Friday, October 31, 2008Obama Boots Reporters from Plane A great cartoon from our own William Warren!Fox News: Reporters from three newspapers that endorsed John McCain have been told that they can't travel aboard Barack Obama's plane in the final days leading before Election Day. Journalists from three major newspapers that endorsed John McCain -- the Washington Times, the New York Post and the Dallas Morning News -- have been booted from Barack Obama's campaign plane for the final leg of the presidential race. The Washington Times reported Friday that it was notified of the Obama campaign's decision Thursday evening -- even though the paper has covered Obama from the start. Executive Editor John Solomon told FOXNews.com that the Obama campaign said it didn't have enough seats on the plane, but "I don't think the explanation makes sense to us." "We've been traveling since 2007 with him. ... We're a relevant newspaper -- every day we break news, . . . ... it sort of feels unfair." He said the newspaper protested but was turned down again by the campaign. "I can only hope that the candidate who describes himself as wanting to unite the nation doesn't have some sort of litmus test for who he decides gets to cover the campaign," Solomon said, noting that the Obama campaign's decision came just two days after the paper endorsed McCain. According to the The Drudge Report, the three newspapers' reporters were told to find alternative transportation by Sunday so that the plane could accommodate "network bigwigs" and reporters from two black magazines, Essence and Jet. Also joining up with the Obama campaign are the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times. According to the campaign, the decision to shuffle around reporters was made because they did not want to add a second plane. Melin Porter suffered a stroke and died in January 2007, but voting records indicate he cast a ballot in the March 4 Democratic primary held this year.An elections official removed Melvin Porter’s name from the rolls Monday, the same day Erma Porter came to the elections office, and said workers would be alerted by the county’s computer system if anyone tried to use Melvin Porter’s name to vote early or on Election Day. But questions remain about more than 6,000 other registered voters whose personal information — names and dates of birth — matches that found in federal listings of deceased people. Texas Watchdog identified the records by reviewing the Social Security Administration’s death records alongside the Dallas County voter rolls. Erma Porter worries that such flaws in the system make it easier for someone to commit voter fraud. “I just can’t believe it. Robin Anderson and Patty Beth Wallace of Grand Rapids, MI have been charged after an investigation was launched by the City of Grand Rapids Clerk. Anderson is charged with three counts of forgery, including registering his dead brother in one instance. Wallace has been charged with four counts of forgery.The two have admitted to the forgeries, claiming they were working to meet a deadline set by the community voter registration group Community For Voters Project. The group, which boasts of having registered over 300,000 African American and Latino voters in ten states, has been the center of voter fraud controversy in the past, including an incident this past summer in Milwaukee, WI. Bill Ayers's Scary Plans for Public Schools by Phyllis Schlafly: Will William Ayers be Secretary of Education in a Barack Obama Administration? All parents should ponder that possibility before making their choice for President on November 4. After all, Ayers is a friend of Obama, and Professor Ayers's expertise is training teachers and developing public school curriculum. That's been his mission since he gave up planting bombs in government buildings (including the U.S. Capitol and the Pentagon) and assaulting police officers. . . .From his prestigious and safe university position, Ayers has been teaching teachers and students in rebellion against American capitalism and what he calls "imperialism" and "oppression." The code words for the Ayers curriculum are "social justice," a "transformative" vision, "critical pedagogy," "liberation," "capitalist injustices," "critical race theory," "queer theory," and of course multiculturalism and feminism. That language is typical in the readings that Ayers assigns in his university courses. He admits he is a "communist street fighter" who has been influenced by Karl Marx, as well as Che, Ho and Malcolm X. Ayers speaks openly of his desire to use America's public school classrooms to train a generation of revolutionaries who will overturn the U.S. social and economic regime. He teaches that America is oppressive and unjust, socialism is the solution, and wealth and resources should be redistributed. In Ayers's course called "On Urban Education," he calls for a "distribution of material and human resources." His left-wing notions would be very compatible with those of Barack Obama, who publicly told Joe the Plumber that we should "spread the wealth." Ayers's books are among the most widely used in America's education schools. Ayers even uses science and math courses as part of his "transformative" political strategy to teach that the American economic system is unjust. Ayers is an endorser of a book called "Queering Elementary Education" by William J. Letts IV and James T. Sears, a collection of essays to teach adults and children to "think queerly." The blurb on the cover quotes Ayers as saying this is "a book for all teachers . . . and, yes, it has an agenda." Unfortunately, Ayers's far-out education theories are already having an effect in education schools. One after another, teachers colleges are using their courses to promote socialist notions of wealth distribution, "social justice," diversity and environmentalism, and to punish students who resist this indoctrination by giving them low grades or even denying them graduation. The Department of Education lists 15 high schools whose mission statements declare that their curricula center on "social justice." Propaganda about Obama is already finding favor with textbook publishers. The McDougal Littell 8th-grade advanced-English literature book (copyright 2008, Houghton Mifflin Co.) has 15 pages featuring Barack Obama and his "life of service." Most of Ayers's socialist propaganda is financed with taxpayers' money at state universities and teachers colleges. Some of the schools that have adopted Ayers-style pedagogy have received grants from ACORN or from Bill Gates's charitable foundation. You might assume that Ayers's political ideas would put him on the outer fringe of the left-wing education establishment. However, his peers recently elected him to serve as vice president for curriculum in the American Education Research Association, the largest organization of education school professors and researchers. Is an appointment to the U.S. Department of Education his next career advancement? Is Ayers's transformative public school curriculum the kind of "change" Obama will bring us? Thanks! Joe And The Homeless by Gary Bauer: Two news stories out of Ohio yesterday provide us with a telling glimpse into the leftwing mindset of America’s elites. A federal judge (a Clinton appointee) ruled that homeless people can list their “park bench” as a valid “home” for the purposes of voting. Now, obviously, this ruling makes voter fraud much more likely. But the Left, knowing it can exploit these “voters,” will make grand idealistic arguments that a liberal federal judge will buy into regarding the “rights” of the homeless. And there are widespread reports of street people being given alcohol and money in exchange for voting for Obama.Contrast this with how Ohio government officials have treated another citizen – Joe Wurzelbacher, the now famous plumber. Joe pays taxes. His taxes go, in part, to help the homeless. He lives in a home. He is a free citizen of these great United States. He is an informed voter. He responsibly exercised his right of free speech to tell a candidate for public office that if he raised taxes, it would hurt people like Joe, who is working very hard to buy his own small business. As of today, at least three Ohio government employees (including a police clerk!) have admitted to using government computers and resources to find information on Joe to smear him in the public square. The contrast could scarcely be more stark. The Left exploits the homeless for its own political gain and endangers the integrity of our elections, while it declares war on the shop keeper, the plumber, the entrepreneur and the businessman. We have an organization like ACORN running around the country in a blatant attempt to steal an election. And, of course, we have the media, whose blatant bias for Barack Obama throws the integrity of the whole profession into question.There is another problem which has been seen over and over again with the Democrats, and it has now shown up in a legislative race in Ohio. That problem is the double standard that the media and Democrats hold Republicans too. How dare anyone question Barack Obama's associations. Josh Mandel and his Democrat opponent Bob Belovich, nothing is out of bounds for the Democrats, including attacking Mandel's service in Iraq and his religion. . . . A New Welfare State Under Obama by Ken Blackwell: Thanks to Joe the Plumber, we now know for sure that Barack Obama wants to "spread the wealth around." But the Democratic candidate still hasn't come clean on just how much of a European-style socialist he is. Look at the "tax cut" he says he'll give to 95% of Americans. In fact, this is simply a government check he'd hand out - including to millions who don't pay income taxes, since each year 38% of Americans already get a full refund. In other words, his "rebate" is a welfare plan, plain and simple.When called on this, Obama's answer is that those 38% still pay payroll taxes, so he's rebating part of those payments. But that actually puts him deeper into the socialist hole. Here's why. Payroll taxes go to fund Social Security and Medicare - the main US social-insurance programs. The taxes are dedicated because these are insurance programs - you're paying so that you'll be covered when you hit retirement age. But, down the line, these programs face a financial crisis even worse than the housing mess that we're in now. They need literally trillions more dollars (above what they're set to take in) to meet their current obligations. By federal law, absent those new funds, every retiree will automatically have his or her benefits cut. If Obama means to rebate those payroll taxes from the Social Security/Medicare funds, he's accelerating the bankruptcy of those programs. If not, he's still transferring money from people who pay income taxes to those who don't. There's more: Either way, Obama is effectively changing these cores of American retirement from social insurance programs to European-style social welfare programs: Instead of each of us paying into the fund, and later collecting on that basis, some people will be paying in less to collect the same benefit. That's a flat-out repudiation of President Franklin Roosevelt's vision in founding Social Security, and of the promise that's always underlain Medicare. Neither was ever supposed to become a charity program - but Obama's pointing down just that road. The Obama double bind is either bankrupt our nation's retirement programs or put the nation on the path to European-style socialism. Which is it? No wonder Obama is so popular is Europe: The Europeans finally found an American who thinks like they do. (And they won't mind in the least when we start suffering the sky-high unemployment and lack of economic growth that socialism has given them.) Of course, Obama knows that the term "socialist" would kill his plan, so he calls it a "refund" instead. But there's no way it's not socialist; he's either: • Giving a "refund" on taxes people never paid to start with, • Moving us drastically closer to the day Social Security and Medicare go bankrupt, requiring a massive bailout by other sources of taxation, • Or outright turning the core federal retirement funds into welfare programs. So, which is it? Of course, the mainstream media won't force him to answer that question - they're shamelessly in the tank for him. So it's up to voters to force Obama to answer - to explain how his tax plan is (somehow) neither socialism nor a deadly blow to Social Security and Medicare. The deficit now runs hundreds of billions of dollars per year. Yet Obama proposes almost $1 trillion of new spending - and promises to also give "rebates" to the 38% of us who pay no income tax.
