Demonstrators With Nazi Signs From Local Democrat Congresswoman's Campaign Office
By P.J. Gladnick, NewsBusters: Joliet, Illinois must be a community absolutely bursting with newsworthy events. Why? Because the Herald-News newspaper in that city was (conveniently) unable to cover a local news story that has become a sizzling hot topic in the blogosphere. All one has to do is enter the name of the Illinois 11th Congressional District Congresswoman, Debbie Halvorson, into Google Blog Search and you will get results chock full of a shocking incident a few days ago, including this video. The Frugal Café Blog Zone, which is but one of many sites covering this, explains:
Would MSNBC or CNN have featured this shocking story if the vile protesters at the Nazi-themed protest were CONSERVATIVES or REPUBLICANS or if left-wing extremists had dressed up like Nazis and crashed a tea party posing as conservatives or Republicans? Why do you even ask? Of course they would.
When interviewed in the video below, these anti-conservative protesters in Joliet, outside Chicago — proudly carrying Nazi-esque signs slamming GOP congressional opponent Adam Kinzinger and other well-known conservatives, like Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin — denied several times being there in support of, or affiliated with, Democrat Rep. Debbie Halvorson. Congresswoman Halvorson is running against Kinzinger in the November election.
...Much later, these bogus grassroots protesters were videotaped returning to the congresswoman’s campaign office in the dark of night. Obviously, they’re part of the liberal congresswoman’s camp. Unless Halvorson had NO IDEA that these left-wing extremist folks had her campaign office keys and gained access to her office. They look pretty darned cozy in there in the video with Julie Merz, Halvorson’s campaign manager.
Many prominent blogs are now covering this shocking story of dirty campaign tactics . . . What will it take to get the Herald-News to cover this unfolding story in its own backyard of Joliet? A banner headline at the top of the Drudge Report linking to the video of the demonstrators with the Nazi themed signs returning home to the Debbie Halvorson campaign headquarters? Today in Washington, D.C. - Sept 17, 2010 - More Examples of Stimulus Waste and Failure Surface, Dems Have No Regrets
With the continued examples of stimulus waste and failures being revealed, I hope you are registered to vote and sharing information like the following with 5 to 10 other people. Some people even have established a circle of 50 to 100 people with whom they share information. November is Coming!
The Senate is in recess until 2 PM on Monday after doing its dirty deeds yesterday. Forty seven (47) Democrats voted against adding President Obama’s proposal to permanently extend the research and development tax credit to their small business lending bill. Also rejected was an attempt by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) to extend the biodiesel tax credit. Following those votes, the Senate passed, 61-38, the Small Business bill, H.R. 5297. To better understand the pitfalls and issues, check out Thuggery 101 Sam Sherraden of the Hill offers "key provisions of Senate and House small-business bills."
According to ABC News, the White House is again attempting sell its failed $814 billion stimulus bill as a success. But a much more indicative story of how the stimulus has performed comes out of Los Angeles today.
The Los Angeles Times reports, “Two Los Angeles departments have received $111 million in federal stimulus funds yet have created only 55 jobs so far, according to a pair of reports issued Thursday by City Controller Wendy Greuel.” And the International Business Times adds, “‘I'm disappointed that we've only created or retained 55 jobs after receiving $111 million,’ says Wendy Greuel, the city's controller, while releasing an audit report. ‘With our local unemployment rate over 12% we need to do a better job cutting red tape and putting Angelenos back to work,’ she added. According to the report, the Los Angeles Department of Public Works generated only 45.46 jobs (the fraction of a job created or retained correlates to the number of actual hours works) after receiving $70.65 million, while the target was 238 jobs. Similarly, the city’s department of transportation, armed with a $40.8 million fund, created only 9 jobs in place of an expected 26 jobs.”
So where has the stimulus money gone? The Wall Street Journal reports today, “More than $3.7 billion of stimulus contracts, grants and loans have gone to recipients in the District of Columbia and two adjacent congressional districts—Maryland's 8th District and Virginia's 8th District. That amounts to nearly $2,000 for every resident—nearly three times the national average, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis of reports filed by recipients.”
But it appears the bulk of this money has actually gone to firms managing the extra bureaucracy created by the stimulus. According to the WSJ, “More than $2.2 billion of the stimulus money awarded to the Washington area has gone to private firms, many of which are helping federal agencies with the administrative work generated by the sprawling effort: deciding how to award funds, drawing up contracts and monitoring and auditing spending.”
As Kimberley Strassel notes in her column today, “By now, the $800 billion ‘stimulus’ was supposed to have the economy roaring back and unemployment well below 8%. The administration was supposed to be resting on its legislative laurels, the public showing growing appreciation for its agenda.” Of course, this hasn’t happened. Unemployment is at 9.6% and 3.3 million jobs have been lost since the stimulus bill was signed. And it seems that of the few jobs that were funded by stimulus money, most wound up being in and around Washington, with many simply existing to administer the rest of the stimulus.
Americans aren’t enamored with this state of affairs, as ABC points out. “The latest ABC News/Washington Post poll showed 92 percent of Americans say the economy's in bad shape while a mere 24 percent believe it's improving. And for the first time, more people think President Obama has hurt the economy than helped it, 33 percent to 30 percent. In addition, the number of people who believe he's helped the economy has dropped by 9 percentage points since spring.”
Yet in spite of all of this, Democrats still apparently have no regrets. The Hill reports, “Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said Thursday she had no doubts that the economic measures undertaken in the House this term were best suited to aid the economy. . . . ‘No,’ Pelosi responded when asked if Democrats' ‘recipe was off’ for economic recovery.” Pelosi and the White House may be pleased with the budget-busting stimulus bill’s dismal record of job creation, but Americans can see that Democrats’ economic policies have not lived up to their promises and are not the right solutions to put people back to work. Bill Smith, Editor: The following "Tokyo Rove" cartoon by William Warren expresses the frustration people have with the self-proclaimed establishment Republicans. This is very interesting because, in truth, there are really no "establishment" Republicans. There are financial and political power brokers who are trying to direct the ragging conservative elephant by holding on to its tail. Then there are the "talking heads" elevated by the media as experts. On the left, there are the cheerleaders of socialism and Barack Obama. On the right, there are some "right minded folks" but there are also a whole lot of the people playing the "fair and balanced" approach when in fact there is very little that is "fair and balanced" in the elitist progressive takeover of America.
Republicanism is based on principle and platform and not on the 30 second sound bites by paid commentators. Also, everyone is entitled to a mistake, and in this case Karl Rove made a big one. But thank you Karl Rove and even the raving leftist lunatics. Your comments helped Christine O'Donnell raise over $750,000 in one day. Even the "established" Republican funding sources are sending money to O'Doannell to distance themselves from negative comments.
William Warren could have illustrated a "foot in mouth" cartoon for Karl Rove but as I heard one person say, "Rove's mouth is far bigger than his foot." Most conservatives have come to expect the mean-spirited negative comments from leftest media pundits who are intent on vilifying the right and supporting their progressive elitist agenda. However, we are extremely disappointed when those who claim to be conservative are also demeaning the successes of conservative people and voters on the front lines of their states. The pundits could at least take a breath or two before immediately attacking the success of grassroots conservatives. It would be good for all the "conservative" pundits to consider that "We the People" have clearly noted that most of the pundits are playing catch-up with the conservative movement and are continually illustrating the old adage, "I must hasten after them for I am their leader."
As Herman Cain said yesterday, "Another One Bites the Dust - Mike Castle is out. This is just one more example of the citizen movement getting bigger and making more of an impact. The people's voice is returning to politics and the naysayers are being overwhelmed. Even "establishment" Republicans are being forced to take note."

Growing Chorus: Do Not Raise Taxes on Small Business in a Recession
A Growing Chorus Of Democrats Reject President Obama’s Plan To Raise Taxes On Small Businesses In The Middle Of A Recession
A GROWING CHORUS OF SENATE DEMOCRATS AGREE: DON’T RAISE TAXES DURING A RECESSION
SEN. JOE LIEBERMAN (ID-CT):“I Don't Think It Makes Sense To Raise Any Federal Taxes During The Uncertain Economy We Are Struggling Through. The more money we leave in private hands, the quicker our economic recovery will be. And that means I will do everything I can to make sure Congress extends the so-called Bush tax cuts for another year and takes action to prevent the estate tax from rising back to where it was. In our current economic situation, we cannot risk the economic headwinds that would be caused by tax increases. We need to keep as much money as possible in people's pockets and business's bank accounts.” (Sen. Lieberman, Press Release, 9/13/10)
SEN. BEN NELSON (D-NE): “I Support Extending All Of The Expiring Tax Cuts Until Nebraska’s And The Nation’s Economy Is In Better Shape, And Perhaps Longer, Because Raising Taxes In A Weak Economy Could Impair Recovery. Continuing all of the tax cuts could provide certainty for families and businesses in Nebraska and nationwide.” (Sen. Nelson, Press Release, 9/9/10)
SEN. JIM WEBB (D-VA): “I Don't Think They Ought To Be Drawing A Distinction At $250-K.” “Sen Jim Webb, D-Va., on Friday questioned the wisdom of extending only a portion of the Bush tax cuts set to expire at the end of this year, joining a growing list of moderate Democrats expressing skepticism or outright opposition to allowing tax cuts for the well-to-do to expire in a recession. ‘I don't think they ought to be drawing a distinction at $250-k,’ Webb told Fox, referring to Bush-era tax rates that are now lower for couples earning more than that amount.” (“Fox News: Another Dem Questions Wisdom Of Extending Only Part Of Bush Tax Cuts,” Fox News, 9/10/10)
A GROWING CHORUS OF HOUSE DEMOCRATS AGREE: DON’T RAISE TAXES DURING A RECESSION
“31 Jittery Democrats … Signed A Letter Urging Pelosi, D-Calif., And Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., To Abandon The Obama Plan And Extend To Everyone The Bush-Era Tax Cuts Due To Expire At The End Of The Year, According To One Of Its Authors, Rep. Jim Matheson, D-Utah.”(“More House Democrats Call For Tax Cuts For All,” The Associated Press, 9/15/10)
DEM CONGRESSMEN: “Raising Any Taxes Right Now Could Negatively Impact Economic Growth.” “We urge you to consider legislation to extend all of the income tax cuts contained in The Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001 (P.L.#107-16). In recent weeks, we have heard from a diverse spectrum of economists, small business owners, and families who have voiced concerns that raising any taxes right now could negatively impact economic growth.” Signed By Rep. FLASHBACK ‘09: PRESIDENT OBAMA OPPOSED RAISING TAXES DURING A RECESSION

Today in Washington, D.C. - Sept 16, 2010 - Growing Chorus Amoung House Dems: "It's Not Good Policy To Raise Taxes In A Recession"
Today, the Senate passed the Democrats’ small business lending bill, H.R. 5297, 61-38. The bill allegedly creates a $30 billion government fund (stimulus) to help open lending for credit-starved small businesses, cut their taxes and boost federal loan programs for them. The vote represented a victory for President Obama and sets the stage for a final vote in the House, which is likely to approve it for Obama's signature.
As the debate over whether to allow a massive tax increase in January continues on Capitol Hill, a few telling news stories came out yesterday afternoon, showing a growing bipartisan chorus against tax hikes on any Americans. The AP reported, “More Democrats joined Republicans on Wednesday in calling for the preservation of tax breaks for Americans of every income level, bolting this election season from President Barack Obama's plan to preserve cuts for those who earn less than $200,000 and let taxes for the wealthy rise. ‘We should not be raising taxes in the middle of a recession,’ Rep. Jim Marshall, D-Ga., who's facing tough odds in his bid for a fourth term, wrote in a terse letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. ‘It is essential that we keep things as they are in the short term,’ said Rep. Travis W. Childers, D-Miss., another conservative incumbent in a tight race, whose district, like Marshall's, voted for Republican John McCain in the 2008 presidential race.”
According to CNN, “Thirty-one House Democrats, most of whom face tough re-election bids this fall, have signed a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer urging them to extend expiring tax breaks for all income levels, including the wealthy. . . . The letter–written by Utah Rep. Jim Matheson, Illinois Rep. Melissa Bean, Virginia Rep. Glenn Nye and Michigan Rep. Gary Peters–states that after listening to economists, small businesses and families over recent weeks they are concerned that ‘raising any taxes right now could negatively impact economic growth.’”
CNN noted, “[W]ith more than 30 Democrats now signed on to the final letter, Democratic leaders will face increasing pressure to address the concerns of these moderate members.” And Dow Jones added, “Democratic leaders are facing stiff headwinds as they try to unify their party around a plan to let taxes on upper-income people increase. . . . Democratic leaders are fighting back with new polling data that shows majorities of likely voters favor letting taxes on the wealthy rise. But many Democrats are unpersuaded. The polling at a national level may not reflect voter sentiment in their individual districts. And some claim there is a visceral dislike of tax hikes that belies the polls. ‘In my head, I know it's not good policy to raise taxes in a recession. And in my heart, I know it's bad politics to raise taxes at any time,’ said Rep. Michael McMahon (D-NY). ‘That's why I question the polls.’”
Indeed, other polls suggest that Rep. McMahon is on the right track. The AP reports today, “Almost half the country opposes tax increases for the richest Americans, according to a poll suggesting that congressional Democrats are taking some risk by backing President Barack Obama's plan to boost levies on the wealthy.” The AP notes, “While about three-fourths of Democrats favor raising taxes on the rich, about half of independents and nearly two-thirds of Republicans oppose the idea. Support for cutting everyone's taxes exceeds four in 10 people in every region of the U.S. except the Midwest, where one-third back the proposal. Even among people earning under $50,000 a year - mainstays of the Democratic Party - 43 percent want to continue the tax cuts for all.”
As Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell told Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren last night, “I think it is important to remember that the best solution is to raise taxes on no one.” With an ever-increasing number of Democrats joining Republicans in rejecting any tax increases next year, the Obama administration and Democrat leaders are finding less support for their desire to allow taxes to go up. The Democrat House members who wrote to Speaker Nancy Pelosi put it well, when they said, “We believe in times of economic recovery it makes good sense to maintain things as they are in the short term, to provide families and businesses the certainty required to plan and make sound budget decisions. Providing this certainty will give small businesses, the backbone of our economic recovery, confidence and stability.” If President Obama really wants to help the economy and especially small businesses, he would do well to listen to this group of fellow Democrats. by Bill Smith, Editor: I am riding the Spending Revolt Bus Tour across Arkansas. This is the last day in a three day event. Yesterday, we had two key representatives for the sponsors of the bus tour join us. Wendy Wright, President of Concerned Women for America and Tim Phillips, President of Americans for Prosperity, both spoke about different aspects of government overspending.
Today, Herman Cain, national conservative radio show host and guest speaker, joined the bus tour. Also known to his friends as the Hermanator, Cain speaks boldly on the issues affecting America. Today, he also broadcast his national show from Arkansas. I had some one-on-one time with Herman and asked him what issues he covered in his radio show and would share today in Newport News and Jonesboro, Arkansas. Below is summary of some of Herman's comments:
1. Another One Bites the Dust - Mike Castle is out. This is just one more example of the citizen movement getting bigger and making more of an impact. The people's voice is returning to politics and the naysayers are being overwhelmed. Even "establishment" Republicans are being forced to take note.
2. In response, the lefties are trying to "marginalize" and "minimize" the truth of what is happening.
3. Obama and his allies are getting ready to promote a "health care blitz" - promoting Obama's lousy heath care bill. What Obama and his administration are doing is "Double Arrogance" First, they pass this bill over the will of the people and now they want to tell us how good the bill is for us.
4. Harry Reid is going to try and pass a $30 Billion aid package for Small Business through the Senate. This bill costs the taxpayers money they don't have and will just create more strings for small business. Reid is also moving forward with a desperate attempt to insert amnesty (the Dream Act) in a defense bill. Once again, Reid inserts an unrelated off-topic issue into a bill which would advance his liberal agenda.
5. Take a piece of paper and write $45,000 on it. This is what every man, women and child owes in America to the national debt. When we can't pay the interest payments, foreign countries are going to stop financing our debt, and the government is going to shut down. Might sound good, but chaos will happen.

Special Alert Regarding NRSC and Christine O'Donnell
by Dianne Edmondson, Executive Director RNC For Life: Sen. John Cornyn (TX) has announced this morning that the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), will be assisting in Christine O'Donnell's campaign for the Delaware U.S. Senate seat left vacant by Vice President Joe Biden. "I am trying to reach her as soon as possible," Cornyn told Dianne Edmondson of the RNC for Life, "and offer her our full assistance and backing."
Cornyn said he has no idea who or why a false statement was leaked to the media last night saying the NRSC would not be backing O'Donnell, and that he is issuing his statement of support through multiple media channels today. He reminded Republicans that the NRSC is fully supporting other "non-Establishment" GOP nominees such as Sharron Angle in Nevada and Joe Miller in Alaska and that O'Donnell will also be fully supported.
O'Donnell, who was endorsed by RNC for Life in the Primary as 100% pro-life, scored an upset victory Tuesday in the Delaware race against the most liberal Republican member of Congress, Mike Castle, Delaware's only Congressman who also was seeking the Republican nomination for the open Senate seat. She also was endorsed by Sen. Jim DeMint, Sarah Palin and the TEA Party movement. This grassroots support, coupled with growing citizen discontent with Washington insiders (such as Castle) powered her to a 53% - 47% victory yesterday.
It will be an uphill battle for O'Donnell in November, and she will need our help to overcome her well-funded Democrat opponent. But in this year of Republican "hope and change," we can help her take this seat in normally "blue" Delaware. She has the grassroots campaign in place and now will have the backing of the national and state GOP. Let's help her have enough campaign funds to offset what is sure to be a massive negative campaign against this solid conservative candidate with Eagle Forum/RNC-Life roots.
In this apparently Republican year, one can expect many dirty tricks on the part of the Democrats. Divide and conquer is the oldest political strategy so perhaps it was a Democrat who "leaked" that false rumor! Let's remember that we need to be united in November to hand this huge national defeat to the Democrats. Pence: "Raising taxes on job creators won't create jobs"
Washington, DC - U.S. Congressman Mike Pence, gave the following statement today at a GOP Leadership press conference:
“Over the past six weeks I traveled all across the state of Indiana. I met with small business owners, family farmers, working families, and it's clear the economic policies of this administration have failed. What I heard over and over again from everyday Hoosiers was that the policies of this administration have paralyzed small businesses in this country.
“Whether it be out of control spending, government mandated healthcare, the threat of a national energy tax, cap and trade, the possibility of tax increases in January, all of these policies are creating a paralysis in small business like really I've never seen in my lifetime.
“And no single policy is having a greater effect on hindering job creation than the possibility of a tax increase in January.
“Higher taxes won't get anybody hired. Raising taxes on job creators won't create jobs. And House Republicans will stand united to oppose any tax increase on any American in January.”

Today in Washington, D.C. - Sept 15, 2010 - More Democrats Oppose Obama Plan To Raise Taxes In January
The Senate resumed post-cloture consideration of the Reid-Baucus substitute amendment to the Democrats’ small business lending bill, H.R. 5297. Votes are possible today on cloture on the underlying bill and various motions on the bill.
Yesterday, 52 Senate Democrats voted to keep small businesses burdened with the onerous 1099 paperwork mandate created by the health care bill by voting down the Johanns amendment. Following that, 56 Democrats voted for an inadequate, watered-down version that wouldn’t repeal the 1099 provision and would also raise taxes on energy companies. However, both amendments needed 60 votes to be adopted, so both failed. Also, the Senate voted 61-37 to invoke cloture on the Reid-Baucus substitute amendment to the bill.
Roll Call writes today, “Rather than wasting time comparing notes on how they spent their summer vacations, Senate Democrats celebrated their first full day back at work Tuesday by fighting over whether and how to extend expiring Bush-era tax cuts. Democratic Senators and aides said their regular Tuesday lunch turned into a free-for-all over how to tackle an issue that has rarely cut in Democrats’ favor and has some Senators nervous given that the majority expects to sustain substantial losses in both chambers come Nov. 2.”
In fact, there seems to be growing bipartisan agreement that Congress should not raise taxes on any Americans in the middle of a severe recession, despite the desires of the White House. The Wall Street Journal reported yesterday, “Illustrating the tough sledding ahead in the Senate, Sen. Ben Nelson (D., Neb.), who wants to extend the tax cuts for everyone, didn’t back off his position Tuesday. ‘I favor extending all of the Bush tax cuts, every one of them,’ he said. As for letting the cuts expire just for those making more than $1 million a year, a possibility discussed recently by the Senate Democratic leaders, Mr. Nelson said, ‘My sense is that raising taxes at a time when you’re trying to stimulate economic recovery is the wrong way to go.’” On Monday, Sen. Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) said, “I don’t think it makes sense to raise any federal taxes during the uncertain economy we are struggling through. . . . [T]hat means I will do everything I can to make sure Congress extends the so-called Bush tax cuts for another year . . . . In our current economic situation, we cannot risk the economic headwinds that would be caused by tax increases. We need to keep as much money as possible in people’s pockets and business’s bank accounts.” And Fox News reports, “The growing chorus of Democrats who oppose extending only the middle class Bush tax cuts just got a bit louder. West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin, who is seeking the Senate seat long held by the late Robert C. Byrd, just told Fox emphatically, ‘I wouldn’t raise any taxes.’”
An increasing number of House Democrats apparently agrees. According to Politico’s Huddle today, “In a one-man letter, Georgia Rep. Jim Marshall told Speaker Nancy Pelosi he wants to freeze tax rates for folks at all income levels, rather than letting them go up for top earners. ‘Simply put, we should not be raising taxes in the middle of a recession,’ he wrote. The number of House Democrats who have taken that position publicly is growing, with a letter led by Reps. Jim Matheson (Utah), Melissa Bean (Ill.), Gary Peters (Mich.) and Glenn Nye (Va.) due for delivery today. . . . A source e-mails: ‘Between the moderates’ letter and the Members who are even more aggressive in extending the upper bracket, we have over 30 bodies on the board and the speaker has to take pause if that’s the case.’”
As Roll Call notes, “[Senate Republican Leader Mitch] McConnell on Tuesday reiterated that Republicans are united against raising taxes on the rich because they believe it would affect as many as 750,000 small businesses. ‘What we ought not to be doing is raising taxes on anybody in the middle of a recession. We know that there’s bipartisan agreement with that,’ McConnell told reporters.”
On Monday, Sen. McConnell actually introduced a bill, the Tax Hike Prevention Act, to make current tax rates permanent and prevent across-the-board tax hikes come January. Explaining his bill in a speech on the Senate floor Monday, Sen. McConnell said, “Americans have had it. They’re tired of Democrat leaders in Washington pursuing the same government-driven programs that have done nothing but add to the debt and the burden of government. We can’t allow this administration to demand that small business owners in this country pay for its own fiscal recklessness. And that’s why I’m introducing legislation today that ensures that no one in this country will pay higher income taxes next year than they are right now. We can’t let the people who’ve been hit hardest by this recession and who we need to create the jobs that will get us out of it foot the bill for the Democrats’ two-year adventure in expanded government.”
Hopefully, more Democrats will join the growing bipartisan chorus speaking out against raising taxes on any Americans next year. It’s time to stop adding to the uncertainty of job creators and at the same time give assurances to all Americans that they won’t face a massive tax increase on New Year’s Day. . . . Tax Cuts. That is the question. Here is how our favorite cartoonist William Warren sees it:
Here is how Jonathan Allen in Politico sees the latest back and forth in the US House on taxes: House Republicans want a straight vote on whether Congress should extend expiring income tax rates for all earners or just those in the lower and middle tiers, according to a letter sent to House Rules Committee Chairwoman Louise Slaughter Monday afternoon.
The tax fight has cut across party lines, with most Republicans and a handful of Democrats advocating for an extension of the lower rates for everyone as Democratic leaders in the White House and Congress insist on allowing the rates for households that make more than $250,000 per couple to increase to pre-2001 levels.
House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) touched off an intense back-and-forth Sunday by saying on CBS' Face the Nation that he would vote to extend the rates for lower- and middle-income brackets only if Democratic leaders forced him to vote on a bill that would cut taxes for those groups but not folks who make more money. Though he also noted that he would work to ensure that the rates for every bracket would be held harmless, Democrats seized on what appeared to be equivocation on GOP orthodoxy.
Now GOP Rules members say the House should have the opportunity to work its will on which rates will be extended. They wrote to Slaughter Monday asking that "the Rules Committee provide for as open and free-flowing debate as possible when the legislation to extend the current tax rates reaches the floor."
In other words, they want a chance to vote for an extension of the rates for all income brackets — even if Democratic leaders prefer to bring a bill to the floor that would result in upper-income taxpayers getting a rate hike. It's not just Republicans who want to avert an increase for wealthier taxpayers. A group of House moderates is circulating a letter asking House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer to find a solution that provides for at least a temporary extension of the current rates for all income levels. They plan to deliver their letter Tuesday.
Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) has argued behind closed doors for a short-term fix and told Bloomberg News that he would be open to negotiating for a temporary extension for upper income brackets if Republicans would agree to making the middle and lower tiers permanent. Some Democrats in competitive districts worry that they will be attacked for raising taxes if they hold the rates steady for couples who make less than $250,000 but let them expire for those who earn more.
Citing bipartisan concerns, Republican Rules Committee members say they deserve a chance to amend whatever legislation House Democratic leaders bring to the floor. "Our economy is suffering from uncertainty. The Congress will have to act on this critical issue. It's our hope that when it does, the Rules Committee will allow the American people to see a full-fledged debate that considers all policy positions seeking to lower the tax burden for all Americans and getting our economy back on track," Reps. David Dreier (CA), Pete Sessions (TX), Lincoln Diaz-Balart (FL) and Virginia Foxx (NC) wrote to Slaughter (D-NY).
Tax bills seldom, if ever, come to the House floor under "open" rules, which allow for unlimited amendments. But a rule for consideration of a tax bill could provide for a small number of carefully drafted amendments. And the debate appears almost entirely hypothetical at this point, because Senate Democratic leaders probably don't have the votes to approve a partial extension for just low- and middle-income workers.
Republicans say they are frustrated with President Barack Obama and congressional Democratic leaders who are fighting to let the top rates expire. "When it comes to the economy this administration is always about winners vs losers. They could not stand to do anything that allowed every one to benefit - it might create jobs," said Rep. Jack Kingston (R-GA).
Slaughter spokesman Vince Morris said the Rules Committee will go through its normal process . . .

The federal government is currently spending $112,000 every second. This amounts to $67 million in the 10 minutes needed to take a shower and more than $1 billion in the 162 minutes that the average American spends watching television each day. The national debt has ballooned to more than $13 trillion, and America’s debt is now projected to surpass GDP by 2012 – placing the U.S. closer to the crushing debt load that has engulfed Greece.
“America faces a severe spending crisis that is rapidly bankrupting our nation,” said a coalition statement. “Current spending levels are unsustainable, irresponsible, and negligent – and show that Washington is failing in its responsibility to safeguard the people’s resources. We need real, permanent, and immediate spending reform in Washington to protect the economic security of all Americans. We will fight for the taxpayers of Arkansas and across America to stop this reckless spending.”

TEA Party Miracle - Christine O'Donnell Wins in Delaware
The below photo says it all: ANOTHER ONE (RINO) BITES THE DUST!!! "Christine O'Donnell has defeated Mike Castle and the establishment is terrified. November is Coming!"
The conservatives in Delaware have spoken rather they win or lose in November, they will no longer tolerate an incumbent politician who is less than "moderate" to jump from the House to the US Senate. They are willing to do all they can to elect a conservative and if the conservative losses - so be it! No RINOs need apply!
While NRSC executive director Rob Jesmer congratulated Christine O’Donnell for her nomination after a hard-fought primary campaign in Delaware, the wire services are already reporting that a top Republican official told CNN, "Until she demonstrates some viability in the polls we are not going to have any money for her. It is now incumbent on Sarah Palin, Jim DeMint and the Tea Party Express to help support her. They got her here. Now make it happen."
This is very disappointing if true. The people voted for O'Donnell verses Castle and "someone" in the GOP allegedly says they will not support her without proof of high polls. They then in reality allegedly attack Tea Party Express, Jim Demint, and Sarah Palin. If this claim is true, it is most disappointing and the top GOP official needs to be identified and removed from and status that allows for them to be called a "top" Republican. If it is not true, then CNN is up to its old tricks by claiming someone as a "top Republican" when they do not even exist.
Fox News is reporting that the NRSC will not support O'Donnell. If true, this was stupid for someone at the NRSC to say because they would be nullifying the vote of the people. Rob Jesmer, the NRSC executive director, is smarter than this. Fox News should identify specifically who said the statement otherwise their reporting is discredited and follows after low reporting standards of the liberal media. Today in Washington, D.C. - Sept 14, 2010 - Will Democrats Vote To Stop Obama's Policies From Hurting Small Businesses?
The Senate began a series of cloture votes on amendments to Democrats’ small business lending bill, H.R. 5297. Senators will vote on an amendment to the bill from Sen. Mike Johanns (R-NE) which would repeal the onerous 1099 reporting requirements from the health care law, an amendment from Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) that only partially relaxes those requirements for a few businesses, and cloture on the underlying substitute amendment for the bill. Yesterday the Senate voted 71-21 to confirm Jane Stranch to be a judge on the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals.
Earlier this month when the disappointing August unemployment numbers were released, President Obama said, “[O]ne thing we also have to do right now –- one thing we have a responsibility to do right now –- is to lift up our small businesses, which accounted for over 60 percent of job losses in the final months of last year. That's why once again, I’m calling on Congress to make passing a small business jobs bill its first order of business when it gets back into session later this month.” The Senate actually has an opportunity to help small businesses in two ways this week: reverse some of the damage Democrats have already done to small businesses by repealing the 1099 paperwork mandate from the health care law and provide some certainty to employers by preventing massive tax increases next January.
It’s no secret that Democrats’ policies are hurting small businesses. Among the concerns Democrats have created for small business owners are a “flood of new tax paperwork,” new “regulatory burdens,” and “uncertainty over looming tax increases.”
Speaking on the floor this morning, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell explained one of the worst new mandates in Democrats’ health care law: “As a way of helping fund their health spending bill, Democrats inserted a backdoor tax known as the 1099 Mandate that forces small businesses to bear the burden of their plan. It mandates that every business and charity in the country submit 1099 forms for transactions totaling $600 or more — including routine business expenses like phones, office products, and shipping costs.”
Sen. Mike Johanns (R-NE) offered an amendment today to repeal this costly mandate. Discussing the Johanns amendment in an editorial today, The Wall Street Journal writes, “[S]mall businesses are staring in horror toward 2013, when the 1099 mandate will hit more than 30 million of them. . . . But the White House is opposing this because it fears it would set a precedent for repealing the larger health bill.” The WSJ goes on to blast the Democrats for voting for this bill in the first place: “Most Democrats now claim they were blindsided and didn't understand the implications of the 1099 provision—which is typical of the slapdash, destructive way the bill was written and passed. As the critics claimed, most Members had no idea what they were voting on. . . . Enough Democrats may bend to White House wishes and produce a stalemate, but this issue won't go away. The President's opposition to a clean repeal shows the hollowness of his alleged support for small business, which he expresses at every campaign stop but is less a priority than preserving his health-care legacy.”
Democrats will shortly have another choice to make on whether to help small businesses. Like the health care bill, another plan from the Obama administration, this time to allow taxes to go up in January, has the potential to wreak havoc on small businesses. Indeed, The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this week, “The economy remains the biggest factor in many investors' and businesses' decisions. But worries over whether Congress will extend some of the expiring Bush-era tax breaks are emerging as another important one. . . . Small-business owners say unease about tax policy, along with the economy, has led them to hold off on hiring and investment.”
So as Politico reported, “Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) introduced legislation Monday to freeze the current tax rates across the board, saying that Americans ‘have had it’ with Democrats trying to raise taxes in a recession.” Sen. McConnell explained, “We can’t let the people who’ve been hit hardest by this recession and who we need to create the jobs that will get us out of it foot the bill for the Democrats’ two-year adventure in expanded government. We can’t allow America’s job creators to pay for Democrats’ out-of-control spending over the past two years any more than we can allow Main Street to pay for the greed of Wall Street. Wall Street should pay for its own excess. So should the administration and Democrat leaders in Washington.”
If President Obama and Democrats are serious about “lift[ing] up our small businesses,” they should support the Johanns amendment to repeal a costly, burdensome paperwork mandate from the health care law and Sen. McConnell’s bill to prevent record tax increases in January. Tags:Washington, D.C., US Senate, Small business, form 1099, taxes, the economy,To share or post to your site, click on "Post Link". Eagle Forum: As the elections of 2010 loom closer, the politics of Barack Obama's reign are a swirling miasma in which many of the American electorate are caught up. But the most critical issue in this elections — as in American politics and law in general — is the continuous dying process of our venerable Constitution and how we can — MUST — revive it.
This situation is described so aptly by former U. S. Senator Sam Ervin that we repeat here his words as quoted in the opening of our last Court Watch study. In 1981, Ervin wrote that
The usurpation of this power [to amend the Constitution] by Supreme Court Justices does not prove that the Constitution is a living instrument of government. On the contrary, it proves that the Constitution is dead, and that the people of our land are being ruled by the transitory personal notions of Justices who occupy for a fleeting moment of history seats on the Supreme Court bench rather than by the enduring precepts of the Constitution. [emphasis added]
Today, we may correctly argue that the Constitution is not quite dead. It is also accurate to argue that the moribund condition of our basic document is indeed due to U.S. Supreme Court Justices, who interpret the Constitution, not according to its "enduring precepts," but according to their "transitory personal notions." And there is every reason to make these judicial death blows — and how to repel them effectively — the center of all our political/legal life.
We must
Make it a primary national priority to protect and promote the survival and health of the U.S. Constitution, and
Be armed to declare and defend the "Fundamental Four" — facts/talking points which advance our primary priority.
The "Fundamental Four" talking points are listed below: T.P. #1:Any legal system (including that of the U.S.) can survive and thrive ONLY if it continues to be characterized by the three Cs — certainty, consistency, and continuity.
T.P. #2:Constitutionalist theory/Judeo-Christian worldview is the only approach to the Constitution which will protect and promote the three Cs in America's law and culture.
A "worldview" is a depiction of reality; only the worldview approach adequately explains reality. A "worldview" consists of an orderly arrangement of inherent, interrelated components central to a particular worldview.
A central component of a worldview is "constitutional theory," consisting of an organized system of core concepts.
The Judeo-Christian worldview and the constitutionalist theory it encompasses manifest characteristics unique to this worldview and superior to any alternative.
T. P. #3: In America's current Culture War, the three Cs are being undermined by Humanists/Reconstructionists' war against Constitutionalists for control of America's Constitutional theory (principles). This fierce assault is most forcefully and clearly revealed in court decisions (products) concerning the specific issue areas of religious liberties, evolutionism v. creationism, life, and homosexual rights/marriage.
T. P. #4:Americans have the mandate — and the muscle — to fight more effectively to Revive the Constitution!
Basic principles support the mandate.
Specific plans exist for implementing the mandate.
EVERY AMERICAN PATRIOT SHOULD — AND CAN — UNDERSTAND AND EFFECTIVELY USE THESE POWERFUL TALKING POINTS TO REVIVE THE CONSTITUTION. SOUND INTIMIDATING? BLACKSTONE CAN HELP!

Gary Bauer, Contributing Author: At Ground Zero in New York, at the Pentagon and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where United Flight 93 was brought down, Americans gathered on Saturday to mark the ninth anniversary of the Islamic jihadist attack on America. Fox News devoted most of Saturday to coverage of the ceremonies. It also played a montage of clips from its broadcast in 2001 as the events of that terrible day unfolded before a shocked nation.
There have been a lot of shocks in the last nine years. We have seen beheadings, attacks on civilians and bombings in cities like London and Madrid. We witnessed the Thanksgiving attack in Mumbai, India, the attempted Christmas eve bombing as well as dozens of plots uncovered around the globe.
We have seen acid thrown in the faces of Afghan girls, and Palestinian mothers celebrate the deaths of their children who chose to be homicide bombers to kill Jews. We watched a man wearing the uniform of the United States Army walk into a Fort Hood processing center and kill 13 soldiers and an unborn child. We know this enemy plans even greater sorrows for us and for free men and women everywhere.
In every one of these cases and in hundreds of others too numerous to list, the attackers have operated in the name of their Islamic faith. If they were not Muslims, the 19 hijackers on 9/11 would not have been on the planes.
Yet our president and his media allies continue to deny this truth, while they continually lecture us on what they call on our lack of tolerance. I don’t think the country is buying it. In fact, I think America is running out of patience with a president who shows real passion only when he defends Muslim rights.
Imam Feisal’s Friend: “9/11 An Inside Job” - The New York Post reports today that a close associate of Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, who is pushing the Ground Zero mosque, believes that 9/11 was “an inside job.” In 1997, Rauf founded the American Society for Muslim Advancement (ASMA). ASMA and the Cordoba Initiative (another of Rauf’s organizations) are spearheading the drive to raise $100 million for the proposed 13-story Ground Zero mosque.
Faiz Khan was one of the founding board members of the ASMA Faiz Khan. Khan has preached at least twice to the Islamists who currently meet at the abandoned Burlington Coat Factory building, where Rauf plans his mosque. Why is Rauf’s relationship with Khan significant? Khan is a board member of Muslims for 9/11 Truth and a founder of the Muslim-Jewish-Christian Alliance for 9/11 Truth.
On the latter’s website, Khan wrote, “The prime factor for the success of the criminal mission known as 9/11 did not come from the quarter known as ‘militant Islam,’ although the phenomenon known as ‘militant Islamic networks’ may have played a partial role, or even a less than partial role -- perhaps the role of patsy and scapegoat.” So, if Islamists didn’t attack us who did?
In 2006, Khan insisted that the 9/11 hijackers were working for American business interests, and he said that Citicorp and Procter & Gamble were reaping billions from the heroine trade. When the New York Post contacted Khan about his remarks, he did not back down, saying, “I am certain of a few things. . . The towers and WTC 7 could not have collapsed without controlled demolition place[d] from the inside.”
So the “moderate” Imam Rauf is partnering with a man who believes America attacked itself on 9/11. Is this the type of insanity that will be taught at the mosque at Ground Zero in the name of “tolerance”? ------------- Gary Bauer is is a conservative family values advocate and serves as president of American Values and chairman of the Campaign for Working Families.
