinton. MSNBC host Chris Matthews gets it.

For business leaders concerned about higher costs, please don't miss the forest for the trees. You just got a massive tax cut courtesy of this president. He is also massively rolling back regulations. Lower taxes, less regulation and smart trade policies will make America great again.

By the way, our "dreaded, know-nothing, protectionist" president just happens to be presiding over an economy that created 313,000 new jobs last month and a growing workforce.

Farrakhan Fallout - The left's Louis Farrakhan problem isn't going away anytime soon. I am pleased to report that three House Democrats have been forced to publicly rebuke Farrakhan by name.

The Daily Caller reports that, unfortunately, Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC) was filmed on stage at a Nation of Islam event with Louis Farrakhan in 2011. Clyburn is the third highest-ranking House Democrat, behind Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Minority Whip Steny Hoyer. And so far, Clyburn is not apologizing.

Meanwhile, the Washington Post Fact Checker slammed DNC Deputy Chairman Keith Ellison with its worst rating of Four Pinocchios for Ellison's continued lies about his relationship with Farrakhan.

And a Planned Parenthood affiliate is "aborting" its relationship with Women's March Co-President Tamika Mallory. The group was scheduled to have Mallory address an April event, but her speech has been cancelled.

No DACA in Upcoming Spending Bills

by Chris Chmielenski: For the last six months, Democrats in Congress have threatened a government shutdown unless a no-strings DACA amnesty was either passed or attached to a spending bill. But after a failed attempt to pass DACA legislation by the Senate last month, and federal court rulings forcing the Trump Administration to continue the amnesty, Democratic Leaders have ended their threats.

Congress must pass a spending bill by March 23 to avoid another government shutdown. The government's been running on short-term spending bills since last October because of DACA, but the spending bill that may come to the House floor next week would fund the government through the end of September, ending the DACA showdown.

That doesn't mean that there won't be any bad immigration provisions in the spending bill (more on that in the next section), but the upcoming spending bill should at least be DACA-free.

"None of these bills has to be part of the omnibus," House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said on Thursday in reference to DACA and gun reform legislation.

A day earlier, the second ranking Democrat in the House, Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), made a similar comment.

"I think the omnibus needs to be considered on its own merits, and then we ought to move ahead on DACA," Hoyer said.

After the Supreme Court denied Attorney General Jeff Sessions' request to fast-track its consideration of a lower court ruling that placed a nationwide injunction on the Trump Administration's decision to phase out DACA, the future of DACA is still very much up in the air.

But the Administration's decision to continue adjudicating DACA renewal applications as a result of the lower court's ruling has delayed the urgency for Congress to act.

Still, Trump adversary and lame-duck Senator Jeff Flake of Arizona has made it a mission of his to pass legislation that he co-authored with Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) that would provide a three-year DACA amnesty while appropriating $7 billion for border security. Earlier this week, Sen. Flake went to the Senate floor and asked for unanimous support to pass his bill, but Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.) objected. Sen. Flake promises to continue his efforts to pass a DACA amnesty.

H-2B Threat
Congress has a history of using massive, omnibus spending bills, like the one it expects to pass in the coming weeks, to hide unpopular immigration provisions, and there's a threat that it may do so again.

Last year, Congress authorized the Department of Homeland Security to increase the cap on H-2B visas above the 66,000 annual cap set by Congress. Then-DHS Secretary John Kelly increased the number of visas by 15,000, but employers only submitted requests for about 13,500 additional foreign workers.

Congress also added a provision to the FY2016 omnibus spending bill that exempted returning H-2B foreign workers from the annual cap, potentially quadrupling the number of H-2B visas that could be issued.

We've already seen a few news stories pop up in recent weeks about seasonal employers claiming they can't find enough foreign workers to fill jobs for this summer, so we'll continue to keep a close eye on Congress between now and the spending deadline for any bad immigration provisions in the spending bill.

MD Federal Judge Overrules CA/NY Federal Judge
Federal Judge Roger Titus ruled this week that the Trump Administration does have the right to end Pres. Obama's unconstitutional DACA executive amnesty, contradicting rulings issued by federal judges in California and New York.

"The rescission of a policy relating to prosecutorial discretion does not shock the conscience of this Court. Absent congressional action, the benefits given to Dreamers by DACA were in potential violation of congressional immigration laws; the only thing that has changed is that deferred status will expire, and enforcement of immigration laws may recommence in the absence of action by Congress, which the President has requested," Judge Titus wrote in his decision.

The conflicting decisions between the federal courts increases the likelihood that the Supreme Court will take up the case. But USCIS issued a statement yesterday stating that the agency would continue to adjudicate renewals.

FORGET RUSSIA, WHAT ABOUT QATAR?

. . . Is Mueller colluding with the Muslim Brotherhood’s 9/11 backers?

by Daniel Greenfield: There hasn’t been a sudden explosion of paranoia and fear about Russia like this since Sputnik.

In the ‘12 election debates, Obama had breezily dismissed Romney’s suggestion that Russia was the leading geopolitical threat. “You said Russia. Not al Qaeda. You said Russia," he sneered. "And the 1980s are now calling to ask for their foreign policy back, because the Cold War's been over for 20 years."

Obama was nearly right.

Russia is a serious geopolitical threat, but despite Putin’s imperial ambitions and the malicious actions of a regime run by former KGB operatives, it falls far behind the threat posed by the People’s Republic of China. The Cold War is over and Russia lost. That may be of small comfort to Ukraine or Georgia, and the other former subject nations of the Soviet Union that it threatens, but it’s no real threat to us.

China isn’t our leading geopolitical foe either.

Obama mentioned Al Qaeda in his attack on Romney. The Islamic terrorist group was already largely irrelevant. But the terror kingdom behind it is more dangerously relevant than ever.

According to the intelligence community, Abdullah bin Khalid al-Thani, a member of the Qatari royal family, its former interior minister and minister of Islamic affairs, was an Al Qaeda sympathizer who had harbored Khalid Sheikh Muhammad. When the FBI arrived in Qatar to arrest him, the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks was transported away on a special Qatari government jet with blacked out windows.

And there have been suspicions over the years that Qataris played a larger role in 9/11.

But Qatar these days is far more of a threat than it was on 9/11. Its close ties to terror have made it a pariah nation in the region even as its support for Islamic theocracy crosses all factional lines.

It’s the main patron of the Muslim Brotherhood, an international Jihadist network, and has close ties to Iran. It spreads terrorist propaganda through Al Jazeera while subverting friendly governments. It seeks to influence American policy through think tanks like Brookings while spying on Americans.

Russia’s backing for the Shiite axis in Iran, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen has been destabilizing, but not nearly as destabilizing as Qatar’s backing for the Islamist militias that wrecked Syria, Yemen, Libya, Egypt and much of the region. Qatar’s Iranian allies may be the final winners of the Arab Spring’s humanitarian catastrophe, but it was Qatari propaganda and weapons that kickstarted the region’s unholy wars.

While Qatar’s Al Jazeera terror network undermined governments, the terror kingdom shipped massive amounts of weapons to its Islamic terrorist allies. The Obama administration colluded with Qatar’s arms shipments to terrorists by instructing NATO forces not to interdict these shipments which later ended up in the hands of Jihadists in Libya and Mali. Qatar bought weapons from the genocidal Muslim Brotherhood regime in Sudan, whose leader is wanted by the ICC for crimes against humanity, and shipped them to Jihadists in Syria through the terror state of Turkey.

Secretary of State John Kerry even winked at Qatar's funding of Hamas, another genocidal Muslim Brotherhood regime. This is the sort of serious collusion that we should be discussing.

But while Qatar funds terrorists, its massive propaganda operation also attempts to influence Americans. The terror kingdom acquired Current TV from Al Gore for $500 million. But the terror network failed to attract viewers. Al Jazeera America was sued for fraud by Gore, and its female and Jewish employees began coming forward with accusations of sexism and anti-Semitism.

But while Al Jazeera America failed, Al Jazeera remains the world’s most influential hostile state propaganda service, far more so than Russia’s RT. And it hasn’t given up on influencing Americans.

Al Jazeera recently boasted of having sent in an operative to secretly record pro-Israel activists. The terror network dispatched letters to pro-Israel groups and it’s believed by some that their existence is being used to pressure figures in the Jewish community into playing along with Qatar’s public relations effort. If Russia were similarly spying on and blackmailing Americans, there would be outrage.

Unfortunately, Qatar has burrowed deeply into the media and the political infrastructure of the left.

Al Jazeera is not the only vector for Qatari propaganda. The Brookings Institution, one of the most influential think tanks in the country, is subservient to Qatar. "[T]there was a no-go zone when it came to criticizing the Qatari government," a Brookings Doha Center fellow revealed.

And then there’s The Intercept. The pro-terror site funded by a Persian billionaire has become notorious for its distribution of Qatari propaganda. The site, whose leading figure is Hamas apologist Glenn Greenwald, is a perfect forum for publishing smears, innuendo and even hacked documents. The Intercept frequently features attacks on the UAE, a Qatari rival, and Americans friendly to it, such as Jared Kushner, so that its contents appears to curiously echo those of Qatar’s PR and Al Jazeera.

Qatar’s influence operations took an ominous turn when Elliott Broidy, a top Trump donor, had his emails hacked by individuals he alleges were Qatari agents. The leaked emails play into Qatar’s conflict with the UAE. The emails have predictably popped up on Al Jazeera and Broidy had previously been targeted by The Intercept for a panel at which Steve Bannon had criticized Qatar.

"We have reason to believe this hack was sponsored and carried out by registered and unregistered agents of Qatar seeking to punish Mr Broidy for his strong opposition to state-sponsored terrorism," Broidy's spokesman said.

These two incidents of alleged Qatari espionage against Americans in order to influence our foreign policy raise serious questions. Yet the same media that obsessively searches for Russian bots on Reddit and Facebook seems entirely disinterested in discussing the subject. Skeptics of Russian influence have been told to put country ahead of party, but when will the left finally put country ahead of Qatar?

Perversely, instead of investigating the role of Qatar in influencing American elections, Mueller is reportedly taking the Qatari propaganda at face value and directing his investigation accordingly.

President Trump has been critical of Qatar. If Mueller uses Qatari opposition research to undermine a sitting president on behalf of a terror state, he will actually doing what Trump has been accused of.

Mueller had been accused of covering for the Muslim Brotherhood’s activities in America before. But now he risks being guilty of colluding with the Brotherhood’s Qatari backers to bring down an anti-Qatari president for the terror state that shielded the mastermind of the September 11 attacks.

There could be no greater act of treason than that.

Qatar’s domestic influence operation is far deeper and more dangerous than anything waged by Russia. Al Jazeera is infinitely more sophisticated than RT. The influence enjoyed by Qatar through Brookings has no Russian parallel. Its narrative on Yemen, Libya, Gaza, Burma and Egypt is the only story you will see in the media. The media in the United States hardly ever runs stories critical of Qatar anymore.

But if the latest allegations are true, Qatar’s terror backing and fake news operations have been supplemented by a domestic spying and blackmail operation against Americans.

And that cannot be tolerated.

Qatar is tiny compared to Russia. It’s a slave state of 200,000 masters and large numbers of foreign workers, many of them worked to death and treated little better than slaves. But yet it’s enormously wealthy and beneath its façade of moderation, it seeks to export Islamic supremacism around the world.

When we talk about Al Qaeda or Hamas, when you hear about the Arab Spring or the civil war in Yemen, when mention is made of the illegal invasion of Libya, the fighting in Syria, the real topic is Qatar.

Americans who collude with Russia should be held accountable. So should those who collude with Qatar.

And often they are one and the same.

Qatar, like Russia, is an ally of Iran. Like Russia, it arms and trains Islamic terror groups, seeks to undermine America, Israel and the West, and represents a major geopolitical threat.

Islamic terrorism is our leading geopolitical enemy. Its distribution and diversity makes it more difficult to pin down than the linkage between Communism and the Soviet Union. But the closest thing to the USSR of Islamic terror today is Qatar. When Democrats demand to know what Republicans are ready to do about Russia, Republicans should ask them what they are willing to do about Qatar?

College IS For Dummies: Harvard Government-Run-Internet Edition: “Which brings us to this latest bit of…fake “study” nonsense:

“Harvard Study Shows Why Big Telecom Is Terrified of Community-Run Broadband

“Let us please clarify: When you hear ‘broadband’ prefaced by ‘community-run’ or ‘municipal,’ ‘muni-‘ or ‘public’ – it means government-run.

“What is being discussed is government – famed the world over for its openness and free speech protections in places like Iran, North Korea, China, Saudi Arabia – running the greatest open platform in the history of the planet.

“What is being discussed is our governments – famed the world over for massive debt, Obamacare, the post office, Amtrak, the uber-flammable DC Metro,…. – delivering you broadband.

“Big Telecom is ‘terrified’ of government broadband – for the very same, very reasonable reasons We the People are terrified of government broadband. And Obamacare. And Amtrak. And the DC Metro. And….”

You say you want another example of Harvard “research” fraudulence? No problem:

Academic Slams Activist For Using Dodgy Science To Clobber Exxon: “An expert in content analysis slammed academic Naomi Oreskes Thursday for using sketchy and biased methods to show ExxonMobil purposely misled people about climate change.”

We’ll for these purposes leave aside the fact that man-caused climate change is a corrupt, debunked myth – created and bolstered by the same “expert” “researchers” extruding the same sort of corrupt “studies” at which we have been looking.

This Harvard “study” claiming Exxon lied – claims to have reached its conclusion using a process known as “content analysis.”

So ExxonMobil asked for a rebuttal – Kimberly A. Neuendorf, Ph.D. The collegiate exceptional exception – that proves the ridiculousness rule.

Neuendorf is a Cleveland State University professor – with decades spent toiling in the field of content analysis:

“Tom Johnson, a professor of journalism at the University of Texas, for instance…(said) that Neuendorf is one of the preeminent scholars in the field document analysis.

“‘She literally wrote the book on content analysis and has an invaluable website connected to the page,’ Johnson said without weighing in on the report she conducted for Exxon. ‘She has conducted numerous content analyses. I would put her among the top three trusted sources on this topic.’”

In fact, Neuendorf created the research method used by the Harvard study in question. She is thus the perfect person to ask to analyze it. And what conclusion did Neuendorf draw?:

“Oreskes relied on a series of invalid research methods to determine Exxon used ads to cast doubt on climate change.…”

Well that sounds more than a mite fraudulent:

“‘In light of these significant errors and omissions, the conclusions reached…are not sound, and should not be relied upon,’ Neuendorf wrote….”

This Harvard duo was also caught comparing apples and bowling balls:

“(T)he ads cited in their report were predominantly from Mobil before the company merged with Exxon in 1999, meaning Oreskes and Supran compared the research of one company with the advertorials of another.”

Nigh the entire process – was fraudulent:

“‘To maintain objectivity, content analysis coding ought to be conducted by coders who are at arm’s-length with regard to the research,” (Neuendorf) noted, adding that Oreskes and Supran violated that tenet when they used themselves as coders.”

And these two went into the process – :

“Tweets espousing anti-oil and environmentalist sentiment are the least of their academic transgressions. Both Oreskes and Supran have a long history of supporting an attorney general-led crusade against Exxon.

“In fact, The New York Times cited in May 2016 that Oreskes was one of the original architects of the anti-Exxon campaign, which officially kicked-off during a climate conference in California in 2012.

“Attorney Generals Eric Schneiderman of New York and Maura Healey of Massachusetts have been at the forefront of the attorneys general-led crusade to bring Exxon to heel.

“Oreskes has been described as an anti-oil acolyte.…”

This all-encompassing fake-ness and fraudulence became too much – even for an initially-friendly Leftist media:

“Oreskes…published the analysis in August 2017, which received favorable coverage from Reuters and The New York Times, among several dozen other outlets.

“(But s)ome outlets slowly began taking notice of several significant problems with the methods and tools Oreskes and her colleague, Geoffrey Supran, used to draw her conclusion.

“Energy in Depth’s Spencer Walrath, for one, reviewed the ads Oreskes’ used in her research, all of which appeaed in The New York Times throughout the 1990s, and found that more than 90 percent of them acknowledge that climate change was caused in part by human action. Bloomberg posed similar questions about their research.”

This Harvard “study” – is yet another batch of bogusness in a long line of bogus college “studies.”

Time to Get Over the Russophobia

Then we must decide whether to continue on course into a second Cold War, or engage Russia, as every president sought to do in Cold War I.

For our present conflict, Vladimir Putin is not alone at fault. His actions have often been reactions to America’s unilateral moves.

After the Soviet Union collapsed, we brought all of the Warsaw Pact members and three former republics of the USSR into our military alliance, NATO, to corral Russia. How friendly was that?

Putin responded with his military buildup in the Baltic.

George W. Bush abrogated the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty that Richard Nixon had negotiated, Putin responded with a buildup of the offensive missiles he put on display last week.

The U.S. helped to instigate the Maidan Square coup that dumped over the elected pro-Russian government in Ukraine.

To prevent the loss of his Sebastopol naval base on the Black Sea, Putin countered by annexing the Crimean Peninsula.

After peaceful protests in Syria were put down by Bashar Assad, we sent arms to Syrian rebels to overthrow the Damascus regime.

Seeing his last naval base in the Med, Tartus, imperiled, Putin came to Assad’s aid and helped him win the civil war.

The Boris Yeltsin years are over.

Russia is acting again as a great power. And she sees us as a nation that slapped away her hand, extended in friendship in the 1990s, and then humiliated her by planting NATO on her front porch.

Yet, what is also clear is that Putin hoped and believed that, with the election of Trump, Russia might be able to restore respectful if not friendly relations with the United States.

Clearly, Putin wanted that, as did Trump.

Yet, with the Beltway hysteria over hacking of the DNC and John Podesta emails, and the Russophobia raging in this capital, we appear to be paralyzed when it comes to engaging with Russia.

The U.S. political system, said Putin this week, “has been eating itself up.” Is his depiction that wide of the mark?

What is the matter with us?

Three years after Nikita Khrushchev sent tanks into Budapest to drown the Hungarian revolution in blood, Eisenhower was hosting him on a 10-day visit to the USA.

Two years after the Berlin Wall went up, and eight months after Khrushchev installed missiles in Cuba, Kennedy reached out to the Soviet dictator in his widely praised American University speech.

Lyndon Johnson met with Russian President Alexei Kosygin in Glassboro, New Jersey, just weeks after we almost clashed over Moscow’s threat to intervene in the Arab-Israeli War of 1967.

Six months after Leonid Brezhnev sent tank armies to crush the Prague Spring in August 1968, an inaugurated Nixon was seeking detente.

In those years, no matter who was in the White House or Kremlin, the U.S. establishment favored engagement with Moscow. It was the right that was skeptical or hostile.

Again, what is the matter with this generation?

True, Vladimir Putin is an autocrat seeking a fourth term, like FDR.

But what Russian leader, save Yeltsin, has not been an autocrat? And Russians today enjoy freedoms of speech, assembly, religion, travel, politics, and the press that the generations before 1989 never knew.

China, not Russia, has the more repressive single-party Communist state.

Indeed, which of these U.S. allies shows greater tolerance than Putin’s Russia? The Philippines of Rodrigo Duterte, the Egypt of Gen. Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, the Turkey of President Erdogan, or the Saudi Arabia of Prince Mohammad bin Salman?

Russia is nowhere near the strategic or global threat the Soviet Union presented. As Putin conceded this week, with the breakup of the USSR, his nation “lost 23.8 percent of its national territory, 48.5 percent of its population, 41 percent of its gross domestic product and 44.6 percent of its military capacity.”

How would Civil War Unionists have reacted if the South had won independence and then, to secure the Confederacy against a new invasion, Dixie entered into an alliance with Great Britain, gave the Royal Navy bases in New Orleans and Charleston, and allowed battalions of British troops to deploy in Virginia?

Japan negotiates with Putin’s Russia over the southern Kuril Islands lost at the end of World War II. Bibi Netanyahu has met many times with Putin, though he is an ally of Assad, whom Bibi would like to see ousted, and has a naval and air base not far from Israel’s border.

We Americans have far more fish to fry with Russia than Bibi.

Strategic arms control. De-escalation in the Baltic, Ukraine and the Black Sea. Ending the war in Syria. North Korea. Space. Afghanistan. The Arctic. The war on terror.

Yet all we seem to hear from our elite is endless whining that Putin has not been sanctioned enough for desecrating “our democracy.”

Get over it.

Banning Rifles?

by Kerby Anderson: Proponents of gun control would like to ban (or at least significantly restrict) the manufacture, sale, and distribution of semi-automatic rifles. They usually refer to them as “assault rifles” and “weapons of war” in order to enhance their argument. Lawyers for the cause argue that even though the Heller case decided by the Supreme Court prevented governments from banning handguns, it still might allow banning other weapons like rifles.

Most supporters of the Second Amendment argue that it protects an individual’s right to self-defense and also protects citizens against state tyranny. In the interest of time, let’s just focus on that first idea.

The Second Amendment exists so that you can protect yourself against robbers and terrorists. That means we can reject the idea that the amendment only applies to muskets and flintlock pistols. Any intruder will have firepower much greater than that. In fact, it is likely that the robber or mugger will have a semiautomatic handgun or a semiautomatic rifle.

By the way, that is one reason why most police no longer carry revolvers. They want to have a gun that has a high-capacity magazine. Why? Because that is what bad guys usually have. Police want to have in their hands enough ammunition and firepower to counter what will be in the hands of a criminal.

You really cannot just ban or restrict an AR15 without affecting all other rifles that use high-capacity magazines. And those same types of magazines are also found in other handguns and rifles. If you also ban them, you are just left with revolvers, pump-action shotguns, and bolt-action rifles. A law enforcement officer or a homeowner with these few weapons would be outgunned by any criminal.

The Second Amendment is about more than just self-defense. But that is reason enough to see the difficulty in banning or restricting semi-automatic rifles.

Georgia on My Dime

by Paul Jacob, Contributing Author: After the recent school shooting in Parkland, Florida, followed by pressure from gun control advocates, Delta Airlines announced it would end its corporate relationship with the National Rifle Association, whereby NRA members were given discounts on travel.*

Meanwhile, Georgia legislators were in the process of passing legislation to give Delta a state sales tax break on their fuel purchases. That special legislative deal was worth a whopping $40 million to the Atlanta-based company.

Yet, when Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle heard about Delta dissing the NRA, he tweeted, “I will kill any tax legislation that benefits @Delta unless the company changes its position and fully reinstates its relationship with @NRA.”

The Lt. Gov. added, “Corporations cannot attack conservatives and expect us not to fight back.”

Everyone is familiar with the story. Those who favor gun rights were angry with Delta Airlines and ecstatic with the pushback from Georgia legislators. Those favoring new legislation to restrict gun ownership were thrilled by Delta’s break with the NRA and livid with those legislators.

But while cheering and jeering one side or the other, too many folks missed the 800-lb problem in the room. A letter writer to the Washington Post illuminated it: “The government can’t punish people or businesses for their political views. They can be punished only by the free market, in the form of lost business.”

True enough in the free market.

But when crony capitalism replaces free markets, the government certainly will punish or reward people and businesses — with millions and billions of our tax dollars — on purely political grounds.

Georgia government just did it to Delta Airlines.

President Trump Agrees To Meet North Korea’s Kim Jong-un

The White House: Remarks by Republic of Korea National Security Advisor Chung Eui-Yong (7:11 P.M. EST March 8, 2018):CHUNG: Good evening. Today, I had the privilege of briefing President Trump on my recent visit to Pyongyang, North Korea. I’d like to thank President Trump, the Vice President, and his wonderful national security team, including my close friend, General McMaster.

I explained to President Trump that his leadership and his maximum pressure policy, together with international solidarity, brought us to this juncture. I expressed President Moon Jae-in’s personal gratitude for President Trump’s leadership.

I told President Trump that, in our meeting, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said he is committed to denuclearization. Kim pledged that North Korea will refrain from any further nuclear or missile tests. He understands that the routine joint military exercises between the Republic of Korea and the United States must continue. And he expressed his eagerness to meet President Trump as soon as possible.

President Trump appreciated the briefing and said he would meet Kim Jong-un by May to achieve permanent denuclearization.

The Republic of Korea, along with the United States, Japan, and our many partners around the world remain fully and resolutely committed to the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. Along with President Trump, we are optimistic about continuing a diplomatic process to test the possibility of a peaceful resolution.

The Republic of Korea, the United States, and our partners stand together in insisting that we not repeat the mistakes of the past, and that the pressure will continue until North Korea matches its words with concrete actions.

Republicans In Congress Continue To Dismantle Oppressive Regulations

by Natalia Castro: Republicans in the House of Representatives have spent this week breaking down the oppressive regulatory regime the previous administration put into place. Former President Barack Obama dramatically expanded the influence of the executive branch through agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency(EPA). House Republicans are now working to pass legislation that mitigates the impact of overreaching federal policies, but barriers in the Senate could make this a difficult task.

The House has taken up two pieces of legislation this week to combat EPA overreach.

First, the Satisfying Energy Needs and Saving the Environment Act or SENSE. The legislation exempts certain coal power plants from 2012 environmental regulations in order to foster growth within the industry.

Pennsylvania Representative Keith Rothfus explained in a press release, “Huge piles of low-quality… ‘waste coal’… have become fixtures of our natural landscape. With the invention of circulating fluidized bed (CFB) technology, however, the private sector has been able to process this coal and use it to generate cheap, domestic energy…. Unfortunately, facilities that utilize CFB technology will soon be forced to shut down as a result of the compliance costs associated with the Environmental Protection Agency’s Mercury and Air Toxics Standards rule… the Satisfying Energy Needs and Saving the Environment Act… provides existing CFB facilities with relief from the unattainable hydrogen chloride and sulfur dioxide limitations of the MATS rule.”

Innovation within the private sector to lower national energy costs should be encouraged, not regulated out of existence. This is not a new idea. In fact, in 2013, just after the Obama Administration implemented ridiculous compliance demands, the House passed a nearly identical version of SENSE; however, the legislation lost momentum in the Senate when Obama announced his plans to veto the bill.

Additionally, the Blocking Regulatory Inference from Closing Kilns Act “prohibits the Environmental Protection Agency from requiring compliance with Clean Air Act rules concerning national emission standards for hazardous air pollutants with respect to brick and structural clay products manufacturing or clay ceramics manufacturing until judicial reviews of the rules are complete.” Since EPA rules are so often challenged in the courts, this prevents companies from paying compliance costs just for a regulation to be removed.

Unlike the controversy surrounding SENSE, this Act has already received bipartisan support Senators such as Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) and Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.).

The Brick Industry Association (BIA), president and CEO Ray Leonhard, explained in testimony before Congress last September, “It’s critical to complete the full legal review before manufacturers must spend millions for controls that may not be needed and could force some of them out of business.”

BIA executives believe industry leaders have invested over $100 million in EPA regulation since 2003 which have been later overturned in courts.

The second piece of legislation’s bipartisan support in the Senate should mean easy passage, garnering the 60 votes necessary to pass most measures has proven consistently difficult. Even without President Obama to call for a veto on SENSE, the Act will inevitably struggle to find nine or ten Democrats willing align with the Republican agenda.

The best strategy for passing legislation right now for the Senate is an attachment to the funding bill coming in late March. With an omnibus spending rule, Republicans can attach critical items like these as amendments to the legislation to institute comprehensive and passable reforms.

The House’s decision to combat the growth of the EPA regulatory regime could assist in protecting U.S. energy production and lowering energy costs, but only if they find an avenue to pass the legislation through the Senate as well. Senate Republicans should force Democrats to vote to close U.S. businesses and raise energy costs. But if and when that fails, attaching these items to the funding bill could be the only viable path forward.

Economy Added 313,000 Jobs in February 2018

by Danielle Paquette: The U.S. economy added 313,000 jobs in February, according to Friday’s employment report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, smashing analysts' expectations.

But the strong growth, spurred by hiring in retail after layoffs last year and gains in manufacturing and construction, did not boost wages.

The unemployment rate held steady for the fifth straight month at 4.1 percent, a 17-year low. Average hourly pay grew by 2.6 percent from this time last year, a drop from January's year-over-year improvement of 2.9 percent.

February produced the most jobs in a month since July 2016, when the economy grew by 325,000 positions, government data show. Economists appeared split over what caused the higher-than-projected surge of jobs.

Andrew Chamberlain, chief economist at Glassdoor, a jobs website, said the surprise burst of new positions — 200,000 was the expected number — likely stems from the tax plan President Trump signed last December that slashed corporate rates.

“This is a result of fiscal stimulus — in other words: a $1.3 billion tax cut,” he said. “Businesses are making decisions on a forward-looking basis. Even if the dollars aren’t in the pockets of companies yet, they’re making plans.”

Cathy Barrera, head economist at ZipRecuiter, an employment site, questioned that interpretation, asserting it's still too early to see an impact from the tax measure.

“Really for businesses, what matters is demand for their products,” she said. “If demand for products hasn’t gone up, there’s not more work for these companies to be doing.”

Josh Wright, chief economist at iCIMS, a hiring software firm, said companies might just be ramping up for a potentially sunnier business climate.

“It’s more about increased confidence,” he said. “They like the outlook for growth and how supportive federal policy will be for it.”

Construction, retail, manufacturing and health care drove most of the growth in February.

Specialty trade contractors saw employment gains of 38,000, while building assembly jobs jumped by 16,000. (Overall, the construction sector has added 180,000 positions over the last four months.)

Retail trade expanded by a whopping 50,000 jobs, with general merchandise stores leading the way (18,000 positions), according to the BLS data. The growth spurt follows a year of layoffs: About 67,000 positions disappeared from stores in 2017 — a plummet from the 203,000 jobs that were added in 2016.

Consumer spending increased by .4 percent in January, and retailers seem more optimistic, said Barrera, the economist.

"That speaks directly to the growing demand for retail and the need for more retail services," she said.

Manufacturing, meanwhile, maintained a course of steady growth in February, increasing by 31,000 jobs, with most of them sprouting in transportation equipment (8,000) and fabricated metal products (6,000).

Labor Secretary Alec Acosta doubled down on the stance Trump's tax moves unleashed growth in a statement Friday.

“President Trump’s tax reform continues to boost economic confidence with more than 400 companies handing out bonuses, raises, or other benefits to more than 4 million Americans," he said.

Still, wages in February continued to drag compared to pre-recession levels.

Elise Gould, a senior economist at the Economic Policy Institute, which tracks average worker pay, said the hourly increase in February’s report was “relatively disappointing,” compared to monthly wage bumps before the last downturn.

Year-over-year wage growth, she said in an email, “needs to exceed 3.5 percent for a substantial amount of time for workers to begin to claw back losses in the labor share of income they’ve felt during and since the Great Recession.”

February's overall numbers, though, build on a strong two months for the country, which saw 200,000 new jobs in January, per government figures. Eighteen states lifted their minimum wages at the start of the year, including Ohio, Florida, Washington and Maine.

"The 313,000 job gain is more than triple that necessary to meet the demand of new entrants into the work force, which if it sustained will continue to put downward pressure on the unemployment rate," said Joseph Brusuelas, chief economist at RSM US LLP, an international consulting firm.

But the share of Americans who are either working or looking for jobs in February remained lower than economists would like to see. The workforce grew by 806,000 people, bringing the labor force participation rate up to 63 percent — a slight improvement from January's 62.7 percent, but well below pre-downturn rates.

Economists point out that Baby Boomers are retiring faster than young people are entering the workforce to replace them, but they still don’t know why so many workers appear to be stuck on the sidelines. Some blame the opioid epidemic, which, studies show, has knocked a chunk of potential hires out of the workforce.

One alarming example: the number of truck drivers, commercial pilots, railroad operators and pipeline workers who failed drug tests in 2017 has spiked 77 percent since 2006, according to federal data.

Brian Krenke, president of KI Inc, a furniture maker in Green Bay, Wisc., said his firm has raised wages and expanded its recruiting efforts into high schools but still struggles to fill vacancies.

“In the next 90 days, we need to identify and train 390 employees to do skilled positions,” Krenke said. “But individuals are failing drug tests and that, combined with low unemployment, makes it hard to find people.”

Economist Heidi Hartmann, president of the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, said the rising price of childcare, combined with a decade of slow wage growth, keeps some workers from seeking jobs.

“If they can’t afford childcare, they’re not going to work,” she said. “If they can't make enough to pay for a car or the bus fare, they’re not going to work.”

Researchers at the Bureau of Labor Statistics make their estimates based on a sample of employer payrolls (and the numbers are recalculated as more companies transmit information). The figures have a margin for error of about 100,000 in either direction.

When Did Broward Sheriff Scott Israel Know the Truth About His Cowardly Deputy?

by Armstrong Williams: Across the United States, the latest revelations related to the Parkland high school massacre truly shock the conscience.

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel dropped the bombshell that his deputy, whose job it was to defend the kids at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, chose instead to save himself as the murderous gunmen armed with an AR-15 rifle executed high school children and teachers in the adjacent building.

In the coming days, the truth and details will hopefully continue to emerge. But a critical question that must be answered immediately is this: For how long has Israel known that the school resource officer assigned to protect the children in Parkland chose to cower rather than carry out his sworn duty to protect the students?

During a news conference Feb. 22, Israel seemed to imply that he had just discovered what transpired by viewing video evidence revealing the inaction of his officer. “What I saw was the deputy arrive … take up a position, and he never went in,” said Israel. His announcement has made headlines across the United States.

There is a lot going on here that does not seem to add up. In recent days, Israel has repeatedly asserted that the protocol ever since the mass shooting at the high school in Columbine is to move decisively to confront active shooters. It’s a point that Israel has driven home in multiple press conferences and at a nationally televised CNN town hall meeting where he enjoyed rapturous applause from the crowd.

Instead, Israel finally admitted that his deputy remained outside for upward of four of the six minutes that the gunman used to roam the halls of the freshman building hunting and heartlessly slaughtering defenseless children.

Israel said he was “devastated, sick to my stomach, there are no words.” But why did it take more than one week for Israel to share this information?

Surely Israel and his officers began reviewing the surveillance footage the very day of the shooting. Plus, the officers who did bravely enter the school and helped save lives by evacuating the wounded must have seen or spoken with the school resource officer. So why did Israel decline to reveal the truth about what took place, instead repeatedly making the misleading assertion that the school resource officer was elsewhere on the campus, but not close to the scene of the shooting?

There must be an immediate and comprehensive investigation to examine who knew the facts and when. The families of the children murdered while their only hope for survival failed them deserve to know why the sheriff apparently opted to spout half-truths and decline to be forthcoming with the facts.

I hope that President Donald Trump, never one to pull a punch, will come forward to demand accountability and answers to these vital questions. The president has plenty of reasons to do so, especially since he has been played the fool. After all, Israel escorted Trump during his visit to the hospital to meet shooting victims, speaking proudly of the heroism of his men and parading around as a hero while he apparently harbored the dark secret that his officer charged to serve and protect did neither.

I cannot begin to imagine how this latest news will further devastate the family members of the victims who have already been struggling to deal with the unimaginable. This most recent news will undoubtedly pour salt into the raw wounds of family members and parents who lost their loved ones. They deserve better.

Israel should immediately provide a detailed timeline of what he knew and when. He must release the video so that we can see exactly what happened. After all, there is no reason to withhold it since the killer is in custody and the cat is now out of the bag.

Israel should also release all recordings of the 911 calls, as well as transcripts of the police radio transmissions.

Also, the officers from all law enforcement agencies who were there at the scene of the crime and saw firsthand what actually happened must step forward and be honest and open about what transpired without any fear of retribution.

America deserves the facts. The Parkland families and the survivors deserve the truth.

Don’t Forget the Legal Dreamers

by Newt Gingrich: Over the last six months, we have seen a government shut-down, much debate, multiple legal challenges, and countless protests over whether the federal government should extend legal status to the Dreamers – the 690,000 people who were brought to our country illegally as children who are currently enrolled in President Obama’s controversial Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

Throughout this debate over the DACA Dreamers, however, almost no attention has been paid to another group of Dreamers – a group that is here legally yet still faces the threat of being ejected from the United States and separated from their families.

These children came to the United States with their parents, who reside here thanks to employer-sponsored skill-based H-1B visas. As their parents wait for green cards – a process that for some can take decades due to backlog – some of these individuals turn 21 and lose their legal status to continue to live in the United States. This forgotten group has been dubbed the DALCA Dreamers – the “L” stands for “legal.”

These DALCA Dreamers call America home, they are educated in the United States, and many have the potential to significantly contribute to our society and overall economic prosperity. However, they have been largely ignored in the Left’s crusade to protect DACA Dreamers because the DALCA Dreamers don’t necessarily fit in an identity politics-focused electoral model that benefits Democrats.

As Senator Rand Paul pointed out in a letter to his Congressional colleagues, the predicament these children face is not currently solved by either DACA or the DREAM Act as written.

As Congress and the President work to fix our immigration problems – including finding a compassionate solution for DACA Dreamers – we must not allow these DALCA Dreamers to fall through the cracks and be forgotten.

This should be no problem for the Administration. Helping DALCA Dreamers fits perfectly with President Trump’s plan to create a merit-based immigration system. President Trump has repeatedly called for compromise and has outlined a fair, compassionate, and innovative framework for reforming our immigration system.

The White House Framework on Immigration Reform and Border Security lists “providing legal status for DACA recipients and other DACA-eligible illegal immigrants” as one of President Trump’s four priorities. President Trump’s plan provides a pathway to citizenship based on work, education, and moral character standards for 1.8 million individuals over the next 10 to 12 years – provided they do not break the law or threaten public safety or national security. The President should include the DALCA Dreamers under this pillar.

Last September, President Trump gave Congress six months to fix President Obama’s unconstitutional, overreaching DACA nightmare and exercise its constitutionally-vested power to fix our immigration system. However, thanks to a few activist court decisions, President Trump’s March 5 deadline has now come and gone.

The bright side is that while the DACA issue is being litigated in the courts, Congress has more time and opportunity to tackle this problem and develop a fair, compassionate system that ensures America remains the land of opportunity without sacrificing our safety or national security.

However, as lawmakers work on this solution, they must keep in mind how senseless, unfair, and hypocritical it would be to provide a fix for DACA Dreamers – who came here illegally – and neglect to provide a solution for the DALCA Dreamers who have followed the rules and are being victimized by our backlogged, broken system. At the same time, the ultimate solution must be fair and just for American citizens. As President Trump said in his State of the Union Address, “Americans are dreamers too.”

There is no doubt, fixing immigration will be difficult – but it is not impossible. Now is the time for legislators from both sides of the aisle to come together to provide a reasonable, fair solution for all the Dreamers living in our country.

America's Leading Anti-Semite, International Women's Day, Left-wing Psychosis

It turns out that Tamika Mallory, co-president of the Women's March, attended a recent speech by America's leading anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan. Mallory admitted this week that she has been attending Farrakhan's events for 30 years.

The left's relationship with Louis Farrakhan is getting some traction in conservative media outlets. But, with the notable exception of CNN's Jake Tapper, the silence of the mainstream media is deeply disturbing.

What is also disturbing is that some members of Congress, including then-Senator Barack Obama met Farrakhan at a secret Capitol Hill meeting in 2005. And new reporting finds that at least seven House Democrats, including Deputy DNC Chairman Keith Ellison, have "direct ties" to this bigot.

I know sometimes things get blown out of proportion in this hypersensitive politically correct age. But when it comes to Louis Farrakhan, there is no misunderstanding his views. Here are some quotes from Minister Farrakhan:

"The Satanic Jews that control everything and mostly everybody, if they are your enemy, then you must be somebody."

"No. You are not a Jew! I say you're a so-called Jew. You are Satan masquerading as a covenanted people of God."

"Bill Clinton refused to meet with an Israeli Prime Minister. The next thing you heard was 'Monica Lewinsky.' And all of those that were involved in scandalizing Bill Clinton, they happened to be Zionists."

"Thanks to the exemplary work of scholars like Victor Thorne and Christopher Bollyn it is now becoming apparent that there were many Israelis and Zionist Jews in key roles in the 9/11 attacks. . . It now appears that 9/11 was a false flag operation. . ."

Unfortunately, there is much, much more, which is why the Anti-Defamation League considers Louis Farrakhan to be "America's leading anti-Semite."

But where is the New York Times? Where is the Washington Post? Where are ABC, CBS and NBC? Why aren't they exposing this bigot and the politicians who support him?

Where are the members of the Congressional Black Caucus who once led the Civil Rights movement? Are they really comfortable caucusing with friends and supporters of Louis Farrakhan?

Sadly, these Democrats represent districts that are so left-wing that there is nothing they could do to get voted out of office, except perhaps saying something nice about Donald Trump. But other progressive leaders can be pressured to denounce the closet bigots who associate with Farrakhan.

What has Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said about Farrakhan's latest rant? Has Emanuel condemned Rep. Danny Davis (D-IL)? If not, why not? Our friends in Illinois should call Emanuel's office at 312-744-3334 and ask.

Then call 202-224-3121 and demand that Senators Durbin (D-IL) and Duckworth (D-IL) denounce Davis and Farrakhan.

What about Governor Jerry Brown? Has he condemned Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) for her support of Farrakhan? Our friends in California should call his office at 916-445-2841 and find out.

Then call Senators Feinstein (D-CA) and Harris (D-CA) and demand they denounce Waters and Farrakhan.

One of the left's favorite slogans is "Love Trumps Hate." It's time the left proved it by calling out Louis Farrakhan's hate and by purging his supporters from its ranks.

International Women's Day - Today is International (Liberal) Women's Day. I write that with certainty because only certain women will be honored today.

If you are a woman and do not believe that innocent unborn children should be destroyed in the womb, you will not be honored today.

If you are a single mother in the inner city who owns a firearm to protect your children, you will not be honored today.

If you were a conservative woman who served in public office with distinction, you will not receive any awards today.

If you are a woman of faith who listens to God for His direction in your life, there will be no banquets for you today.

In fact, it is more likely that a man in Hollywood, in politics, in sports or the media who claims he is a woman will get more acclaim today than you will.

In case you had any doubts as to how International Women's Day would be presented, all you had to do was turn on the TV and watch ABC's "Good Moring America" celebrating Hillary Clinton.

Left-wing Psychosis - A regular feature of this daily report is demonstrating the many fallacies of "left-wing logic" and just how insane the left can be. This is one of those times.

PolitiFact Texas recently decided to fact check the following statement from congressional candidate Jason Isaac: "I will work to end abortion, which is the leading cause of death for black Americans and kills as many as 1,000 black children every day."

PolitiFact's W. Gardner Selby didn't get very far before he got tripped up on the facts. Before crunching the numbers to determine the leading cause of death among blacks, Selby declared:

"But it's worth noting for starters that Isaac's characterization of abortions as killing babies is disputed. . . the CDC doesn't say abortions kill babies; it defines a 'legal induced abortion' as 'an intervention . . . that is intended to terminate an ongoing pregnancy.'"

Selby ultimately declared Isaac's statement "Mostly False" because he refused to accept the fact that an unborn fetus is a living child and because the CDC "didn't list the abortion procedure among causes of death."

Such is the logic of the left.

Here's another example: Planned Parenthood recently celebrated the "fact" that "Some men have a uterus." That was news to me! Apparently I was absent that day during biology class.

Progressives also think that you are "assigned" your gender at birth. In fact, there is a movement in some schools to let kids choose their own gender, just in case the parents or doctor got it wrong on their birthday.

In all seriousness, my friends, one of the signs of psychosis is the inability to discern reality. Clearly, the left is in the grip of widespread and prolonged psychosis.
